  • "We were extremely happy with the accommodation overall."

It would be nice to actually have larger bath towels. We did go out and buy kitchen weighing scales as we do all our cooking from scratch.

Thankyou for he positive feedback and we are glad that you were extremely happy with Strathmill House. We did have a set of red digital kitchen scales at the Housed but these seem to have disappeared and will be replaced shortly. Property Owner

  • "The property was very spacious, clean and in a quiet location."

It’s in an ideal spot for visiting surrounding areas. We had a lovely week and we all felt very relaxed. We were a party of seven and the house was ideal size for us. There are two reception rooms with two large sofas in each, which was great, allowing us privacy if we wanted it. Overall it we had a fantastic week away and would highly recommend this property.

Diane, Thankyou for a lovely review, and we are really pleased you had a lovely week and found Strathmill House suited everyone. Also great that you used Strathmill as a base to explore the area as there is lots to do close to the House. Kind Regards Keith and Lindsay Property Owner

Derek, Thankyou for the feedback and recommendation, it's much appreciated. Glad you found the directions easy to follow, as you know Strathmill is within easy walking distance of the centre of Keith but feels like it is in remote countryside. Kind Regards Keith and Lindsay. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely week in N East Scotland, using Strathmill House as our base for an energetic week of orienteering."

One of our group enjoyed using the bath, but the others all preferred the shower, which had a constant supply of hot water. We made good use of both lounges - one for reading and relaxing and the other for sport-watching on the TV! The kitchen was also very well-equipped for cooking all our evening meals.

Hi Jonathan, Thankyou for spending some time at Strathmill and we are glad you enjoyed it. Keith is a central location to explore the North East and there always seems to be something going on, although I have to confess I hadn't realised what a big deal orienteering was in the area. I imagine that it's only modesty that stopped you saying how well you done in the event? Hope to see you back next year. Best Wishes Keith and Lindsay Property Owner

  • "Hi - good break at strathmill - suggest more detail as only 2 wcs ."

.upstairs arrangement not good for anyone with mobility issues and one tv ..given price charged and compared to other holiday houses .. slightly over priced - but the family had a good week and welcome pack much appreciated - tk you

Hi Carol, The title of your review suggests that you had a good break but more details should be included in the Sykes listing. I was concerned when I read this and therefore re-read the listing. I found that the items you mentioned are addressed on the front page of the listing. You are correct in saying that there is only one 55” Smart TV at Strathmill, this allows the second reception room for reading, cards, chatting etc and overall this seems to have met with approval. I am pleased that you and the family enjoyed your time at Strathmill House. Property Owner

  • "Strathmill House is a Fantastic Accomodation to stay in Keith."

I had rent for 2 weeks. The house is biggest and the forniture and the facilityes are at the top. The owners were very friendly and the welcome pack of biscuits and fruit was much appreciated. The place where the house is located is very quiet and is perfect for spending time relaxing. The kitchen is well equipped, the 5 bedrooms are perfect and the beds are really comfortable. The composition of the house is reminiscent of the old days and that is what makes it truly unique and loving. if you plan to spend time in the Keith area this home is the place to best enjoy your stay.

Thankyou for your kind words and deciding to stay at Strathmill House. We have tried to get the balance between the traditional style of the house and the modern world of high speed Wi-Fi, Smart TV, HIVE heating and it seems we have got it about right which is nice to know. It would be lovely to welcome you again. Best Wishes. Property Owner

Also coat hooks to hang outdoor garments. Each door you open you just say wow. The dining room is adorable. Great big table if you are entertaining or if you are all having breakfast or dinner. Kitchen is gorgeous too. Every little detail has been thought of by owners. Lovely fresh flowers and basket of goodies on areival. All lovely thoughtful touches. I've always wanted one. It was fabulous. Great shower room too. I really don't have words to describe how beautiful this amazing house is. It is so beautiful we didn't want to leave. Everything you need is available in this beautiful house. The owners really have thought of everything. They also send you really useful info about places towns veaches etc you can visit. Ideally located Keith is 50 miles to Aberdeen and 55 mikes to Inverness or vice versa but so many gorgeous places to visit, Cullen, Portsoy, we also went to Black Isle one day as fond memories are there. Also the ground surrounding house and gardens. My Grandson named the front garden the secret garden. Back garden too, apple tree and rhubarb. We can't wait to go back to this gorgeous home. Thank you for these lovely comments, it means a lot to us. Also great you enjoyed the town and general location, there really is a lot to do in the area. Your comments about doing the dishes by hand struck a chord as we have watched the beautiful conifer tree by the river grow from being a sapling to what it is now, looks fantastic with a dusting of snow. The property

Resting next door to a Scottish whisky distillery in the small market town of Keith, Strathmill House is a traditional Victorian villa reached via a private road, offering a group of eight a homely setting from which to explore Moray.

