  • "The property was perfect."

Everything was very clean and well cared for. The kitchen was very well equipped. After a day out, the cottage was warm and cosy with brilliant local amenities. The Rockfish cafe and the Premier shop are just up the road and both provided excellent food. The pizzas from Auntie Meg's, in the Premier shop, were excellent, as were their ready meals and soups for sale.

  • "The heating was coming on during the night and not during the day."

Some days it would have been nice to have been warm when we came in from the rain. Although there was a fire in the living room, it was cold elsewhere. The handle on the toilet cistern did not work properly, it had to be pumped and held down to flush. The oven and grill were sticky and stained. Apart from that we had no complaints, we had a great holiday and just sorry Silver Darlings won’t be available next year!

  • "A very spacious and comfortable cottage in an ideal location for exploring the Aberdeenshire area."

We had everything we needed and the welcome pack, including milk in the fridge was a nice touch.

  • "This is a lovely properly, the big bonus of which was the comfort and cleanliness of the beds and bedrooms, and also the secluded garden We, however, did not have the best experience overall."

Much of the crockery, glassware and cutlery was sticky to touch or stained and had to be washed before use, the handles on the kitchen cupboard all needed cleaned for the same reason. The splash back at the bathroom sink was badly stained and splattered with toothpaste - and also needed cleaned. Worst of all, was an overwhelming unpleasant odour from when we walked over the threshold, until we left, despite having bought air fresheners to try and mask this. The smell was particularly strong in the kitchen and living area. Although the furniture in the living area was comfortable, this room appeared soulless and bare, and a few homely touches would have made a big difference to the overall appearance. Thankfully, the sun shone some days and we were able to enjoy the garden, rather than the living area inside - and left only one day early, despite having thought we couldn’t stay due to the horrible odour downstairs. All in all, a disappointing experience.

We wanted to book again for next year but saddened to know it wasnent open for bookings. But loved the cottage. Decor was lovely, plenty of space and privacy too. Ideal location! Close to shops, play park and beach. Will definitely book again if it comes open again for holiday stays.

  • "We had a great stay overall, location and cottage are beautiful."

The local people are very friendly and helpful. A boiler problem, which left us with no hot water for the first 2 or 3 days was my only gripe. But it is was dealt with and eventually sorted by plumber. Overall a great place and relaxing break had.

  • "Property was exceptionally clean."

Kitchen was well stocked with many appliances and utensils. Property was a lot larger than it looks in the pictures and the living room was extremely spacious! It is set in a beautiful fishing village and is located 1 min from the sea front. It was in a good spot for touring round too. Definitely recommend to anyone who is thinking of booking

Well equipped, comfy beds, very clean enjoyed every minute. Super walks all around, grocery store and chippie minute away. We were very lucky and watched the aurora from upstairs too. We will definitely be back. 4th rental from Sykes, they are one of the best in my opinion.

  • "What a fantastic home!"

Everything you need and more. Lovely and clean. Was nice and warm when we got there too. Nice little touches like milk in fridge, dishwasher tabs and washing pods too. The tea, coffee and shortbread were great. Great are, nice and quiet with beautiful garden. If you book here make sure you eat at The Seafield Arms. Amazing food. Buy fresh fish from Downies and have a chippy tea from Rockfish. The coast is a mere 2 minutes away so lovely to walk the dog down there. Lovely harbour too. Too many places to mention to visit. In fact just sitting out back is ideal! Yes in February as the weather was wonderful for a few days. We will definitely return here.

  • "Silver Darlings is spacious, comfortable and very cozy."

It's also very well supplied with most of what you need for a week's stay. It's in a perfect location within the village of Whitehills which in turn is ideal for visiting the surrounding area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved the Moray Coast villages, walks and beaches. Constructive suggestions - external maintenance is required. The windows are badly needing cleaned and the garden is very overgrown with extremely long grass, unkempt or empty flower beds and old leaves requiring to be swept up. The cottage would benefit from a tumble dryer as it was difficult to wash and dry our dog towels without one. None of the above spoiled our holiday in any way but would definitely enhance the experience.

  • "Kitchen is cold and drafty and the kitchen heating is weak."

The heating system controls are unnecessarily complicated. It was difficult to keep the accommodation warm enough for a toddler overnight the first night. The accommodation was very clean and facilities seemed to be very new. Instruction regarding disposal of refuse were inaccurate but in the end this was resolved by the fact that someone unknown to us made sure an outside wheelie bin was provided partway through our stay. We would stay again if and only if a convection heater was provided for the kitchen as it was too cold to feed an infant in a highchair in the kitchen.

Thank you for the feedback, the cottage is newly on the letting market and we're happy to take on board helpful suggestions. Regarding the heating in the kitchen, we will provide a free standing convection heater in the short term and we are looking at installing an integrated, programmable electric radiator as soon as is practical. Further information on the heating system and the refuse/recycling bins has been added to the Welcome Folder. We do hope you will return to Silver Darlings in the future and have an enjoyable stay. The property

Silver Darlings is a traditional, detached stone cottage nestled in the centre of Whitehills, Banffshire.

With the marina just around the corner for stunning sea views, as well as easy access to more classic fishing communities along Scotland's north east coast, the cottage is an ideal getaway for a group or family of six.

Off-road parking ensures an easy arrival on the quiet, residential street where this beautiful cottage awaits.

Leave muddy boots in the porch area before stepping into a pleasant sitting room; set your snacks on the coffee table and start the electric fire for a snug movie night, with a plush corner sofa to sink into, or settle among the cushions of the inviting swivel armchair with a good book.

A self-catering cottage, you'll find excellent amenities in the kitchen/diner to prepare home-cooked meals, with seating for six guests to enjoy dinner together, as well as a handy washing machine and a coffee maker to kick-start your mornings.

All three bedrooms are beautifully finished with ample storage space for walking gear and large mirrors to get ready with ease; a ground-floor double offers two guests’ extra privacy, whilst upstairs another double and a twin are bright and airy thanks to large Velux windows.

Freshen up before bed in the nicely-appointed, contemporary bathroom with a bath for longer soaks in the bubbles, or a shower over for quick morning routines.

At the front of 1 Chapel Lane, a garden area is perfect for picnics on the lawn, whilst amenities and attractions await in Whitehills; on your doorstep, you'll find a convenience store to stock up the cupboards, a welcoming pub to take a break from cooking and a popular seafood restaurant overlooking the picturesque marina.

The busier town of Banff is a short journey east with larger supermarkets, as well as Duff House, a stunning Georgian estate hosting exhibitions and a fantastic golf course.

Cross the quaint bridge over to the neighbouring Macduff village for fish and chips along the harbour and visit Macduff Marine Aquarium.

Drive west for day in Portsoy, where budding historians can discover artefacts of the village's history, as well as a nearby hidden gem, the 16th-century ruins of Boyne Castle.

Travelling further west along the coast brings you to the ruins of Findlater Castle overlooking a small, sandy bay, with spectacular coastal walks for dramatic sea views and the idyllic Sunnyside Beach, a long stretch of sand backed by cliffs and sand dunes.

Enjoy the traditional seaside villages of Banffshire from the wonderful cottage of Silver Darlings.
