  • "We had a wonderful few days at Cherry Tree."

cottage with our grandchildren aged 6 and 10. They loved "living in the country" as they live in London. The cottage was cosy and homely yet had all the conveniences and amenities we needed. It ticked all our boxes However, we did find the neighbours unfriendly. We got told in no uncertain terms to stay away from the sheep [which my grandchildren had named) as it was private property. Such a shame we couldnt then look at the sheep as it was a selling point for us when I read there were sheep at the bottom of the garden as my grandchildren have never seen sheep up so closely That aside we had an amazing time and would definitely recommend staying at your beautiful cottage.

Thank you for your review. We are pleased that you and your grandchildren enjoyed your holiday and the setting surrounding Cherry Tree Cottage. The views from the cottage (including the sheep!) are wonderful but our neighbours land is private and we ask all our guests not to stray onto it, nor to interact with the sheep, who are not used to strangers. • "Quiet, nice views, comfortable bed and settees, good TV, kitchen well-equipped and a selection of books and CDs."

Some milk in the fridge and some hand wash would have been a nice welcome. Very strange kitchen with washer, dishwasher and fridge/freezer in a cupboard which made access difficult. The shower only produced a trickle of water. No floor was level and there were raised thresholds between rooms to trip over. The tiles and wood/laminate floors were badly fitted to leave gaps in places which could also cause trips. The stair banister and balustrade along the landing were a worry as they were not rigid and moved when touched. The cottage appeared clean superficially but was in need of a thorough clean. The kitchen drain and those from the dishwasher and the washing machine were very smelly. We would not return.

Thank you for your feedback and the positive comments. In our view the kitchen itself is not really big enough to accommodate all the appliances we wanted to provide without losing cupboard space. We therefore located the washer/dryer, dishwasher and fridge/freezer in the utility room. It is not accurate to describe it as a cupboard, and is just off the kitchen. The door bars between different rooms or floor coverings are all a standard size. The building itself is an old farmworker's cottage. As such, it would be unusual for it to be entirely level as a modern house would be. It's part of the character! The cottage is cleaned by a professional cleaning company after every visit. They were unable to detect any smell coming from the drains, but to on the safe side we have instructed them to carry out a chemical cleaning treatment. Property Owner

  • "We had an enjoyable stay at Cherry Tree Cottage which was spacious and comfortable."

Being quite remote wasn't a problem for us as we appreciated the peace and quiet of the location. One late afternoon we sat and watched a greenfinch feeding just outside the lounge window on wildflowers that had gone to seed, which was lovely. The lounge, dining room and sun room were all good with comfortable seating. The wi-fi worked well as did the TV. The kitchen was well equipped, although to us the layout was odd. The fridge/freezer tucked away in a cupboard off the kitchen took some getting used to; the fridge/freezer doors wouldn't stay open for loading, probably because the floors throughout the older parts of the cottage are uneven so the fridge, I guess, couldn't be levelled. It did get a bit tiresome too trekking back and forth to the fridge which we felt would have been more convenient positioned actually in the kitchen, which was plenty big enough. The bottom of the sink was badly stained, which we assumed was just through age, but we gave it a scrub and it actually cleaned up quite well. The doors to the back bedroom and the upstair bathroom both swung open unless latched shut and some of the fixtures and fittings on the accommodation were little rickety, e.g. the free standing towel rail in the downstairs shower room was decidedly wobbly. It would have been nice to have had some comfortable outside seating. There is a picnic bench, but some outdoor chairs with backs would have been nice. We did find two in the shed, but they were very small fold up affairs and could hardly be described as comfortable. The above notes are in no way intended as complaints, just observations that didn't spoil our holiday one bit and maybe just gives some ideas for areas for improvements for future guests. Cherry Tree Cottage is well place for visiting Hickling Broad and Strumpshaw Fen, where we saw a Swallowtail Butterfly (our main purpose for this Norfolk holiday). Great Yarmouth and Caister-on-Sea are also only a short drive away, either for the seaside experience, or for groceries. The welcome pack of information was clear, concise and informative, in fact one of the best we've encountered. It tells you all you need to know about the property as well as surrounding area for eating out, getting groceries and walks. Unfortunately we can't recommend the walk along the river Bure from the property to the Ferry Inn at Stokesby. We tried it and found it mostly badly overgrown and without any clear signage of where the actual path was. After fighting 4 1/2 miles of shoulder height vegetation we did eventually get to the Ferry Inn and had a very welcome drink and some food. Despite long trousers tucked into socks, I found 4 ticks attached to my lower legs, so that's something to be wary of too. We returned via the road route. Despite that last experience, our holiday was still very good and we'd definitely stay at Cherry Tree Cottage again!

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Overall it sounds like you had a good time but we will take on board your recommendations. We hope you return. Property Owner

It was very comfortable and clean and very well equipped, with lots of lovely extras. It is in a beautiful location and we loved seeing various wildlife and getting acquainted with the cuddly sheep that were owned by the neighbours! It was a very peaceful, relaxing holiday, many thanks.

  • "This is a lovely cottage, chosen by us as there was a downstairs bathroom with a walk in shower."

However, we failed to realise how narrow the stairs and corridor were so, as a disabled person, I really struggled to get up and downstairs and through to the downstairs toilet. That was our own problem and we wouldn’t want to put able bodied people off booking. The beds were very comfortable, as was the lounge furniture. The kitchen was very well equipped. Our favourite part was the conservatory. We spent a lot of time out there reading and listening to music. The quiet and the darkness at night was amazing. We wouldn’t visit again, purely because it didn’t suit my needs. However, we would highly recommend it as a lovely cottage in a beautiful area.

  • "The cottage was really cosy and clean."

Everything we needed was there. We wanted a rural setting and it ticked all the boxes. It was a pleasure to pull the curtains in the morning and see the sheep and herons. Also saw hares in the evening. the cottage is in a great position as it is near the beach, near lovely walks and not far from Norwich. I would reccommend the cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful break .

Thank you for your review. So glad you got to see the hares and herons, the sheep are always there! Property Owner

  • "Cherry Cottage was excellently equipped, everything needed for a relaxing stay."

Obviously practically brand new soft furnishings and equipment .. a treat. A few lacy late summer cobwebs in corners but brushed away swiftly and a most comfy stay. Ideal location by car for coast and Broads in the countryside. Neighbours ‘livestock’ were no problem. No noise and lovely to watch. We enjoyed evenings with a glass of something in the conservatory ,very peaceful after a lovely meal out . Would recommend The Boathouse or The Ferry Inn and it’s rosy sunsets. Quirky floors and narrow landing may be harder to negotiate for people with disabilities.

Thank you for your lovely review. You were our very first guests so we are so glad you enjoyed the cottage and the location. We hope you will visit again. Sorry about the cobwebs! I hadn't been able to visit for a couple of weeks before your visit so that was unfortunate, we'll try harder! Thank you also for your message in the visitors book and your suggestions for future guests - much appreciated. Property Owner
