  • "Great base for exploring surrounding area."

Comfortable for the two of us (and dog), but do agree with other comments that the living space would be snug if 4/5 people came. However bedrooms were spacious. House had everything you'd need for a week or so but personally found a few minor issues... WiFi was very hit and miss (this could be weather related as VERY windy), not really an issue for a holiday but was unable to work. Taller people might struggle in the shower as limited height, I was ok (5'4") but my dad struggled. Cleaner was unaware of our booking, so cleaning wasn't completed when we arrived. She was so apologetic when she came later in the week and her details were in the guest book had we needed them (house was clean, I.e changed beds, rubbish removed. Just had items out drying and cleaning products about so didn't feel the need to contact). Overall, we had a good stay :)

  • "It would be useful to have a floor plan so you can see what you’re getting, in this case the bedrooms were ample but the living space pretty small for 4."

The place was very clean except for the air quality, which was very poor due to the oil fired boiler. A constant smell of oil, burnt and fresh, accompanied every move in and out of the place, and the frequent reports and loud rumbles early in the morning were frustrating. It made the pretty front garden unusable.

  • "Not good value for money."

Arrived to a pile of rubbish in the garden and a used poo bag by the gate . Rubbish very kindly removed by a neighbour. No bin provided. Contact numbers provided on my paperwork were useless, no answering machine on landline and mobile number was a lady who was an ex cleaner who told me bins had been requested on numerous occasions to no avail. No welcome pack, the cleaning was what I would call "a lick and a promise" . A stained towel was left out for use and previous visitors food was left in the cupboard. Bedding was clean but well worn and "bobbly". The hoover was jammed full of muck which I couldn't fully remove. There was only one smoke detector in the property and no heat sensor, not sure if this meets current safety standards Did eventually speak to the owner and £50 was reimbursed but she seemed to think this mess was an acceptable situation for visitors to arrive too. The lady and her husband who removed the bags of rubbish and bottles were very kind and went out of there way for me, I can't praise them enough. The much needed holiday was not ruined but , spoilt for me. I was down to visit friends and attend a hospital appointments so, the added stress was far from welcome. All in all no real effort or thought gone into making this a welcoming place, will definitely not go back. I tried to contact Sykes on the Monday by email and kept being told my booking reference was incorrect. I too have cleaned a holiday let and the one I worked in had to be cleaned top to bottom and all basic essentials such as milk and tea, coffee, and sugar were left along with cake and biscuits. All bedding and towels had to be perfect or they were not used.

  • "My wife and I arrived at the cottage to find no heating and no hot water, there was no oil in the tank."

We had to spend the night in a Travelodge. When we arrived the next day we had to go into Elgin to buys new electric kettle as the one in the cottage was rusted, we also bought a new toaster. The house is needing a good deep clean and redecoration. The second night the internet broke down which eventually got repaired. There were lot of wires and cables lying around, not good for any visiting children. My wife and I would like recompensed for our lost day. We would not recommend this cottage to anyone. All other Sykes cottages we have been in were excellent.

  • "Cottage was OK and size was as described."

When the cottage was booked no one asked exactly how many people were going but as it has room for 5 people i would have expected all the beds made ready not just one double, how did you know the couple would be partners not just friends. This was sorted but had to wait up until 11 o’clock on our first night. The shower is not fit for purpose as more water goes on the floor than in the shower. Also the kitchen is like a walk in fridge it is so cold.

  • "A lovely base to tour from but the cottage certainly needs a good clean up, The mirrors, tv and microwave looked like they had been washed with a dirty cloth, the spills down the fronts of the bins, oven and fridge."

The cushions on couch all squeeched the hoover stood in living room half full and dirty I hoovered up on arriving to remove dog hairs and the hoover smelt. On taking showers the floor got wet shower curtain inadequate. Had the cottage left a good impression on us we would definitely have booked again

  • "The description of this cottage must have been written by an estate agent, very ott !"

The kitchen is horrendous, so tiny I may as well have been in a Touring Caravan. Nowhere to put your groceries, I had to keep them in the bedroom. The dining table is also tiny, no idea how a family would cope. The bedroom had a stale smell, but copious carpet freshener had been used to cover it up which made me sneeze for the first few days. The parking is poor, I had to park two streets away to get a space, Burghead is busy. The best thing about it was just five minutes walk to the beach. Cannot believe the price charged for this property in Summer !

I’m sorry you felt that the description of the cottage was inaccurate. We have never stated that the kitchen was anything but small but this being said I regularly feed 6 of us from there when we are up. We have a cupboard clear for groceries above the sink for groceries so am not sure why you felt it necessary to keep them in the bedroom. There is also space in the shed where the fridge freezer and tumble dryer are. The dining room table is small but seats 4 as it’s designed to do and unfortunately it’s impossible to fit a huge table in that room. I will check with the housekeeper regarding the stale smell in the bedroom, don’t believe we actually use carpet freshener though! Parking is not a problem it is suggested that you park on the street outside of the kitchen window, this street is only ever busy on a Sunday morning with church goers. Property Owner

Burghead is a great wee place, lots of interesting things to do there and nearby. Dolphins pop up just off the headland regularly! The only drawback from point of view of driving an electric car is that there isn't an EV charger in Burghead. But there are several in Elgin...

The interior of the cottage includes a cosy sitting room with a small dining area, as well as a compact but well-equipped kitchen.

There are two comfortable bedrooms both with TVs, a ground floor double, and a first floor family room with a double and single bed.

The ground floor family bathroom completes your well-equipped seaside cottage. Outside, there is a lawned garden and a lovely little seating area which is a real sun trap, an ideal spot for having a barbecue.

Burghead has an excellent beach and harbour with a good selection of local amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants, all within walking distance.

The area is a haven for wildlife lovers with an abundance of bird life and Burghead Bay being the ideal place to spend an afternoon seal, dolphin and whale spotting.

Although this area has miles of sandy beaches and loads of wildlife you may wish to venture inland and pick up the famous Malt Whisky Trail with over 50 distilleries within easy reach.

The popular coastal villages of Lossiemouth and Findhorn can be easily reached, and are well worth a visit, with both offering excellent facilities and activities.

Elgin, just over eight miles away, is Scotland’s smallest city and is situated on the banks of the River Lossie in an Area of Outstanding Beauty and is home to many visitor attractions including its famous 13th century cathedral.

About the location

BURGHEAD

Lossiemouth 8.5 miles; Elgin 8.5 miles; Findhorn 9 miles.

Burghead is a peaceful coastal village on the shores of the Moray Firth in the north east Scotland, eight miles from Elgin. The village has a lot to offer with a good selection of shops, pubs and eating places as well as having an excellent beach, far-reaching views, an abundance of flora, fauna and bird life. Burghead Bay is rich in wildlife with whales, dolphins, porpoises and seals regularly visiting, and if you are lucky you may even see the odd rare sighting of a Minki Whale. Today, Burghead is dominated by the huge maltings building where the grain used in the production of whisky is prepared, so some say that this is the real start of the famous Whisky Trail, which winds its way through the very heart of Moray.
