The grounds are beautiful along with the girls who provide eggs, and Ronnie the pony who is just so cute. The house is so clean and the welcome pack of a lovely breakfast was very welcome. Our dog loved the treats. Chris and Clare are so friendly and welcoming, and can’t do enough for you. My advise would be that if you intend to cook for yourself stop in Diss before checking in and do some shopping there is a Tesco and Morrisons there. the pub the Thatchers is dog friendly and good lunch and evening food. Annie’s cake shop in Diss is dog friendly to. We has a lovely short break in Gissing at Red house Farm.

Thank you so much for your lovely review which will be a real help to our future guests and we're delighted you enjoyed your stay! It was a pleasure to meet you and hope you'll visit us again. We had some great chats! Best wishes,Claire & Chris Property Owner

  • "The hosts are so friendly and caring, not nosy and intrusive, but there if you need anything."

The accommodation has everything you could need, the kitchen is well stocked with tools and supplies to get you started cooking, and there's a dishwasher so you can have a break from the washing-up. The large bedroom is cosy and the bed is very comfortable, I had no problem sleeping, and it is so quiet despite the close proximity of the railway and resident cockerel! There's a wardrobe and drawers to put away your clothes, so no need to live out of the suitcase and the bathroom is just off the bedroom, which is handy at nighttime. The courtyard outside is a lovely place to sit in the nice weather, our host gave us some sun loungers to use, and it's a lovely lookout from the lounge window. We enjoyed watching the birds come to the feeders and a hedgehog visited in the evenings, there's so much wildlife to appreciate right on the doorstep. The accommodation is situated on the edge of the village and we walked to the pub (The Gissing Crown) a couple of times, it's a nice fifteen minutes walk along a very quiet road. The hosts have provided information about local walks and recommended fish and chips etc. You have to drive to buy food supplies, Diss has supermarkets, and a few of the villages nearby have small shops. We used a local farm shop (Goodies) once which was expensive but stocked some treats as well as fruit and veg (their strawberries were delicious). They also have a nice cafe. The accommodation is well positioned to explore Norfolk and Suffolk, we had days out on the broads (hired a day boat from Wroxham), Norwich, Southwold and Diss, as well as more relaxed days. We can highly recommend The Nest Box, we had a great time and would be very happy to return for a future holiday, or recommend it to our family and friends.

HI there - thank you SO much for your fantastic review which is not only nice for us, but truly helpful to our future guests. It was a total pleasure to welcome you both, plus VIP (Very Important Pooch) Teddy, to our little corner of South Norfolk. We enjoyed our chats very much and 'your' hedgehog has continued to turn up along with another! We hope to see you again one day in the future. Take care, Claire & Chris Property Owner

About the location

Bury St. Edmunds 22 miles; Norwich 23 miles.

Diss is a popular rural market town in the south of Norfolk, where its buildings offer examples of gothic architecture, and an insight of the towns past life can be found within the local museum. The market place is the hub of the town, which is overlooked by its beautiful 13th century church. At the bottom of the town is Diss Mere, a 6-acre lake with a fountain that runs all day, along with its adjacent park where you can relax while watching the world pass you by, making this a truly idyllic location. Diss has narrow winding streets with secret little courtyards, and a high street offering an array of small shops and tea rooms. On Friday the high street is home to the weekly market and to the edge of town a weekly auction is held in the local salesrooms. To the other side edge of Diss you will find its 18 hole golf course. Walkers can explore the Boudica Way, a wonderful 40 mile walk from Diss to the medieval city of Norwich.
