“The quiet setting (except for USAF), beautiful garden and arboretum and the lack of road noise made this a restful retreat.”
Minor negative points but worth knowing since you ask: the kitchen lacked tablespoons, a tray, a peeler, enough bowls and small tumblers and needed another serving dish. The shower unit needed a rack inside the cubicle to hold shampoo, soap, sponge etc.
“NO DON`T GO THERE !”
`cos my wife and I want to keep it all to ourselves...a lovely cottage in a fantastic location with such a peaceful atmosphere. Brilliant. David Young.
“Perfect Stay in the Thetford Forest Crossbills is a wonderful cosy cottage in a superb Norfolk location!”
The cottage was spotlessly clean with a very well equipped kitchen for self catering. The beds are very comfortable. The walks around the cottage are fabulous and the cottage is very well located for visiting the surrounding towns of Norfolk. The owner is very friendly and helpful. This experience is highly recommended.
“Great accommodation in a walled garden the hosts encourage you to use.”
Hosts welcoming and friendly. I would strongly recommend staying here.
“Great location very peaceful great place to use as a base to visit all the local and main attractions”
“This cottage is set in an arboretum, there's a forest and a lake on your doorstep.”
.. literally. The cottage is gorgeous, with an outdoor bbq area, a fire pit, an outdoor table - all of which we used as the weather was amazing. We took bikes and explored the forest and the trails... and amused an inquisitive eight year old for days ! The hosts are lovely, and the estate they have created is really rather special - it sounded nice from the description but its actually far far nicer than i can describe !
“Generally we enjoyed our stay at the cottage and the Staff and owners are friendly and helpful.”
The property is well presented and easily accommodated the two of us. The gardens are stunning and worthy of any stately home. The access to lovely walks through the forest and arboretum was great. They are welll placed to visit many attaractions and places in Norfolk but many things are about 50 min drive. Not much in Mundford but well worth a walk one day. The free WiFi was great and a solid signal which was much appreciated when researching stuff to do. The negatives were, the kettle was unusable (limed up and shedding) so we managed to buy one at Curry’s for £5 in Thetford. It’s not the first property where this is the case so we felt it was a good investment for the future. No landline and dodgy mobile signal was of concern. If your looking for peace there seemed to be a quiet a lot of noise from the activities of the various staff or contractors attending the gardens.
“Very nice property in a lovely location”
“Great accommodation, beautifully presented, lovely tranquil surroundings.”
Owner Mel was very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely like to book this cottage again
“We had a great time and cannot wait to rebook & return again.”
The owners of the property are very friendly & helpful. An ideal setting for dog owners with the arboretum next door.
Beautiful cottage finished to a lovely specification i.e felt more like a home than a traditional let.It also had a great kitchen well equipped, lovely bedrooms with great beds.Situated in beautiful woods.
“Cottage in the woods”
This beautifully renovated cottage is part of a block that were originally gardeners' cottages in a complex next door to the Lynford Hall Hotel. It is located within a walled garden in the Thetford Forest, ideal for walking dogs. There is a delightful arboretum next door. The location is also ideal for exploring East Anglia which was the reason we chose it. Nearby Brandon station is useful as it is half way between Norwich and Cambridge, two pleasant days out. The North Norfolk coast is within easy reach by car as well as Sandringham. The cottage is excellently appointed and the surrounding gardens are a delight. The owners were very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed the welcome pack. A very enjoyable week.
“Excellent rural retreat.”
These cottages are based in a separate walled garden in the middle of some quite beautiful parts of Norfolk. Accomodation was perfect for the three of us and our hosts could not have been friendlier or more gracious. We experienced lots of varied and diverse cycle tracks and routes through Thetford forest as well as the occasional B roads. Many places of interest also just a short to medium drive from Mundford. Highly recommended.
“Absolutely excellent! Looking forward to our next Trip already!”
Brilliant location, lovely cottage, friendly customer service. Already planning our next Trip. I highly recommend it.

A delightful property completed to the highest of standards, maintaining many original character features throughout.
Featuring two bedrooms and a shower room on the first floor and a large kitchen with a cosy living room on the ground floor, this is an ideal holiday base.
The kitchen is well equipped with all the luxuries you would expect in accommodation of this standard.
An interesting glass floor showcases an illuminated section of the Victorian heating system, which once heated the palm houses and pineapple pits in the kitchen garden of the original build.
This is a wonderful cottage for couples, a real romantic retreat and ideal for friends and families who enjoy nature and woodland walking.
