  • "Our first visit to North Wales and this accommodation and location is perfect."

The cottage adjoins the owners part of the building and is in a very private position a short 10 minute walk away from the lovely town of Dolgellau which has plenty of individual shops and businesses. The cottage is arranged with the very large lounge positioned on the ground floor, everything else is on the first floor, accessed via a set of spiral stairs. The stairs may be unsuitable for some potential visitors but we had no issues with them at all. All bedrooms were of a very good size, the kitchen and bathroom were were contemporary in style and more than adequate for a holiday cottage. The outside space is stunning! The owners have created a beautiful garden with lots of visiting wildlife, all wrapped around the mesmeric river which adjoins the property. Roland, the owner was extremely helpful in providing us with a warm welcome, all the mandatory H&S advice, the interesting history of the original buildings on the site plus lots of other information on places to visit and eat. We can thoroughly recommend this property and owners for a superb holiday or weekend break.

A beautiful garden with lots of wildlife. A great base for lots of days out. Plenty of guides and info in the cottage to plan activities. Guest review book was useful for recommendations too. Very clean and given little extras which was a lovely touch. Kitchen area was a little small to sit for 6 of us around the table but plenty of space in lounge table to sit and eat, you would just have to get used to spiral staircase / take food downstairs. This did not impact our overall view of the cottage though. Thank you for a lovely stay.

The location to Dolgellau was a short 6 or 7 minute walk. The accommodation was really tidy with a beautiful garden with a river flowing past the bottom, there is an area near the river to use a disposable bbq with all utensils supplied. You are adjoining the owners house which we found to be no problem, the owner Roland was a great source of information on all the local places and was available if you had any problems. All in all a superb break and we will return as there is so much to do in the area including great mountain bike trails, the property has truly secure bike storage with is hard to find. Thanks for a great holiday!

The lawns reach down to a superb river setting where there is a barbecue and picnic table and seating if so desired. The two of us enjoyed our stay there but feel that the cottage although advertised as taking six guests would not accommodate six quite as easily. However we would certainly consider another stay there.

Comfortable beds. The spiral staircase was a bit of a problem especially if you want to take a hot drink down to watch tv. The town was lovely, lots of nice places to eat and only a few minutes walk from the cottage, however beware it is a busy road and part of it with no pavement or street lights. We had a lovely time.

  • "The cottage was furnished throughout to a very high standard."

It was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The landscaped gardens, which extend down to the banks of the river Wnion, are an absolute delight and have clearly been created by a modern Capability Brown. There are many little trails between the shrubbery, where one is often surprised to find a strategically placed bench with another lovely view of the river. Roland, the owner of Felin Ship, proved himself to be very knowledgable about the many walks and places of interest in Snowdonia and was a real mine of information: as well as being always on hand (or easy to contact) if needed, but always very much in the background. I can say without hesitation that there is not a finer place of this type in the whole of Wales!

A professional and considerate owner, nice touches like a bottle of wine and fresh milk for making tea or coffee on arrival (sachets supplied.). The owner has provided excellent information about the local area and always willing to give further advice to make your visit successful. Useful additional touches include hand cleaner, washing up liquid etc. Cottage does have a spiral staircase and so care is needed if you have young or mature adults in your party. The owner also explains river safety upon arrival which is especially important for younger children. The Riverside location is enhanced by carefully maintained mature gardens. A lovely setting. Dolgellau is a small town with adequate facilities and is perfectly located to explore Snowdonia or Mid Wales. Excellent walking opportunities on your doorstep. Overall a splendid property in a great location, managed professionally by its owner. North Wales has much to offer and you will always want to go back.

  • "We primarily chose this cottage because of the photos of the gardens, and the spectacular setting next to the river, and we were not disappointed."

We were lucky to have good weather and we were able to make use of the table and chairs provided in the garden, watching the wildlife whilst the sun set. The cottage itself is nice, the furniture is of excellent quality and the bed linen and towels are so soft. The kitchen is functional and has all the self-catering facilities you would need (including a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge on arrival – thank you Roland), however, if the cottage is at full capacity (it sleeps 6) you may struggle to fit everyone around the table in the kitchen so would need to use the table located in the living area, which would mean carrying food down the slightly tricky spiral staircase. As there was only two of us we used the table provided in the kitchen which was fine for us. Roland the owner is very knowledgeable and friendly, and we found the various maps, leaflets and books available in the cottage very useful – we even completed a couple of the walks from the local walking books provided. Overall, we enjoyed our stay immensely, and we would highly recommend the cottage for anyone who wants a tranquil place to stay, but with plenty of things to see and do right on their doorstep.