Featuring an enclosed garden, gated driveway and spacious rooms all decorated with bright and light decor, alongside original floorboards and beautiful furnishings, Strathmill House presents a lovely dwelling, located around midway between Inverness and Aberdeen and not too far from the coast either.

Step inside this vintage residence and be met with two separate reception rooms on either side of the large hallway, both with an open fire.

The group can spread out between these beautiful well-lit rooms, with large bay windows and plush seating, the grown-ups can indulge in some wine and conversation in one while the children can watch a film on the TV in the other!

Head into the dining room and gather around for a family feast, with plenty of space for all eight guests, where you can serve up a treat that was prepared in the kitchen, reached via three steps down.

The kitchen is home to a fabulous gas Range cooker and hob, along with a fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher among the appliances.

Enjoy sunny days in the pretty enclosed garden, sitting beneath the covered seating area to enjoy a morning breakfast and coffee.

Completing the ground floor is the handy cloakroom, with a shower room and bathroom found on the first floor, you can choose how best to prepare for your day whether with a quick shower or a relaxing hot soak in the freestanding roll-top bath.

Turn right after climbing the stairs and find a single bedroom and two king-size bedrooms, one of which can be turned into a twin on request thanks to zip/link beds, whilst heading left from the stairs brings you to another single and a double room, all with excellent furniture and plenty of space.

The lovely little town of Keith is a very important stop on the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail due to being the home of Strathisla Distillery, known to be the oldest working distillery in all of Scotland dating from 1786, you can take a tour around the distillery and talk to the experts that create this popular drink, along with sampling some for yourself of course!

With being home to four distilleries in total, including the one next door (Strathmill Distillery; however this one is not open to the public), Keith town also has lots of traditional shops, two butchers, a deli, a bakery and coffee shops.

Discover a great range of pubs and restaurants to dine at in Keith, with the town centre being within walking distance; it is perfect for a special meal out with a host of different cuisines to suit all tastes.

Visit nearby Huntly to see the 12th Century remains of Huntly Castle, incorporating it into a scenic walk along the River Deveron before returning into the attractive town centre.

Enjoy an exciting sea adventure by heading up to the coast to the quaint fishing village of Cullen, which has a harbour, sandy beach, golf course, and a great fish & chip shop!

Spey Bay also is a beautiful coastal reserve with the largest shingle beach in Scotland – dolphins, otters and ospreys are regularly spotted at the mouth of the estuary of the iconic river Spey, which flows through the centre of the reserve.

From The Tugnet Ice House, you can enjoy a walk along the Speyside Way, or hop on your bikes and join the national cycle network which passes close to the reserve.

The Gordon Castle Estate is another fabulous place to visit on the way to Spey Bay in Fochabers – they have great fresh produce to buy, a coffee shop, as well as different events going on in the walled garden.

Why not book a Scottish Marine Safari, heading out on the Moray Firth to spot dolphins, harbour porpoises, grey and harbour seals, minke whales, and a host of sea birds, all while taking in the stunning coastal scenery from the fantastic converted traditional wooden fishing trawler!

Also on the Castle and Antique trail, the town of Dufftown is home to Balvenie Castle, which also has a distillery offering a great day out, or travel down to the Cairngorms National Park for some breath-taking landscapes and excellent walking country!

The small market town of Keith in the north east of Scotland is situated about mid way between the city of Aberdeen to the east and the city of Inverness to the west. Keith is truly in the heart of the Speyside Malt Whisky Country with its many distilleries and visitor centres. The friendly town boasts good facilities with a selection of shops, hotels and restaurants and also has its own 18 hole golf course and three tennis courts! Keith is home to the original Kilt School of Scotland, the only one of its kind where traditional kilt making skills can still be seen today. The area is not only rich in distilleries but also in castles and the ruins of Balvenie Castle near Dufftown are well worth a visit as the castle has hosted guests such as Mary Queen of Scots and Edward 1.
