  • "Such a beautiful spacious property in a really lovely setting but unfortunately the cleanliness and maintenance lets it down."

    1. The kitchen and bathroom drains had a very strong unpleasant smell, we had to leave the window wide open in the bathroom as the smell was so bad 2. The BBQ was unusable as it was filthy dirty and covered in cobwebs and no gas available 3. The so called Kingsize bed as described in the listing was only a standard double 4. There was no welcome pack not even some milk and no starter pack of firewood for the wood burner as listed 5. The shower cubicle leaked and left a puddle 6. Some of the dining chairs had loose spindles and one fell out completely 7. There were no cleaning products available for the toilets or kitchen surfaces On a more positive note we managed to see a family of deer, squirrels and a pair of Jays in the surrounding garden which was wonderful. This could be such a wonderful holiday property if more time and investment was spent on cleanliness and maintenance

Thankyou for your feedback which is helpful to us so we can try to resolve any issues for future guests. We are delighted that you thought the property beautiful and spacious and that you enjoyed the variety of wildlife in the surrounding garden . I will respond to your other points in order. In 1. We are very sorry to hear that the kitchen and bathroom drains had a strong unpleasant smell and that you had to leave the bathroom open as the smell was so bad. When we discovered that this was a problem we had all the drains rodded and we found a blockage due to sanitary towels in the main drain leaving the property. 2. We are sorry you found the barbecue unusable. It is difficult to get rid of all grease stains unless the barbecue is heated up again. The barbecue does not run on gas. It needs charcoal and this is something we expect our residents to purchase. There may have been cobwebs on the lower part of the barbecue but may I remind you, you asked to come early and when we said we would not have time to check everything you said that was ok. 3. Our king-size bed is definitely a king size!! It has recently been purchased from Oak Furniture Land and the king size pocket sprung mattress is a recent purchase from John Lewis! The duvet and all bed linen is also king size. 4. I apologize there was no welcome pack as you had obviously been expecting this. We had stopped this service as we found it was often not used. However, in light of what you have said we will resume providing milk. We normally provide a starter pack of firewood during the winter months only. 5.We are sorry to hear the shower leaked and left a puddle. We do try to make sure all waste units are cleared of blockages, such as hair after guests leave. It is hard to comment further without seeing what the problem is at the time it occurs. 6. The dining room chairs are fine quality from Denmark, specially designed to maintain the natural curvature of the spine . They have been used in a family home but unfortunately have not stood up well to the rough and tumble of a holiday let. We have decided to replace them with sturdier chairs as soon as possible. 7. We leave bleach to clean the toilets in the cloakroom by the front door. We leave disinfectant for the surfaces under the sink in the Utility and we leave some starter dish washer tablets by the sink and washing machine liquid in the Utility . Once again, we are delighted with what you have enjoyed about the property. We have taken on board your other comments and thank you for your input. We always hope our holidaymakers will let us know of any problems while they are there so they can be resolved as soon as possible. Property Owner

We paid a lot of money to stay there with my 94 year old mum and was worried about her catching something ALso there was a pair of pants left on the toilet back piece which should have been removed. All windows has dead insects on and cobwebs Was a nightmare to just generally get the tv working my mum couldn’t watch her caranation street . And her other soaps . Not that I watch it but she do . I have taken pictures of this so it’s all true and spoken to sykescottages Jane ckarke 07576200580

Hello, I have read your review and would like to respond; 1. With turnovers the same day it is unfortunately easy to miss things within a 5 hour time frame - between people leaving and arriving. 2. All surfaces, floors & bathrooms have disinfectant used on them so they are all left clean. This also at times relies on people making sure they clean things before they leave. Such as not putting dirty cutlery back in the drawers, when this happens it means taking them all out and cleaning them again. 3. All dead insects are vacuumed up before arrival, unfortunately if there are open windows or doors then insects will be let back inside. Being in the countryside with so many pine trees means unfortunately there are a lot of flies, and spiders. 4. As many cobwebs as possible are cleaned but they reappear within a day or two. High level cobwebs are not always easy to see but we do our utmost to remove them all. 5. The TV was not working due to someone resetting the Fire stick, it was fixed the next day after being notified. 6. We do tell everyone that if there are any problems to contact during the stay, so that any problems can be resolved. I'm sorry that you weren't happy with your time spent at the property, but we do try our best. Property Owner

  • "House/villa was huge."

