“Great Holiday House”
Stayed here for 2 weeks just as Scotland was opening up after Covid lockdown ...
Stayed here for 2 weeks just as Scotland was opening up after Covid lockdown. House is cosy and comfortable with everything you would expect when self catering. (We had 4 adults staying.) Courtyard had plenty of seats and seemed to be a nice sun trap. Great location in the village which has a super coffee shop, pubs, village store (which has everything you could need) and a mobile chippy which visits at dinnertime on Tuesdays. Tomintoul has a variety of local walks of varying lengths, but is also a good base for accessing Cairngorms, Moray coast and Royal Deeside.- Grasshopper507, August 2020
“Pleasant cottage in a very good geographical position, in the centre of the village of Tomintoul, adjacent to hotels, restaurants and shops.”
Easy access to lots of places of interest. The cottage is comfortable. Good WiFi. Sky TV. Spacious and well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Decor a little tired in places. The dishwasher was out of order and according to other reviews, has been for some time. The upstairs bedrooms are very sloped and my son, who is over six feet could only stand up in the middle. I would suggest that they are only suitable for children. There is an enclosed back garden but it is very uninspiring to sit in, as it has nothing in it other than a broken bench and rusty table and chairs. No greenery at all. Overall, these are minor issues. We had an enjoyable stay in Nia Roo.- Ms Currie, August 2020
“The village is very attractive, with lots of good walks nearby.”
The house is generally comfortable - good beds, big kitchen, warm fire. Dining area is cramped. The heating is inadequate, though. We did figure out how to override the timer, which was programmed to provide very little heat and we built good wood fires, but the bedrooms remained quite cold. The laundry facilities are excellent; the dishwasher was broken. And, having one decent roasting pan and one unscratched skillet would be nice. We did really enjoy our stay; these are just suggestions for improvement. Our children loved running around the lovely square, and the adventure playground down the road is excellent.- Ms Manchester, December 2019
“Lovely cottage in a quiet village Very warm beds!”
A separate toilet would have been useful with 6 people! Not quite enough room for everyone to sit comfortably in the lounge A very temperamental door knob on the downstairs bedroom; quite annoying! Extractor fan didn’t work We had a lovely holiday though! Useful additions in the kitchen would be, a slotted spoon and a balloon whisk- Mrs Mann, May 2019
“Very nice accommodation, in a good location.”
Good facilities, lovely size house and nice wood burner. Good size kitchen.- Gardiner, February 2019
“A pleasant and comfortable cottage by a village green.”
Ideal base from which to explore the beautiful NE Cairngorms, beautiful glens & Banff coastline. Some of the wildest and most remote Highland Scotland can be remarkably easily reached right from the front door (Try Glen Avon). Rgds MW- Mr Woodhill, September 2018
“Lovely comfortable cottage that had everything we needed.”
Great village location.- Ms Cuthbert, September 2018
“We had a fantastic time - the cottage was clean, tidy, and beautiful.”
Keys were simple to collect and return, and the furnishings were of a very high standard. The fridge door seal is a little loose is the only thing we could think to comment on! Absolutely smashing, if we're ever back north then we'll be booking again. Thanks so much!- Mrs Faulkner-jones, August 2018
“We enjoyed our holydays.”
The cottage was very clean and Tomintoul is a very Nice village.- Mandart, July 2018
“I have put the review as "met expectations " simply because we have stayed in the cottage before so know what it is like.”
It's a wonderfully appointed cottage with every mod con you need for an exceptional holiday . We just loved it once again , it didn't disappoint. The village as a whole is fantastic , very friendly atmosphere and the local people are very welcoming. We will be going back at some point to the cottage , it is a credit to it's owners Stuart and Hannah- Mr Barnsley, June 2018
“Nia Roo is comfortable and we enjoyed our stay.”
We were looking for a tranquil setting for a much needed rest from the hustle and bustle of work the week, at Nia Roo ticked all the boxes and we came back feeling relaxed.- Mrs White, March 2018
“Great location and a nice cottage which would be even better with a little TLC.”
An extra comfy seat in the living room and a better equipped kitchen would make a big difference. The standard of food available in the village is not great so you have to cook in-house particularly in winter. Would also have been nice to go into a warm house as it was minus 7 when we arrived, however I appreciate this not always easy to achieve.- Mr MacKenzie, January 2018
“Lovely village and good comfortable cottage.”
Perfect for exploring and walking. Yes I would recommend this.- Ms Cunningham, March 2017
“The weather was absolutely beautiful up until Thursday evening and the early hours of Friday morning where it was torrential downpour all night.”
The cottage was clean an tidy when we arrived and nice and cozy the grandkids loved their stay there as well. Thanks again I will probably be rebooking Nia Roo again next year . Mr Gordon Newish.- Mr Neish, October 2016

“Superb cottage in excellent location”
A very well presented cottage with modern kitchen and bathroom. It is a very cosy cottage with great decor and a very clean feel to it. You will not be disappointing with this cottage. The location of this cottage is great, right in the centre of a small and very friendly village. We ate at out at the local pubs most nights and they were great value with a good choice of food and good character. We will definitely be booking again here.- Craig22222, April 2014
“Excellent stay, comfortable, spacious and great location”
Stayed here with friends last week and had a great time. The house is clean, warm (especially loved the open fire in the living room) and ideally positioned to explore the wonders of the Cairngorms. We went hiking and snowboarding and that didn't even touch the amount of activities we could do in this area. Would highly recommend staying here. The village itself was very welcoming, with two excellent little pubs that served good food. Very enjoyable stay- Adam P, February 2014
