  • "Fantastic stay at White Hillocks, easy to find, very comfy and spacious."

Didn't want to leave, loved the area, fantastic welcome gift box, would definitely stay again, only criticism would be that the wood burners down draught smoke in rooms, but didn't need wood burners on as the property was more than warm enough with large radiators throughout even with the minus temperature outside. Overall it was one of our favourite places we have stayed.

Well equipped cottage in beautiful countryside. Large garden with lots of space for a four year old to run around in. The only downside would be that there was no stair gate provided.we took our own . There was also two wood burning stoves but no fire guard .As it was warm weather we didn’t use them but might be useful if there were young children staying.

Hazel is very helpful and caring made us very welcome. There were many wild animals could be seen just in the backyard, such as red squirrels, rabbits, birds, pheasants and so on. And its very easy to access Glen doll and Corrie Fee. Half way to Glen doll from the house, there is a good pub with good food. As to groceries we have used Tesco delivery which is quite reliable.

The house is fantastic and suited our needs perfectly. Our kids really enjoyed watching the sheep and lambs in the adjoining field. The owners left us to get on with it and provided a lovely little welcome pack complete with Easter eggs which were gratefully received by our 4 kids. It really felt like a home from home. We would love to come back and explore some more of glen clova and glen doll. Perhaps a winter break is on the cards. Thank you for having us and hope the calving goes well for the rest of the next few weeks.

We visited for Christmas 2022 and fell in love from the minute we walked through the door. It felt like home but not someone else's. The owners have definitely gone the extra mile with a welcome basket, treats for the dog, fresh flowers and enough fire wood to last our trip! The property was decorated beautifully for Christmas, we couldn't have asked for any more. We have even booked for next year whilst there! Counting down to going back

A few things were lacking - the Wi-Fi was non existent, though the owner did say this is a recent problem. The water pressure was also very low in the showers. The bathrooms are carpeted and the whole place needs a lick of paint. We could see past most of that but draw the line at the oven trays and cooking equipment being dirty, we had to clean it all before we used it.

We had a lovely peaceful holiday with beautiful views over to the hills above the valley. It is remote which means difficulties with internet connection but the new mast will soon be switched on and improve that. Kirriemuir is near with a good golf course. Dundee is within easy reach as well as Perth. We went to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe which was great fun but a bit of a way to go. The landlady, Hazel is kind and welcoming and left us lovely supplies to come in to. We went to the sheepdog trials at the hotel at the end of the valley. That was fascinating and made it clear how difficult sheep are to handle. We visited Rottal Steading and Garden and bought vegetables which where picked from the ground in front of us. Really fresh and lovely veg to be recommended. We loved this holiday and have returned refreshed. We would love to rebook.

Well equipped and spotlessly clean, it was the perfect base to appreciate the breathtaking panoramic scenery of Glen Clova with spectacular views from the 2 upstairs bedrooms and lounge/dining room downstairs and it is really stunning. All bedrooms are very spacious and very tastefully furnished. Hazel and Rory went above and beyond to assist us when our car broke down in the middle of the Glen and kindly towed us to the cottage. We arrived to one of the best welcome packages we have ever had at a cottage - a wooden crate filled with Scottish biscuits, cheese, crisps, snacks and even a little raspberry gin and tonics. Hazel had left fresh flowers in nearly every room. The wildlife is stunning here. Golden Eagles were nesting at the back of the house circled at dusk and we were visited by an Osprey 3 times during the week. The back and side lawns are filled with baby rabbits in the morning and evening with the occasional stoat visit. Lapwings, Oystercatchers, Black Redstarts, red legged partridges and a curlew were regular evening visitors with 170+ lapwings counted one evening. The only animal we sadly failed to catch sight of was the red squirrels. We will certainly be planning a return visit in the future!

Spacious interior, well decorated and furnished. Wifi isn't amazing but with all the outside space and nature around, it is the last thing on your mind. Could do with some extra/new pans in the kitchen, but otherwise well stocked with everything you need. Walks nearby are incredible, from gentle strolls to harder climbs. Forfar nearby was essential for fuel and food shopping - we were also able to order a delivery from Tesco which was really handy for the first evening. We came with 2 dogs, both of whom loved the gardens. Fair warning- there are LOTS of rabbits (we stayed in July), so any prey driven dogs would need to be watched in the larger garden area. Both gardens are secure unless you have a super small dog, with plenty of space to run around. The owner also left dog bowls and some treats in the welcome hamper which were appreciated! Overall we really loved our holiday and the cottage was an excellent base to explore from. Would definitely return for a longer stay, there's so much to do in the surrounding area. Thank you!

There are two enclosed gardens which are perfectly safe for your dogs to use and the views are INCREDIBLE! The house is quite remote in Glen Cova and will take you about 20mins to get to the closest town (Forfar) but we loved the remoteness of it and just enjoyed the beautiful scenery and nature around us, it was simply gorgeous. Hazel was brilliant - no ask was too much and she was extremely welcoming. Our only feedback would be that the house could do with some new cooking pans, a new cooker hood and perhaps a new oven! A little TLC on the place would go a long way, but DO NOT let that put you off because the place is so homely, really big and perfect for a trip away whether there is just two of you or a whole family!