Inside garden lovely. Grandchildren looked forward to seeing it "rain" inside. Hot tub better than any at previous cottages we've stayed at. Saw deer every day and lots of birds. Enjoyed our stay and would come again. What I would say is although it is in pleasant surroundings , there is a lot of traffic noise at times from nearby roads.

  • "We recently stayed at this property as a family of 6 with 2 young children and was blown away by the breathtaking views it offered outdoors."

The spacious layout indoors was fantastic too, providing ample room for relaxation and enjoyment. We all enjoyed the indoor garden feature which was a lovely addition to the property. The property has an array of dvds, cds and games available which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The location was central to amenities and close to Banham Zoo which we enjoyed with the children. We even spent the day in Great Yarmouth which was only an hours drive away. It was great to see that all bedrooms and bathrooms were on one level so easily accessible throughout. However, we must mention that the cleanliness of the property was definitely questionable. It seemed as though the cleaning could have been more thorough, which unfortunately impacted the overall experience. There was visible dust and grime in various areas, which made us uncomfortable especially with young children. The light fittings on the wall were full of dead moths and shelving in the toilets were covered with dead flies. There were cob webs everywhere which definitely gave the impression that it was not cleaned regularly enough. Pictures are available. The furniture is outdated and falling apart. Many of the dining room chairs had spindles which kept breaking off when sat on. The beds/mattresses and bed linen smelt of damp. The shower in the ensuite bathroom leaked on to the floor and caused puddles and trip hazards close to the door to enter. We found ourselves having to mop up every time the shower was used There were no basic amenities such as an iron and ironing board. We did request thus from the host who said they could try to source one however were unable to. The hot tub was a great feature and the main reason we book these holidays together. However, there was no privacy with the hot tub facing the main drive into the neighbouring properties. The hot tub is situated right outside of 2 bedrooms which meant it was difficult to use in the evenings when the bedrooms were occupied. On the first night the hot tub was not working, we called the host who came to have a look and informed us it would be fixed the next day. Despite this, the stunning views and spaciousness were definitely standout features of the stay. We hope the host addresses these concerns for future guests.

  • "Spacious house in beautiful calm setting."

Ideal for us as a three generation family. Beds comfortable, and rooms large. Kitchen was great. The only real negative for us was the lack of basics. For example, no bin bags, or cleaning equipment, and for a weekend we did not want to have to shop for this. However, now we know this, and we would still want to come back.

  • "Very good property."

Very large and sizeable. Thankfully there was room for the kids to run around and the kitchen was excellent. Kes (owner) was very supportive in case we needed anything. Given the cold and snow outside we were happy to stay indoors for most of the trip They usually provide for everything and the house is as advertised

I'm pleased you and your family had an enjoyable time. I find the high glass windows allow you to relax, looking out at the garden and the tall trees, let's all your problems melt away. Thetford is especially a great place to come to in the summer as there is the nearby expansive forest to explore and exciting day trips off to either the Norfolk or Suffolk coasts which are always great places to explore at any time of the year. We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "Really enjoyed our stay over the Christmas period, Thank you."

The large open plan spaces were ideal for the kids and we had a great time entertaining them, they also loved staying there and now want to go to a holiday house every year :) We would definitely come back. Thanks again.

Sorry for the long delay in replying but we are rather new to holiday home letting and looking at feedback. We are so pleased to hear you and your children enjoyed your stay and that even with the ghastly weather you all enjoyed yourselves. With the warmer summer months arriving you will find the house, garden and surrounding areas so much more pleasant should you decide to book again. Property Owner
