Open plan with a wonderful bench seat at the arched window. Giving an ever changing landscape picture to watch of light and tides. Bright and airy you will struggle to find a better view from a bedroom window. Located in a lovely seaside village with a strong community spirit. Great place for a touring base whether north , south or inland. Good bus service which is clean and reliable. The Ship is the local pub with a good atmosphere. The Anchor is the local hotel with superb seafood and service. Hidden Treasure tearoom serves home made soups and local produce in the snacks. Take the bus to Gourdon the next village north. Stop at the Ship Inn in for a coffee - pint then enjoy a 3 mile coastal walk back to Johnshaven, be aware you will be stopping on a regular basis to watch the wildlife. If in Arbroath get some Arbroath Smokies from Spinks superb. Barclay Butchers in Montrose have locally sourced meats sold at their prime eating. Charlton Farm shop outside Montrose sell vegetable and fruit and have a good tearoom for snacks and lunch. Great jam ! Inland there is Castleton farm shop inland are the soft fruit place to go to with a great shop and restaurant. Further inland there are interesting drives. Outside Edzell there is Glen Esk where you can visit the Iron age forts Brown and White Caterthuns what a view you must be able to see 30 miles. Explore Royal Deeside by driving the drovers road Cairn o mount again with lovely views. If you stay at Church house you will not be stuck with things to do or see.

The cottage

Positioned within the ancient fishing village of Johnshaven on the North Sea coast, Church House rests within a beautifully, newly renovated 200 year old church in Aberdeeenshire.

Access is gained to this duplex apartment via the main staircase up to the front door, where you will arrive in the hallway before stepping through to the spacious open-plan living room.

You will be impressed by the striking, arched feature window as soon as you walk through the door, which streams in bags of natural light and showcases fabulous, floor-to-ceiling views over the rooftops towards the picturesque harbour and seafront.

Make the most of this bright, open space and unwind with your loved one in the sitting area, the sofa bed is ideal for any extra guests that might want to join you.

The breakfast bar can seat four people, while the kitchen is well-equipped for cooking up a delicious feast once you have spent the afternoon at the harbour and pebbled beach.

As you stroll through the hallway to climb the staircase, you can glimpse more of those refreshing views out to sea through a smaller, arched window.

Upstairs, you will find original exposed beams adding character to the mezzanine bedroom, which boasts a double bed and en-suite shower room.

Again, you have the giant arched window and a glass balustrade, so you can enjoy more of the pleasant outlook as you sip your morning coffee from the warmth of your duvet.

Relax on the chaise lounge with a good book and a glass of wine on return from an adventurous day exploring all that the coast has to offer and take in your delightful surroundings.

Explore the whole of the coast from this enviable location, surrounded by no less than five golf courses, with many towns and villages to discover including Montrose to the south, hosting a museum, or Stonehaven to the north dominated by the great fortress of Dunnottar Castle.

You’ll also find four of the most famous castles in Scotland on your door step; Dunnottar Castle, Glamis Castle, Edzell Castle and Brechin Castle.

Travel further afield to the bustling city of Aberdeen and enjoy its shopping, gardens and detailed history, or the walkers and adventurists will find Cairngorms National Park has a lot to offer in terms of cycling, culture and heritage and abundant wildlife.

This is a charming base to choose for your next holiday in Scotland.
