  • “What a find, this is a little gem ...”
What a find, this is a little gem of a cottage set in a beautiful location. A stone's throw from Stalham Village with plently of choice for really good places to eat and drink. Although close to the main A149 as commented on unfavourably by the last review, we did not find this impacted on our enjoyment of this lovely cottage at all. Admittedly you can hear some slight traffic noise from the bedroom at the back of the house but the main bedroom is at the front of the house with no traffic noise ...
Admittedly you can hear some slight traffic noise from the bedroom at the back of the house but the main bedroom is at the front of the house with no traffic noise at all. In fact we found it an advantage being just off the main road as it positions the cottage perfectly for exploring the Broads with Wroxham being 5 minutes one way and Potter Heigham 5 mins in the other direction. The cottage itself is immaculate, very cosy but at the same time deceptively spacious. The owners have created a very comprehensive guide, not only to the cottage but also things to do in the local area. They seem to have thought of everything! Talking of things to do, we hired a little boat and went out on the Broads which this time of year is an absolutely wonderful experience, it is so serene and peaceful, you hardly see another passing boat and with the advantage that you can moor anywhere! Unfortunately we could not do this directly from the waterfront at Stalham as they stop hiring at the end of October but they did advise us we could pick one up in Wroxham which was no bother at all, as previously mentioned, it's only 5 minutes down the road. Also i must just mention the fabulous restaurant that is a 30 second walk from the from door of the cottage called 'The Mermaids Slipper'. We didn't eat there this time as the owners go away for December and it's a quiet time of year for them but we have eaten there previously and it's a fabulous restaurant, one of the best in Norfolk as far as we are concerned. All in all, we found this cottage absolutely delightful in a perfect location and will be returning in the New Year with our friends. 5 star!

About the location

STALHAM

Wroxham 8 miles; Norwich 15 miles; Great Yarmouth 17 miles.

The market town of Stalham, with its well-stocked high street with a good range of shops and eateries, is a typical North Norfolk town. There is a small market which comes to the town on Tuesdays and a farmers’ market on every other Saturday, as well as regular sales in the town hall. Stalham is one of the major starting points of Norfolk Broads boating holidays and a museum to give you an insight in to the Broadland environment is a must. Just a few miles inland from fantastic beaches, this is a perfect base for exploring the Norfolk Broads and coastline.
