  • "Arrived at Compass Cottage at 15."

    20 ( access 15.00 ) to find no cleaning done or beds made up , contacted owner and Sykes , excuse given bad weather we had spent 4 hours in constant rain and got there on time. We were advised by Sykes to go to the local pub for a snack and wait for the cleaners to turn up and finish , no food at either pub . The upstairs shower leaked and the water ran down the lounge wall over the sockets , fused the lights,very dangerous. There were no tea towels . Couldn’t really have the downstairs bedroom window open due to the noise from the air source heating pump. There is a large stain on the ground floor bedroom carpet. All this said it is a lovely house it just needs some TLC and we had a lovely time

  • "Beautiful, roomy cottage."

    All needs addressed with many extras. Dishwasher washing machine, three toilets (two bath rooms) Everything clean. Would definitely recommend. One downside the WiFi only really worked in the longe - I’m guessing due to the thickness of the walls.

  • "Accurately describes cottage."

    Bigger than expected. Comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. There is a slight ‘stale’ smell on first entering but this soon dispels . No fly trouble. Like many holiday cottages, time for a good deep clean in the bathrooms particularly would be a bonus. Parking is limited, 1 large car or 2 small. Central for visiting many Norfolk attractions.

  • "Received a message on the day of arrival regarding broken toilet seat in downstairs bathroom and not to use."

    Stated delivery Tues but was not fixed the whole of the week. Rather upsetting as solely booked the cottage for the en suite downstairs bathroom due to suffering with Coeliac Disease and often requiring the toilet quickly at all times and at night. Flies in same en suite bathroom once only on Thurs teatime. Rather a few but managed to get them out and used fly squatter.

    I am sorry to hear this. The cleaning company discovered that the previous guest had broken a toilet seat, and told me that they would repair it as soon as possible. I will discuss this with them. Property Owner

  • "The property was adequate for our needs."

    Just a bit more attention to details would make a big difference such as a deep clean and paint to even sweeping the garden and cleaning the windows. The blinds were broken and one fell down twice. Why supply tea, coffee and sugar and not salt and pepper. There was a tea towel but no oven gloves. Parking is only adequate for one car only. All in all the property was ok but grubby.

  • "Even though there was a note to let us know about the flies in the house, it did say that it had been sorted, which clearly was not the case as there were a considerable number of flies in the house each day."

    Contact was also frustrating as we were offered a 25 pounds by the owner as a gesture of goodwill due to the flies and the broken sink upstairs but because a no reply email was used, a reply was not an option We would have really appreciated an email directly from a customer representative or a direct number for us to call. We had a very tight schedule and this would’ve made things much easier for us but as it was, the issue was not resolved. Despite that we did like the cottage we were left quite disappointed with the service we received.

  • "The house was perfectly situated for all of our needs and the house facilities were perfect and had everything that we could ask for."

    The TV channel selection was great and ample to keep the kids amused! I have had to give a lower score for the cleanliness of the property. Overall it was clean, but there was a film of dust over the cooker and cooker hood - someone before our stay had written 'clean me' on the hood, so it had not been cleaned before our stay. Also the corners of the rooms had dust on the floors plus there were cobwebs in some of the rooms. The main issue we encountered was the towels - although they appeared clean when we arrived, they smelt like they had been dried over an open fire and after one use they smelt really damp. The rotary line for the garden was broken and the heating was not on so they could not be dried well. During our week stay I had to wash the towels twice. I contacted the owner after 3 days and they were able to provide additional towels from their store but these towels also smelt bad so could not be used. My suggestion would be, as there is power outside, I would consider installing a condensing tumble dryer in the shed.

  • "The cottage is in an ideal location where you can easily visit Cromer, Sheringham and Holt."

    The cottage was ideal if a member of your party needed lower floor access only, as the double bedroom downstairs had an en suite bathroom. The only negative was the tiny garden outside which was covered in stones and not appropriate for dogs to use.

  • "Such a disappointment, had to set too and clean cottage on arrival , kitchen dirty, sink tea stained, floor covered in thick black dog hair and grit ,also on stair, washing m/c,and bath."

    Smell of damp in all rooms downstairs, leak under sink and in ensuite bathroom, leaked onto bedroom floor end of week although constant mopping , oven dirty .Long awaited and much needed holiday spoilt for us all constantly cleaning up not what you want as paid lot for cottage very disappointed looked so nice in pictures and treat for daughter and grandchildren who sadly needed a nice break away after difficult year .

    I welcome feedback from guests about either of my properties. I would like to thank You for having taken the trouble to leave your comments and I have since communicated with the cleaning company about your complaints. Our staff photograph all properties that they manage after cleaning. I have since reviewed and compared the images they have taken and the images which yourself have submitted and I am afraid the two are difficult to reconcile. Had the cottage been in the state the way you have described I am surprised you did not immediately take up the offer to contact them directly which was left on a laminated sheet in clear view. In view of the comments about the damp, the manager has visited the property herself and confirms that this is the case in the downstairs bedroom but found that the door of the shower had been forced past the stop placed to prevent it directing water outside the bath. She believes that this is the reason. I am sorry that this did not live up to your expectations and would like to thank you again for taking your time to let me know of your thoughts.   • "We enjoyed a lovely stay in Norfolk in late July 2021; the cottage is superbly located for coast and country with Sheringham and Cromer within a few miles and the bustling market town of Holt a 5 minute drive away."

