  • "The main living area is spacious, enough room to manoeuvre a wheelchair around."

The wet room was great, though we borrowed a garden chair from outside so I had somewhere dry to sit and dry myself after using the shower seat. A small shelf by the shower would be useful to pop bottles on etc. There isn’t much room in the bedrooms for a wheelchair but a bed could be pushed over to make room if needed. Our main issue was the very poor internet speed etc which compounded the issue of poor mobile reception. This would be an issue in an emergency. I was able to make an urgent call using mobile data in the end. Overall, a nice place to stay with good access to facilities, the beach, town and the very good Vegas fish and chips which has dedicated gluten free cooking area for allergies and coeliacs! Joining instructions and directions were good and very useful as otherwise, google maps etc directs you further along the road.

The owners recommendation to visit Wells was perfect - there was a path a mile along the inlet and suitable for a wheelchair! As well as lovely local shops.

As a full time wheelchair user, the facilities in the accomodation were spot on. For anyone with accessibility needs, the photos clearly show the set up. The owners were very friendly (but never intrusive). We found lots to do out and about for wheelchair inclusion, too. Looking to book for next year, now ! Thank you to Mr & Mrs R for a lovely stay !

No shelf at shower area, toilet should be near a wall for hand rails. DVD player did not work, bed rooms need modernising, ie TV in rooms, windows which can be secure with ventilation. We did have a lovely time in Norfolk/ Hunstanton, it was nice to meet Mr Richardson.

Disabled facilities could always be better but each disabled person needs different things. We got what we expected and were extremely pleased. The only thing which could have improved our holiday is if we could have brought our little dog, but we understand if an owner excludes pets. We will be back again.

MY ONLY GRIPE WAS THAT THERE COULD BE IMPROVEMENT FOR DISABLED USE , THERE WAS ONLY ONE GRIP BAR BY THE TOILET ON THE LEFT SIDE ,NOTHING AT ALL ON THE RIGHT LEAVING IT QUITE UNSAFE WHEN TRYING TO GET OFF THE LOO.NOTHING BY THE SHOWER TO PUT SOAP/SHOWER GEL. MY HUSBAND HAD TO STAY IN THE SHOWER ROOM WITH ME TO HOLD MY WASH STUFF . GETTING INTO BED WAS DIFFICULT AS THERE WAS NOTHING TO GRAB TO GET INTO BED. OTHER THAN THAT EVERYTHING ELSE WAS FINE . IF THE SMALL ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE IN THE BATHROOM AND BEDROOM IT WOULD MAKE THE STAY REALLY COMFORTABLE FOR THE DISABLED PERSON.

  • "Arrived at 5a Hideaways, Hunstanton on the 14th May."

Cottage not as expected quite small more like a chalet, bearing in mind that two of the guests are disabled and the cottage stated that it was disabled friendly. One of the bedrooms has no wardrobe or shelving for clothing and a wheelchair would not be able to get to the side of the bed. Cottage very dark as you cannot really open the blinds people opposite and around can see straight through. On our second day (Sunday) whilst cooking our main meal in the evening we were invaded by an “army” of ants, there was provision for dealing with ants in the kitchen cupboard in the form of spray and powder which we used. We phoned the owner who came straight away, who said there had been no sighting of ants the previous week, however, she did mention that she had been in touch with Rentokil who would not deal with problem. Mrs Richardson apologised and she asked if we would go out the next (Monday) day so she could arrange for cleaning and ant traps to be placed about the kitchen, which we agreed to. We did have a few more ants but not many. Mrs Richardson did say if we wanted to leave she would talk to you. We did feel very uncomfortable about staying for the rest of the holiday but thought we would give this further consideration. Nearly everyday ant powder has been put around courtyard. Suggestions Strainer for vegetables Casserole dish Signage for drive, very easy to miss even with sat nav. Nearest Emergency numbers eg doctor, hospital, dentist. After using your company several times this is the first time we have encountered problems.

  • "Our first visit to Hunstanton but it will not be our last."

