  • "We enjoyed our stay thoroughly despite some very wet weather."

The House was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We were particularly pleased with the enclosed patio and garden which were very safe for our dog. The location of the house is very convenient for the beach , shops , cafes etc and despite being near the centre of the village it was surprisingly quiet. We have already booked a return visit next year.

  • "We were family of 7 adults 1 six yr old and two 6mnth old twins and one dog we holiday in abersoch every yr as a family the house is perfect location as all right there on doorstep."

The house for me was extremely disappointing from the off not been cleaned properly at all dust and cobwebs everywhere and behind furniture on skirting boards and bedside cabinets (got photos ) we had to clean pans and kitchen trays before using. Downstairs wasn't too bad of a space was amazing for us all to be together which is the only saving grace for this house. Downstairs double where do I start mouldy plaster falling off everywhere smelt of moth balls and damp so bad had i to buy stand air fresheners to help smell this did improve it but awful awful smell. So damp in there there were wood lice all over both the bedroom and the shower room walking on floors and up the walls Blinds n curtains didn't work properly in most rooms very grubby mouldy looking and my husband had to spend first morning putting living room curtains back up cos fell off track When opening them . My girls and family were upstairs in the bedrooms and yes we all fit it wonderfully well but all over things missing or grubby or cobwebs. Lots of things in this house needing attention and no way a 4-5 star house we have stayed in much better Sykes cottages over the last 4-5yrs all in abersoch. We paid 1500ish for a wk which is alot but that being said there were 10 people total in there so guess not to bad. If I'd have used this house in height of season n been paying top money I'd be mortified. Even down to the pots pans dishes ect . We like a glass of wine plastic ones only arrghhh seems abit harsh maybe but we like a glass and a nice glass to drink out of. All in all the house is in need of major work to get it up to the rating it's advertised at. The outside space was amazing and huge but again old looking furniture all in need of upgrades. We had a wonderful week together even with all the above being said because the house is very centrally located pub across the rd beach 10min walk shoes 5 min walk but would I risk staying there again with all the damp smelly issues that go with this house NO I'll be looking around again now for something else. One last thing do Sykes go around and look at these houses regularly to check them out because I did read some reviews about the mouldy room before we booked but u think we'll may not be as bad as all that but yes was grim. This house Def needs re rating and price dropping I feel and we came in Feb half term are we the beginning of the season or the end ? Either way to me that house should have had a deep clean every piece of furniture moved and cleaned behind. The cleaning company need to be spoken to because terrible job done . Joanne and family ( I do have photos if anyone needs to see them)

Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry the cottage wasn't as clean as it should have been, we will of course be discussing this with the housekeeper. We did try and call you on the Saturday morning after your arrival to check all was okay with the cottage, as we would have offered to send the housekeeper back for you, we realise the cottage should have been fully cleaned prior to your arrival. Owner will be going over this week to purchase glass wine glasses, the reason she has plastic ones is in case anyone takes them outside and they break which could be dangerous for small children and animals. A handyman has been booked in to fix the blinds and curtains as well as to have a look at the damp issues. We’re glad you were able to enjoy your stay despite these issues, thank you again for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "I wouldn’t rate this property 4*5* more like 3*4 it was damp, cold not very clean and the kitchen was very cramped."

This is more a spring, summer rental I wouldn’t rent it again in the winter months. We were 5 adults could just fit around the kitchen table. Although there was a good supply of cutlery, crockery cooking utensils and baking trays the plastic glasses were rubbish there could be some actual cheap glass wine glasses supplied I definitely wouldn’t stay there in the winter months again.

  • "The cottage was a bit disappointing."

I have booked with Sykes numerous times and have always booked 4 and 5 star cottages to guarantee quality. The location was 10/10 and we couldn’t have wished for better, however the cottage itself was very tired, not particularly clean and the downstairs bedroom was damp. We have always at every cottage we have stayed at been left a welcome pack, even if it was just a pint of milk but there was nothing, and although not mandatory would have been a welcome gesture well received. I’m not sure where the Sykes 4* rating came from, as compared with other cottages I have stayed in before I did not feel this was 4*

  • "Property was fine, however, I was told twice that towels will be provided in the property but we would need to bring beach towels and tea towels, which we did."

