The small Aberdeenshire village of Fettercairn is situated an hour from Aberdeen by car and is also close to the Cairngorms National Park. Fettercairn has a shop, café and hotel, as well as a 16th century cross in the village square and a memorial archway that was erected in 1864 to commemorate the visit of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. On the edge of the village is Fettercairn Distillery, and only four miles away is the market town of Laurencekirk, which has a range of amenities including supermarkets, butchers, pubs, bakers and a Post Office. Only twelve miles away is the wonderful St Cyrus three mile long beach, or take a visit to the centre commemorating noted writer Lewis Grassic Gibbon, who set many of his books in this area. Also within reach is the Cairngorms National Park, which has something for everyone with a number of activities and attractions. Fettercairn is an ideal Aberdeenshire base.