Superb accommodation, well maintained and spotlessly clean. Ideal location for access to sea front, local supermarket and a 15 minute stroll on flat ground in to town. Would recommend the local chip shop just 5 minutes round the corner. This is the first time we have had to book a property with disabled access and we could not have picked a better one. Everything is to hand and access through the property is amazing even using a wheelchair. The whole property is spacious and ideal for anyone with limited mobility. Even the layout of the tables and chairs were in exactly the right place with plenty of room to move around. No need to move anything, it was perfect. A real credit to the owners, a very pleasant couple. The wet room was amazingly large and again very well planned out for anybody with disabilities. We managed very well. The bedrooms were amazing with lovely comfy beds. The pictures on line do not lie, what you see is what you get and it was amazing. Despite the local area being densely populated with holiday camps and loads of caravans this had no effect on the peace and quiet we had even though it was over the Easter week. Everything about this accommodation was faultless in our opinion and we would certainly return for another visit. A score of 10 out of 10 would not be enough, it certainly deserves a much higher rating. A very big THANKYOU to the owners for providing a superb holiday let.

  • "The main room & kitchen were excellent."

The kitchen had everything needed and the dish washer was a bonus, as was the use of a washing machine and dryer (although inaccessible for a wheelchair user). It was good to find an accessible cottage, but it did leave a bit to be desired. The bedroom was small, and I was unable to access the wardrobe (no room to open the door, with the wheelchair between the door and the bed) and the bed was uncomfortable. The second bedroom had no storage at all. Hooks on the doors and a hairdryer would have been useful. The wet room was excellent but the shower was either boiling hot or tepid, it needs a maximum temperature gage on it. The seat was adequate and I'm glad you provided it, but for a fully paraplegic it wouldn't have been very safe, a wheelchair shower chair would have been better. The sofas were low and not the comfiest but adequate. The location was excellent, close to the town, a supermarket and a pub/restaurant, with a little community feel. A security light near the drive would have been useful as it was very dark and hard to see where you were going when you came home at night. On the whole it was good, parts were excellent, parts need some improvement. Thank you.

  • "Specifically chosen because of the facilities for an elderly relative."

The accessibility inside and outside gave her great freedom and confidence. The location is also ideal for families because it is close to the beach and a variety of amusements, but the accommodation is very peaceful so would also suit those in need of a quiet break. Only a 10 minute walk along the promenade to the centre of Hunstanton and Tesco within walking distance. A great selection of places to eat in Hunstanton, but for convenience I can recommend the Honeystone pub. Nothing glamorous, but the food is good ‘pub grub’ with very pleasant staff. We’ll be back to enjoy more of the beautiful countryside, quaint villages and the beaches of golden sand.

Very comfortable accommodation with almost everything provided. My disabled daughter-in-law really loved the wet room and the armchair was very comfortable for her too. The only things lacking were a wardrobe in one bedroom and a razor socket but these were minor inconveniences. • "Mum has some mobility issues so there is always a little anxiety before going on holiday in case the accommodation isn’t suitable."

We needn’t have worried. 5a Hideaways is very well appointed with plenty of space to move around , even with a walking aid. As well as the large leather sofas there is an upright arm chair which delighted mum . The bathroom is well equipped for use by disabled people. The kitchen is well equipped and included some complimentary cleaning products. Sound insulation is good so we never heard our neighbors which is good as dad is deaf and likes the tv on loud. Parking is immediately outside. Being set back from the road there is no noise from the road. The property is close to all local amenities and the sea front. There is a medium sized Tesco across the road which has a filling station where morning papers are available. We met the owners who were both very pleasant. Whether you want a seaside holiday or a base to explore the Norfolk Coast , this is the perfect base and provides relative luxury at the same price as a caravan. We would definitely return. I would also like to say that booking through Sykes couldn’t have been easier. I paid in monthly instalments over the phone and the staff were very helpful. We have already booked through a Sykes for next year for a little further down the coast .

  • "The reason for scoring less than excellent was the lack of information at the property."

There were no instructions for the cooker, washing machine or the dishwasher. The lack of drying facility was also a drawback - outside washing line relies on good weather which cannot be assured. Most properties also include a selection of tourist information which is always useful and is at no cost to the owner. The lighting and propped up mirror in the wetroom were less than ideal.
