  • "The best equipped holiday home we’ve ever stayed in."

So many thoughtful touches. Spotless. Garden beautiful, quiet apart from distant waves, squabbling sparrows and a tuneful Robin. Eccles is unusual and the people friendly. The beach is clean and absolutely beautiful, mostly deserted apart from the odd visiting seal. The dogs loved their holiday, and we recommend Smallsticks Cafe at Happisburgh, dog friendly and fab food. We already miss it. Thanks

Thankyou Alex for taking the time to write such a fabulous review after your recent stay at Mermaid's Purse. We really do appreciate the feedback and are pleased you enjoyed all that the the property and area has to offer. Kind regards Bridget and Tim Property Owner

Hi Bernard, Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review after your recent stay at Mermaid's Purse. We've planted the back garden with a variety of plants to ensure a bit of colour all year round and are pleased you found this pretty and enjoyed your time walking on the local sandy beaches. • "The cottage was immaculately clean."

The upstairs bedroom was amazing. The area it is situated in is very run down. Many of the properties are very neglected. It has very poor roads. It is a fair trek to go anywhere. The area lets the cottage down.

Hi Nadine, Thankyou for taking the time to write a review after your recent stay at Mermaid's Purse. We are pleased you found the cottage immaculately clean and the upstairs bedroom suite amazing. We acknowledge the area may not appeal to everyone, but it's rural location, next to a quiet, sandy, dog friendly beach is perfect if your looking for a relaxing holiday. Norwich city, Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Wroxham, Seapalling , are all within a drive of 30 minutes or less for a day out. The roads around Eccles are unadopted which is listed in the description and just need a little more care when driving around. Thankyou Bridget and Tim Property Owner

  • "Mermaid’s Purse is a gorgeous cottage with lots of care."

The extra’s are just so lovely like the homemade shortbread, cheese, coffee, tea etc. The dog is made so welcome with the biscuits, dog bed, bowls, blanket. Really nice. Nice surprise was the speaker and logs for the fire. We had a lovely stay and great weather. At night we could hear the sea whilst in bed in the master bed room (with windows open), very relaxing. It’s such a quiet location with lovely neighbours and sooooooo close to the dog friendly beach. The owners are lovely and very attentive to every detail. A true home away from home.

The effort and attention to detail by the owners is without doubt the highest standard we have seen across all our UK holidays. The cottage is spotless and every little thing has been thought of. It is clear that the owners take great pride in the property and we hope to visit again in the summer.

  • "The property is great."

It is well appointed and spotless. We had occassion to contact the owners before we started our holiday and they responded very quickly. The welcome pack was great, especially the home made shortbread, which didn't last long. We had a great week just what we needed . Would highly recommend this property.

  • "I hot a txt to say the house was ready which was nice ."

On arrival there was tea and coffee etc , milk cheese and biscuits and homemade shortbread which was a lovely touch . The house was super clean and the garden perfect for out 2 dogs. The house was a little cool and we couldn’t get the radiators to come on so we used the multi fuel fire all week which was lovely for us all. The only problem we had was that 2 of the bed mattresses were too hard for us so we had to sleep in the smallest bedroom and bed which my husband at 6ft 3 found quite challenging . The bed linen was lovely tho throughout . Location was perfect just 200 yards from the beach and very quiet .

  • "I am disabled and therefore going on holiday presents certain problems."

Standard toilets are too low, higher ones are available and make life so much easier. Grab handles in the shower are needed as as there is nothing to hold on to and I did not feel safe when showering. These are the only issues I had. In all other respects the property was perfect, comfortable and spacious

Thank you for your feedback, We have decided to install a grab handle in the downstairs shower during our next maintenance week in November as we want all our customers to have a wonderful stay and we hope this will help. Property Owner

Comfortable and well equipped with everything required for a family holiday. The garden was secure for the dog and was a lovely sheltered spot to sit out. The beach is just a short walk from the house. A welcome pack was provided by the hosts and the shortbread was delicious. We had a very enjoyable hoilday at Mermaids Purse and it is definitely the best cottage we have stayed at in Eccles over the past 6 years.

  • "Probably the best cottage we ever stayed in, it was immaculate with every facilty there, even treats for the dog and home made shortbread."

The owners texted us on our journey down to say we could arrive earlier than shown on the booking. The booking process was simple and we found Sykes very efficient. We loved the location only yards from the beach and sea however some may find the location a little isolated. The private roads could do with a little TLC. Ideal for dog owners.

  • "What a hidden little gem."

The mermaids purse has everything you could need and more. The property is kitted out with all mod cons even a/c in the bedrooms. The owners have done a fantastic job can't fault anything. The cottage is tucked away in a pretty location near the coast. It was a lovely base for exploring Norfolk and would happily recommend. We really didn't want to leave at the end of the week. From the moment we arrived we were touched by the little extras such as the homemade short bread, tea, coffee, milk and cheese left by the owners. The bedroom suite upstairs really has the wow factor, the pictures online don't really do it justice. Although Eccles on sea is very quiet the surrounding areas have so much variety you would find something to suit everyone from young to old.

A lovely kitted out holiday home, they have thought of everything. A minute walk to a dog friendly beach, beautifully clean. Loved the little touches of homemade shortbread, milk, fresh orange juice and crackers and cheese. Everything finished to a high standard and super clean.

  • "Beautiful comfortable house with everything you could need and a very high level of cleanliness."

As a family of 6, from grandparents to children, there was plenty of room for everyone to have their own space when wanted. Lots of little welcome gifts for us all on arrival, eg homemade shortbread and doggie treats, which was a nice gesture. As described, the roads around there are very bumpy and uneven, but the fact that you get the use of a long stretch of quiet sandy beach on your doorstep, makes it worthwhile. The only downside is that it is a fair walk to the nearest shop and pub but it encouraged us to do a fair amount of walking. Perfect dog friendly beach. Can certainly recommend.

It was very clean and beautifully presented. The attic bedroom is like a studio flat and very chic. We spent a lot of time in the dining room at the back of the house as it gets the sun and is very comfortable. The garden is totally escape-proof even for small dogs which was another huge plus for us. There was milk and cheese in the fridge when we got there as well as home-baked shortbread and tea and coffee to start us off, very welcoming. We loved it.

The accommodation itself was in very good order and very well equipped. There was even some great provisions for our little dog, who also deserved a holiday and came with us. Would definitely recommend booking a stay here.
