  • "Can’t fault it."

Owners super helpful and left a lovely welcome pack including local cake. Cottage well equipped, dogs well catered for, everything clean and comfortable. Excellent WiFi. Stairs very steep but it’s an old cottage. The brief history of the area and the cottage in particular was a really lovely thought and very interesting. Within sight of the beach and if you don’t want to cook, many deliveries are available. Recommend 100%

Cottage warm comfortable and well equipped. Would certainly book again. Almost pruned limbing Rose but son stopped me but I do love gardening !

  • "Location is excellent."

Parking is a gamble but we were lucky and it was mentioned in the description. Also the stairs mentioned which are tricky especially as the toilet is downstairs so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Very suitable for our dog with the excellent beach so close and also large playing fields nearby. Caister classic car museum visit is a must do .Californian beach only 3 miles North is superb for dogs and the California Tavern has the best range of cask beers in the area.Local pubs are nearby but not very attractive. Great fish and chips and Chinese take-a -way within 10 minutes walk. In summary suitable for 2 fit adults with dog for a short stay.

Many thanks for your feedback. We try to be as transparent as possible regarding the character and layout of the property and mention on the advert that there are steep stairs and that the bathroom is downstairs, so that guests can make an informed decision as to whether the property is suitable for their particular need before making a booking. We're glad you and the dog enjoyed the beach as one of the great things about this property is that it is only 0.4 miles to the lovely beach. Nice to see that you enjoyed the local amenities too and we hope you visit again. Property Owner

  • "Charming cottage and we soon learned to duck!"

! Stairs were very steep as listed, therefore not suitable for people with limited mobility. The cottage was smaller than indicated from the pictures and would be cramped with four adults. As we were two adults it was superb. Parking was a bit of an issue as stated. Totally disagree with the comments from the previous hirers. Very clean and comfortable.

  • "Very disappointing."

The furniture in the living room was shabby and grubby. There were cobwebs and some wilting dead flowers on the mantlepiece. There were two of us staying and we were supplied with 2 very small bath towels and only one hand towel. There was one half used roll of loo paper in the bathroom and only one dishwasher cube, no dish brush or cloth to wipe down the counters, no filter papers for the coffee machine, although I did find a dusty cafetiere in the cupboard. Very poor value for £950 for the week. This is the first time ever that I have left a negative review of any property have stayed in.

Thank you for your comments and I am truy sorry that your experience was disappointing and if there was any oversight during the peak summer season. If we had known of any concern we would have addressed it immediately as we do give out a contact number to guests pre arrival and Sykes also have a dedicated helpline for guests who need assistance during their stay, we are sorry we were not given the opportunity to help you at the time. After your feedback I have decided to manage the property upkeep myself and oversee the changeovers, I have reviewed all cleaning and maintenance protocols. I am happy to say that the property has much improved and is now running at a high standard. Property Owner

  • "Cleanliness was very poor and we spent the first morning of our holiday trying to clean as best we could."

The chairs in living room weren’t very comfortable. Log fire hasn’t been cleaned out and smelt of smoke. Cobwebs etc. very disappointed

We are sorry to hear you had issues during your stay, we have raised this with our cleaners so as not to be a problem for guests going forward. Regarding the log fire, some remnants are left as to allow for a greater burn, it's usually normal practice but apologies for any inconvenience caused. The furniture has been chosen to be in keeping with the property character but we appreciate chairs can be subjective and personal preference. As the property is over 200 years old and considering the charming area we're located in, spider webs can form in minutes so we can't always get them all. We hope issues aside you enjoyed your stay. • "The property was situated in a lovely area however on arrival whilst trying to sort hot water the fridge had to be moved there was lots of dirt & food under it."

Freezer also needed defrosting, oven also needed a clean. Starter log pack lasted 1hour not the stated 4-5 hours. A warning should be given about door/ ceiling height. Hot water temperature was extremely dangerous. There were also lots of cobwebs. The locals were lovely which made up for the disappointment of the cottage. We've previously stayed in a Sykes cottage in Cumbria which was excellent all round we naively believed they would all be of the same standard when rated equally.

Thank you for your feedback. The fridge is heavy and doesn't get moved regularly, apologies. We have investigated following your stay and found no issue with the hot water, we advise to let the temperature adjust after choosing the best setting, then it will regulate. We wished you would have contacted us during your stay as we may have been to provide further instruction on the shower. We feel the pictures indicate the length of the ceiling, this is part of the cottages charm and makes for a very cosy setting. Kind regards Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our time at palm tree cottage and friends of my wife have already booked a week there in June ."

My only gripe is that the stairs are very steep and could see this would be a problem for the older generations as the bathroom and toilet are downstairs. But apart from that had a totally good experience in the cottage and in caister on sea .

Thank you for your comments, we do try to be transparent by mentioning on the advert that the bathroom is downstairs and the stairs can be steep, as is usually in keeping with this style of character property. We are glad you had a great time and that you friends will also visit. Thank you for your lovely recommendation. Property Owner

  • "Caution low door frames, mind your head!"

!! The property was very comfortable with a great location- straight down the road to the beach was brilliant for the kids. Close to shops, takeaways and pubs. Only thing I have to complain about was the cleanliness of the property, it was not great. Understand that on beach road there is a lot of sand, but we had to clean the property again before we could unpack. Understand the cleaners only get a certain amount of time, but just a suggestion they need more time to clean.

Nice quality kitchenware, clear instructions on everything, good Wi-Fi, fair priced. Parking was really not a problem, although neighbours quite territorial, parking bumper to bumper and making it difficult to get in and out of the front door. Dog friendly beach a minute away was the highlight…

The owners have thought of most things needed for a holiday cottage even down to the requirements of guests doggies. Parking immediately outside is not easy, but spaces can be found near by. There is a pub and a fish and chip shop nearby and plenty of dog friendly pubs within easy driving distance. Would definitely stay there again.

Did not like cars parked so close to the street door and kitchen windows barely enough room to get out the door. The car did not move once all the time we were there. Having to squeeze out between cars so tightly parked with dogs or young children is a nightmare.
