  • "Hugely disappointed with the state of the property on arrival."

It wasn't clean, especially the kitchen and dining areas. It was also advertised with WiFi but didn't have any. We contacted the owners on arrival but their response was not forthcoming at first (2 messages before they replied). When they did respond the response was rude. After further messages and pictures to show the issues as well lack of WiFi we received no further communication from them.

  • "We loved Penny Cottage."

It's attractively furnished, light and airy, and everything was as described. The conservatory and garden were a great bonus. It's in a very quiet area. Shops very close, sea 20 minutes walk away. We came with our 14 yr old granddaughter and were all very comfortable.

  • "It was a lovely comfy cottage in a quiet street."

Despite being in a terrace there was no noise. It was well equipped and handy for the beach. The owner was very helpful when I rang with a query. If we were holidaying in the area again we would contact them again.

  • "The cottage was clean and comfortable."

Would benefit a washer and a washing line. Outside could do with a little love and care e.g. grass, patio and garden furniture But overall a very pleasant stay.

  • "The cottage was as listed, I had overlooked that there was no wifi at the property and that would have been good."

Also as it mainly rained everyday a washing machine/dryer or even a washing line (for those rare times when the sun was out) would have been a welcome addition. We did however enjoy our stay and found the cottage comfortable and in a good location.

  • "Location..."

Easy access to local shops, half hour walk to beach. Very noisy neighbours to both sides and houses across the road all day and 2 nights (2am) Hardware shop noisy due to deliveries at 8.00 every morning Penny cottage .... Cosy and comfortable cottage with a very secure garden. Conservatory was lovely. Dishwasher and washing machine would be a good idea. Two single beds very creaky and bedding for these bed very poor. Main bedroom bed and bedding very good. A nice cottage but would not recommend if you are looking for a quiet break due to noise.

  • "Lovely cottage, we pretty much had what we needed, shame there was only just a few small poor quality pans."

When you are self catering you need some half decent pans, a £30-40 investment makes a big difference to your holiday. Also no washing machine there is plenty of room to have one fitted and a holiday cottage essential. But the cottage was very nice clean and comfortable and Heacham is a lovely place to stay with every thing you needed just a walk away, various takeaways and restaurants shops and pubs. Lovely log fire, which was cosy for the evenings.

  • "Clean and comfortable and well stocked cottage in a pleasant location."

I was relieved because I had read a previous negative review on here. There IS a freezer and neighbours are pleasant. I very much enjoyed my holiday.

  • "Penny Cottage is in a good location for the beach, village and places of interest."

We appreciated the off-road parking and safe, enclosed garden for our puppy. The cottage is really dog friendly as an added bonus is the door at the bottom of the stairs so no paws padding upstairs and no need for our stairgate. South Beach is brilliant for dogs too. The rooms are all well-equipped and were clean on arrival. there is plenty of storage in the bedrooms and the wet room downstairs is spacious. We were in Heacham during the hottest day in July and must admit, a freezer would have been useful, rather than just a fridge. Also, while we knew there was no washing machine, on reflection, that would have been useful too. On the downside, the cream leather suite was a little tired and grubby, throws did nothing the brighten this up as they kept slipping off, and the laminate flooring near the kitchen area seems to be breaking up.

  • "Cottage is set in a very pretty quaint town ."

All shops and pubs with real ale on the doorstep. Positive aspects are enclosed garden for the dog and driveway parking. Disappointed no washing machine or freezer. Although there is a washing line in garden. We bought some ice cream which was wasted however that was only a minor irritation. On the whole we had a very nice week exploring North Norfolk and we will definitely come back.

  • "We stayed Nov/December which was cold so coming back to a warm cosy cottage was welcome."

Overall it is a very nice place to stay, - comfortable and in a good location. Unfortunately the only downside was the single bed near the window, it was a camp bed suitable for children. The mattress needs to be changed to something more firm for an adult. The result of this for me was an uncomfortable and fitful sleep.

Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

  • "It was a lovely, spotlessly clean and very comfortable property."

The owner had gone to a great deal of effort to provide everything needed for the perfect place to stay. The little things made a great deal of difference. Lovely garden, very quiet neighbourhood and excellent parking area. I would highly recommend this property. All you need is within walking distance and has a brilliant dog friendly beach. Absolutely loved it.

  • "Having a read a bad review about this cottage before my holiday, I contacted Sykes about my concerns before the holiday and was reassured these issues had been raised with the owner."

Sykes excuse that cleanliness standards may slip in summer due to high client turnover was not acceptable! I need not have wasted my time contacting Sykes though, as the owner had clearly not taken on board previous feedback. The cottage was generally clean and potentially could be really lovely, but as the earlier bad review highlighted, there were some issues. The flooring downstairs in the lounge/dining room is bad. We also found the oven and pans were dirty (someone had stacked dirty pans with kitchen towel between them - is this someone living there between guests doing this?) We therefore had to wash everything before first use because of this. The bedding and towels were also of very poor quality and are really only suitable for the recycling bin. The beds are also in need of updating. On the plus side, the shower was great and the cottage is in a very quiet location near to shops. However, I would not stay here again with it being in its current condition. As for why I did not complain about this before my return - I was on holiday and did not want to spend my time on the phone to Sykes again or the owner. We used the cottage as a base and just had to gloss over the bad parts. Such a shame as with more care and attention it could be a great little cottage. Based on this experience, I'm not sure I would book again with Sykes, as it would seem you are not thoroughly vetting your holiday rentals.

  • "Penny Cottage was centrally located in Heacham, very convenient for shops and take aways."

A new Lidl store within easy walking distance opened while we were there. Heacham was a good location from which to visit Sandringham, and the Military Museum at Muckleburgh had a comprehensive collection of tanks and other equipment with the option of driving a tracked military vehicle if booked in advance.