    The cottage is spacious and comfortable, the two bathrooms and additional toilet appreciated by our party of 5. The lounge is large and has an excellent smart TV for Netflix/Prime etc while the kitchen is really well equipped, plus use of the shed to store our bikes was a bonus we hadn't expected. The owner was also very prompt at sending a handyman out when we had an issue with the double bed upstairs. The only tiny criticism we have is that the downstairs en suite does not have an extractor fan which meant the bathroom remained quite humid after showers or baths and the lack of a heated towel rail meant our towels stayed damp on the days when we couldn't hang them outside to dry (the weather was variable the week we were there) but this doesn't detract from what was a really enjoyable stay.

  • "The cottage was everything we were expecting and was very comfortable, warm and welcoming."

    However my friend, who occupied the downstairs bedroom, found the fan/heating unit outside the back door to be off-putting and did disturb her sleep. Not sure if there is an answer to that but worth mentioning, in case other people have found the same problem. Other than that, no complaints at all.

    Kitchen cold tap cannot be shut off, continually drips. Downstairs bedroom, entry into en-suite carpet is very damp, suspect leak under bath. In all other respects the cottage is very comfortable and very well equipped.

  • "Lovely cottage - super clean and really thoughtfully equipped - we had everything we needed for a wonderful holiday."

    Really comfy beds too. Great location - loads to do with the kids, especially with so many great beaches nearby. Only gripe was that the cottage heating was broken and there was no tumble dryer so we really struggled to get wet walking gear dry (or our bath towels which stayed damp all week). Once that is sorted though this cottage will be perfect!

    Thank you for feedback and for choosing to stay at Compass Cottage. The heating comes from an air-source heat pump and actually was working at that time. It is thermostatically controlled and therefore did not come on during a warm week in August. With regard to drying, there is an airer inside the property and a washing pole in the shed that can be placed in a dedicated hole in the back yard. There is also an oil radiator as well as a fan heater, but clothes should not be placed directly on either. Property Owner

A traditional flint cottage, just off the main road that leads to the coast at Sheringham, is Compass Cottage, a semi-detached property, ideal for a family or group of six wanting to enjoy a coastal break on the north Norfolk coast.

The property offers off-road parking for two cars, a small, enclosed front garden and a courtyard garden to the rear with furniture, where you can sit out and enjoy a morning coffee.

Enter the property at the rear into a small porchway, before heading into the sitting room, with two leather sofas to relax onto, with the heat from the open fire warming the space, as you enjoy a family film on the TV.

The stylish kitchen/diner has a dining table with enough seating for the whole group to enjoy a meal together, created in the well-equipped kitchen, with a convenient butcher's block offering plenty of space to prepare ingredients.

The adjacent utility room offers a washing machine and leads to a handy cloakroom, while the first of three bedrooms can be found on the ground floor, with a spacious double bedroom offering ample storage space and a large en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower over, ideal for any guests with mobility issues.

The staircase can be found behind a door in the kitchen; head up the narrow stairs to find the remaining two bedrooms; neutrally-styled twin and a double room, served by a family bathroom with a corner bath and shower over.

The civil parish of Bodham is tucked just inside the Norfolk Coast AONB and offers a pub and a village hall just a short walk away from the property, while being within easy reach of the North Norfolk Railway Museum and the Muckleburgh Military Collection.

The coastal town of Sheringham is just over three miles away and is home to a host of shops, pubs and eateries, as well as the National Trust's Sheringham Park, offering 1000 acres of gardens, along with a museum, theatre, RNLI Sheringham Lifeboat Station and of course, its renowned sandy beach, frequently awarded a Blue Flag for its cleanliness.

From here, walkers can join the Norfolk Coast Path in either direction and discover spectacular coastal views along the way, with a journey west leading to Weybourne Beach and nature reserve, Cley and Salthouse Marshes, one of the country's most popular birdwatching sites, the National Trust's Blakeney National Nature Reserve and the magnificent stately home of Holkham Hall, while a venture east along the coast brings you to the town of Cromer, with its picturesque beach, pier & pavilion, museums, golf club, zoo and 15th century mansion of Felbrigg Hall.

The historic town of Holt, on the fringes of the AONB, is just four miles away from the property and is best discovered by taking the Holt Owl Trail, a walking trail that encompasses the town's key landmarks, as well as the pretty Holt Country Park, which offers 100 acres of woodland to explore.

Compass Cottage is an idyllic base to return to after a day exploring North Norfolk.

Sheringham was originally a small fishing village on the North Norfolk coast, but with the arrival of the railways in 1887 it prospered and grew into a popular holiday town.
