“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pear Tree Cottage.”

Very cosy and all the space you would need including a garden. Very welcoming and the village itself is lovely. We would recommend a stay here and we will be keeping this one on file for a future visit.

The property

Tucked away down a quiet lane in the historic village of Castle Acre rests this marvellous detached holiday home, Pear Tree Cottage.

Surrounded by rural landscape offering both walking and cycling opportunities, Pear Tree Cottage is the perfect base for families and friends alike looking to explore the scenic countryside of Norfolk.

Be charmed by the traditional character of this lovely dwelling as you step over the threshold and enter into the delightful sitting room, beautifully decorated with exposed wooden beams and a warming multi-fuel stove tucked inside a rustic original stone fireplace, offering a snug space to kick off your shoes and unwind with a cup of tea on the sofa after an action-packed day.

Venture further into the property and discover the galley-style kitchen/diner resting at the rear, flooded with natural light welcomed in through the patio doors; a lovely spot to indulge in a heart-warming meal gathered around the dining table with your loved ones.

Stepping outside, enjoy a leisurely seat on the patio with a refreshing glass of wine, enveloped in the tranquil setting of the colouful and mature shrubbery.

As the day draws to a close, climb the stairs to prepare for bed with a soak amongst the bubbles in the elegant family bathroom, or if you'd prefer, make use of the overhead shower to wash away the day before retiring for the evening in one of the two wonderful bedrooms, with the choice between snuggling up under the covers in the double room, or drifting off in the twin bedroom.

Get better acquainted with your surroundings and venture into the heart of Castle Acre to explore the fascinating heritage on display at the medieval ruins of Castle Acre Priory, or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the banks of the scenic River Nar.

After working up an appetite, treat your loved ones to a hearty meal at the 16th-century red-brick pub, the Ostrich Inn, or head to the well-stocked convenience store to pick up some last-minute ingredients to prepare a delicious meal from the comfort of your holiday home.

Spend a fun-filled day out at the nearby market town of Swaffham, where you can test your swing with a round of golf, discover the exhibitions of local history at Swaffham Museum or enjoy a spot of window shopping amongst the collection of independent and high-street shops that line the streets, if you time it right, you might even catch the weekly market!

About the location

CASTLE ACRE

Swaffham 5 miles; King's Lynn 20 miles.

A large west Norfolk conservation village with pretty red brick and flint faced cottages, Castle Acre is set within rural landscape and boasts an historical past. The village retains the ruins of a Norman castle with earthworks, the beautiful church of St James and the ruins of a Cluniac Priory. The main entrance into this attractive village is through Bailey Gate, a 13th Century flint gateway, under which pilgrims have passed for hundreds of years on their way to the shrine at Little Walsingham, a pilgrimage which still takes place today. There is a large village green surrounded by lime trees, cottages, traditional tea rooms, two public houses serving meals and further along the road, a village store. The local market town of Swaffham, five miles away, offers shops, a Saturday market with auction and Eco Tec centre. King's Lynn, 20 miles away, has a shopping centre, restaurants, a Tuesday market, theatre, cinema, train station and out of town shopping facilities.
