“Hot tub with stunning views”Lucky to drop on this little gem. Although we've seen a great deal of Scotland and the islands, we had never been to Aberdeen area. Not disappointed albeit you need to enjoy driving to enhance the experience. The roads can be a little daunting in places and so can the weather!! The lodge had everything the two of us needed. We did have a problem with the tv but Archie willingly sorted this out for us. My wife just loved sitting in the hot tub - irrespective of the weather enjoying the views ...Lucky to drop on this little gem. The roads can be a little daunting in places and so can the weather!! The lodge had everything the two of us needed. We did have a problem with the tv but Archie willingly sorted this out for us. My wife just loved sitting in the hot tub - irrespective of the weather enjoying the views and I don't mean me !! The surrounding countryside is breathtaking. Enjoy star gazing in the darkness we don't have in towns and cities. Ballater has a choice for food and drink. Our normal holidays includes lots of eating out but this time we were so contented to enjoy the quiet and joy of being lost in the highlands we self catered enjoying local fish and meats. Curl up with a roaring log fire with a wee dram and just relax. Wonderful!!!

About the location
Braemar 17 miles; Grantown-on-Spey 38.5 miles; Aberdeen 40 miles.
Situated on the banks of the River Dee, the delightful village of Ballater is a centre for tourism and has much to offer visitors to the area, particularly because of its location in the Cairngorms National Park and its close proximity to Balmoral Castle. This attractive village has a lovely neat village green, specialist shops, charming tea rooms and superior granite cottages, all adding to its genteel ambience. The River Dee flows through Ballater and is well renowned for its salmon fishing during the fishing season. Royal Deeside is so-called because of its connection to the Royal Family, who have frequently visited the town since the time of Queen Victoria. There is excellent walking all around the area, as well as outdoor activities such as cycling, golf, skiing or wildlife excursions. The popular centres of Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore are within easy reach, as is the city of Aberdeen.
Note: Some renovation work, mainly internal, may be in progress in the neighbouring building, Gairnshiel Lodge for the foreseeable future. Gairnshiel Lodge is contained in separate grounds and has separate access from the cottage. During the renovations there are three metal storage containers in Gairnshiel Lodge Garden which sit 30 yards away from Morven Cottage and 60 yards from Corndavon Cottage.