When we arrived there were no towels for use in the bathrooms and so we had to spend time and money going out and buying them. Also I had paid £15 for a bed settee to be made up and this wasn't done, which complicated our sleeping arrangements. When I rang in after our return re the above the £15 was refunded but I was told (rather dismissively) that towels were not provided therefore it would not be said that they were. My reply was that if you listen to your recorded phone calls you will see that I am right. Your employee Simon said he would get authorisation to this and call me back but I have heard nothing since.

The property

This exceptional, detached house, Ty Ffynnon, rests in the centre of Abersoch.

Boasting a rustic charm, thanks to its original features of exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace, whilst being within easy reach of Abersoch’s beaches, this is an appealing home-from-home for a large group or family of ten.

After parking in one of the three spaces outside, make your way inside the abode to come across a spacious sitting room that is home to abundant seating surrounding a toasty woodburning stove and TV, where you can watch your favourite DVD or settle down with one of the books from the selection available.

The kitchen/diner hosts an array of fantastic appliances for the budding chef of the group to cook up a storm with, including a Belfast sink, dishwasher and impressive AGA range that is nestled within the fireplace.

Dinner can be savoured at the nearby table, or in the sunny conservatory, where you can look out over the garden whilst you dine; the conservatory also features window seats, where you can socialise with your group after dinner, with a glass of wine in-hand.

When night falls, you can find one of the four bedrooms on the ground floor, this one being a double room enjoying cream décor, an en-suite shower room, where you can additionally find Miele laundry facilities.

Continue upstairs, where three more well-presented bedrooms lie, the first one being a king-size benefiting from pretty accents, a sofa and an en-suite bathroom, another being a king-size with access to a private balcony, along with a family room adorning floral décor and consisting of a king-size, bunk bed and adjoined by an en-suite shower room.

Completing the first floor is the bathroom, where you can relax your muscles amongst the bubbles before wrapping yourself up in a warm towel from the heated rail.

The garden is the ultimate entertaining space, where you can enjoy a homemade pizza night with the Jamie Oliver wood-fired oven and enjoy it at the outdoor dining area; the patio opens out to a large lawn where you can relax on the benches whilst your canine companions stretch their legs.

A highlight of the property is its position on the village’s high street, offering a wealth of pubs, restaurants and shops at your feet, as well as ample sailing and surfing opportunities along the village’s shores.

For a quaint outing, travel a short distance west to Llanengan, where you can hike through the Hillfort, where the remains of the Llanengan Lead Mines can be found, savour a pint at The Sun Inn, and venture down to the western coast to Hells Mouth Beach or the LlÅ·n Coastal Path.

Progress along the coast to Aberdaron, stopping at the National Trust property of Plas yn Rhiw and Porth Ysgo on the way; upon reaching Aberdaron, be sure to spend time on its stunning beach and enjoy a hearty meal at The Ship Hotel.

There is so much more to discover within the local area, from Llanbedrog and Pwllheli to the headlands of Cilan and Mynydd Mawr.

About the location

ABERSOCH

Pwllheli 6 miles.

The attractive harbour village of Abersoch is situated on the Llyn Peninsula in a region of Wales renowned for its outstanding scenery and varied walking. The village, situated between two glorious bays, is one of the most popular sailing venues in North Wales and important sailing regattas are held there throughout the summer months. Numerous shops cater for the tourist as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes. There are also opportunities for golfers as there is a course just outside the village and horse riding facilities are also available nearby. Watersports enthusiasts are also well catered for, particularly windsurfing, water skiing and dinghy sailing, not to mention renowned surfing at Port Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth). The long, sandy Abersoch Main Beach is probably the most popular beach in the area. There is a wonderful selection of beaches in the surrounding area of the Llyn Peninsula, including the beautiful and often quiet Porth Ceriad, with it's high cliffs, and sandy Porth Oer ("Whistling Sands"). Most of the coastline is owned by the National Trust and there are many remote bays, sandy beaches and cliffs, as well as wildlife havens like Bardsey Island to explore.
