  • “What a superb cottage!”

Well equipped, comfortable, warm and a wonderful view. We loved being right on the harbour and watching the fishing boats. The folk in Stonehaven were very friendly and good humoured in spite of relatively tight Covid restrictions.

Well equipped, comfortable, warm and a wonderful view. We loved being right on the harbour and watching the fishing boats. The folk in Stonehaven were very friendly and good humoured in spite of relatively tight Covid restrictions. The seafood bothy on the quayside was excellent in quality and value for money. Even though we couldn’t drink our beer inside the Marine hotel, we enjoyed it outside, while watching the world go by. Definitely looking forward to booking again.

The property

Perched right on the harbour, on a quaint, cobbled street in Stonehaven home to the famous New Years Eve Fireballs ceremony, with the sandy beach just paces away, is The Haven at 12 Shorehead.

This self-contained ground-floor apartment built around 1730, welcomes couples to a lovely part of Scotland, with plenty to see and do close by and further afield.

On entrance is a lovely porch area, where you can catch glimpses of the bustling harbour, then make your way to the sitting room at the front to enjoy more of the views, or tune into the Freesat TV and catch up on some of your favourite shows.

This former fisherman's cottage has low ceilings, yet a modern feel inside, just what you need to relax and unwind of an evening, on return from a long walk or day at the beach.

You can do some home-cooking in the kitchen and get together around the dining table for a romantic night in.

This apartment also has a spacious, super king-size bed and a bathroom offering an electric shower over the bath.

To the outside is a lovely sitting area, from which you can watch the busy working harbour as the sail boats glide in and out, and sip a glass of your favourite tipple on a sun-filled afternoon.

Right on the doorstep are some delightful seaside amenities including a tea room and variety of restaurants, as well as the Tolbooth Museum, showcasing a number of artefacts associated with the town's heritage.

Stonehaven also plays host to one of four outdoor swimming pools left in Scotland, and you can also walk right from the property up to the dramatic ruins of Dunnottar Castle, which are perched upon a rocky headland.

Just south of the town is the RSPB Fowlsheugh Reserve, which is packed with breeding seabird in the spring and summer, a birdwatcher's paradise.

This is a wonderful holiday destination to bring your loved one for a revitalising break at The Haven.

About the location

STONEHAVEN

Aberdeen 15 miles.

Formerly the county town of Kincardineshire, Stonehaven is a resort town, set in a sheltered position where the Carron Water and the Cowie Water empty into the North Sea. This attractive seaside resort, with heated open-air Olympic size swimming pool and 18 hole golf course, has a picturesque and sheltered harbour, busy with sailing yachts. The Tolbooth Museum is a notable building situated on the quayside, and the great fortress of Dunnottar Castle (whose origins date from the 11th Century) is situated on the sheer 160 foot cliff tops to the south of the town. Close at hand, Fowlsheugh RSPB Seabird Colony is home to the largest seabird colony in mainland Britain, and is well worth a visit. Stonehaven also boasts a fine selection of shops, hotels and restaurants to suit all tastes, as well as offering great opportunities to hike, cycle, walk, ride or even ski! With the amenities of Aberdeen within an easy drive, this is a great location for exploring all that this lovely part of Scotland has to offer.