It was absolutely perfect, so perfect we even got engaged whilst staying here! The farmhouse is situated within Glenclova. The views were incredible to wake up to everyday which added to how special this place was. You are right in the middle of the glen surrounded by hills and wildlife. There are so many stunning walks around you and if you like hiking like us Mayar and Driesh are only a 15 minute drive from the house! The farmhouse was immaculate inside and it was so much bigger than we expected. The wood burning stoves made it more cosier than it already was and there was plenty fire wood left for us to use. Even although this was a big house the central heating was great, you will never be cold in this house. The shower downstairs was great too. The farmhouse was modern and very fresh inside. Hazel had even put fresh flowers in all the vases for us which was a lovely touch. The garden is huge and is fully enclosed which was ideal for our dog. There is also a pic nic table in the garden, we had breakfast outside a few times whilst looking out over the Glen! There are even a few really nice places close by if you want to eat out sometimes. Hazel was a fantastic host. Very friendly and always more than happy to answer any questions we had. She even made a little welcome pack up for us with treats which was lovely. We are already planning our next trip back! A very special holiday we will never forget.

The house is huge but still super cost. Nice beds, good shower, big and well equipped kitchen and Hazel is a lovely host. She helped us get the fire place lighted up after the foggy autumn weather made it a bit hard to get the fire going. She also left a welcome box with goodies which is a nice touch. The cottage has an end of the road feel as the road into Glen Clova is very quiet and beautiful. Yet shops and petrol station are only 15 min drive away.

The only thing I would say, it's probably the only holiday home I've ever stayed in that didn't have a "info folder". Usually there's a book or folder with directions on how to use the heating/hot water, oven etc, info on bins, emergency numbers, nearest doctors, local interests, restaurants etc. We managed to find our way about fine without it but something like that is always handy! • "We had a fabulous Christmas week at White Hillocks."

The house is warm, spacious, extremely comfortable and very attractive. All rooms are very generously sized and the house lends itself to relaxed leisure time at home. The dining room is so comfortable it could serve as a second sitting room, especially as it too has a woodturning stove. There are 2 porches. One is useful as a boot/coat room. The other, if staying in winter, can be used as we did as an overflow pantry. We took the whole of Christmas with us and cooked Christmas dinner. There was plenty of cold storage in the back porch. There is plenty of furniture adding to the comfort level. There is ample wood for both fires. There are 2 good sized secure gardens which in good summer weather would be fabulous to sit out in as the views are stunning. The house has a welcoming feel in its own right but this was emphasised by the generous welcome gifts and gestures of the owners. Extremely helpful people who instantly respond to all queries and communication generally is excellent. River South Esk is immediately nearby and in winter the white water from Glenn Doll is impressive. Wildlife and bird life sightings are a treat. We went to see the reindeer herd near Cairngorm which, although over a 2 hour journey, was worth it. The house is in a remote situation surrounded by beautiful scenery. It sits at the beginning of Glenn Clova and immediately on a single track road which in itself is a 6 mile scenic drive to a hotel further on, and an even more wilderness further 3 mile drive (with passing places, despite the sign to the contrary) to the Glenn Doll ranger station. There is a car park here, and helpful staff to advise on walk routes and climbs from this point. The road goes no further from this point which contributes to the peaceful, wild atmosphere. Be aware, mobile signal disappears as you approach the house. You will need to drive 6 to 8 miles for supplies. Internet is satisfactory. Teenagers didn't complain.

  • "We loved the peaceful location of White Hillocks Farm House."

It was the perfect antidote to a busy life in a noisy town. (We have friends who live near Memus so we were already familiar with the glen.) I took early morning walks along the road and rarely encountered anyone except the shepherds in their vehicles who were very busy with lambing. If you love birds then you'll delight in the variety to be found in Glen Clova. Many can be observed from the living room but the best experience, of course, is outside where you can hear their calls. If you are a good walker there is much to explore within a few miles. If you are an experienced walker then the sky's the limit, almost literally as there are hills to climb which often become covered in cloud. Don't feel you need to be a mountaineer though. We took my elderly mother of 85 years up one hillside! Her mobility is good for her age although she rarely goes on a long walk. She was thrilled with the achievement and the stunning view. Transport is necessary to get further afield and the nearest shop is 7 miles away. Eating out we found the Drovers Arms at Memus to be very good. Glen Clova Hotel was overpriced and not particularly good with quite a restricted menu. Plus we had to wait ages for our lunches. (And we are very patient people.) If you want a cheaper eat then go to Tiffins in Forfar. It's located near the museum. Great for coffee and lunches. A couple of criticisms of the house: one which others have pointed out is that there are no wardrobes. We used the hooks on the back of every door and the bannister at the top of the stairs. Also the lighting in the living room is poor unless one uses the overhead light which, in our opinion, spoils the ambience of the room. Another sidelamp would be helpful. Not an issue if everyone uses devices to read but sometimes it's good to have a break from technology and read a physical book. All that being said there is so much to recommend this accommodation. We hope we can go again and experience it and the beautiful surroundings in another season.

... our welcome pack even included a wee treat for the dog ... It is situated in a fantastic area if you love birdwatching at this time of year (May/June) ... it was like having a nature reserve right on the doorstep. ....

  • "Was a thoroughly relaxing holiday."

The beds were all very comfortable and the farmhouse was warm and cosy. One small suggestion would be small bins in the bedrooms and the bathrooms. Otherwise was an excellent stay