Furnishings and fittings are top quality and most comfortable. There are plenty of walks close by without having to use a car and plenty more if you do. The local countryside is stunning both inland and coastal. Dolgellau has nice shops, restaurants and pubs plus the Euoro Spar is excellent for quality foodstuffs. All in all a perfect choice should you wish to explore Snowdonia.

  • "My wife and I recently spent a very enjoyable week at Felin Ship."

The place was very clean and very well equipped, and everything worked, which made a pleasant change. The extensive gardens leading down to the crystal clear river were a delight and wonderfully maintained. We are a mature couple, but we did not find the spiral staircase to be a problem. Although it was not pointed out to us, we found the outside stone steps on the end of the property to be very useful when moving large or awkward items up to, or down from, the bedrooms or the kitchen. The huge secure storeroom alongside the property was very useful for me to store my bike, and could be equally useful for storing other bulky items that were best stored outside the living area. The small kitchen diner was fine for the two of us but as there are three double bedrooms, the kitchen might be a bit crowded if all the beds were occupied. There is plenty of car parking space and a large turning area, but do watch the mirrors when driving out of the property as the exit is on a blind corner.

The cottage was set in beautiful landscaped gardens, with a river running at the bottom making it an idyllic and tranquil retreat, just what we needed. The cottage itself was very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. It was beautifully decorated, and everything was to a very high standard; the beds were comfortable, the bedding itself was just like snuggling into cotton wool, and I’ve never felt such soft towels as what Roland’s are, not even new ones, would love to know his secret. Dolgellau itself is a very pretty town, with cobbled streets lined with beautiful little cottages and all the amenities you need, all within easy walking distance from rhe cottage. • "The property's main plus feature is the well kept garden and its beautiful aspect onto the river."

It is really close to the town yet is peaceful and secluded and very very relaxing. The cows and sheep, herons, egret and kingfisher seen enjoying the riverside were especially lovely. Roland's thorough introduction clearly outlines how he expects you to treat the house and garden which is not difficult. Once he knew what activities we were hoping to do he supplied excellent resources which really helped us make the most of the area. The lovely weather also helped:) The town is quirky and has super cafes to enjoy and its proximity to Cader Idris and the beautiful Mawdach Estury means that you do not need to waste time in the car to get the best of coast and mountain in the area. The cottage and especially the kitchen was very clean and well supplied but was a little tight for the 2 days there were 6 adults there. The kitchens position upstairs means carrying food down the spiral stairs or outside steps to eat in the garden was too difficult. The beds were really comfortable and we all slept well. I would definitely recommend this cottage and garden and hope to return at some point in the future.

Just on the edge of Dolgellau, but 5 minutes from a supermarket and 10 minutes from the centre of town. The cottage also met our requirements, particularly my sons' needs for wifi, somewhere safe to store their mountain bikes, a decent shower, and somewhere to get a good night's sleep. I had a slight concern that the owner lives next door, and was worried him intruding on our holiday, or our intruding on him when we used the shared garden. I needn't have worried. After an initial tour of the property Roland left us to enjoy the holiday, but was available if we needed any help. He made two specific suggestions about places to visit and eat, both of which turned out to be excellent. The house itself was comfortable if you wanted to sit indoors. There were also plenty of films available on the tv to watch on the occasional rainy day that Wales sometimes has. On sunny days, the garden was a delight to sit in, with it's lawn running down to the river. Finally, would I stay there again. Most emphatically yes. It was one of the best cottages we have stayed in

  • "Nice few days at Felin Ship but there are a couple of things that prevent me from giving it 5 stars."

Upon arrival it is very much made clear that you are staying in the house of the owner, and with a strict regimented tour of the grounds and cottage one is left feeling somewhat intimidated and a feeling of intrusion. One is reminded of this when reading the welcome book with rules and regulations and seeing the numerous printed labels. The guest accomodation lacks homely feel and the sitting room, which is linked to the owners cottage by a internal door, combined with the office blinds and abundance of leaflets makes the space feel more like a doctors surgery waiting room than a place to relax. It is decorated however to a good standard and holds good furniture, however as of december 2017 the bedrooms didnt have any kind of heating which was countered by a lovely tog 3000 duvet which was if anything too warm but any uncovered body part felt the cold of the night. Taller people may struggle in bed as they have foot plates on which calls for some contorsion of the legs. Location 5/5 Cottage 3/5 Ground 5/5 Owner hospitality 2/5 It is with sad regret but the owners nature did let it somewhat leaving the group feel uncomfortable, though reading other more positive reviews, this may well be just our group. I hope you have a better experience. NOT a place for muddy mountain bikers!!
