  • "Holiday cottage was spotlessly clean and everything was as listed."

Great property for large families and we had a great time. Facilities were great, plenty of room for everyone, no issues with heating or hot water. Would definitely recommend. Property full of character which definitely added to the stay.

  • "Wonderfully quirky old property with furnishing that really suited its character."

Nice big rooms that met the needs of our multi-generational party perfectly though four sets of stairs and two toddlers required some careful supervision!! We were able to visit many areas of interest including Snowden which were no more than an hour or less away. Queries were responded to quickly by owners and the bowl full of fresh eggs was much appreciated. A little pruning of shrubs would have made it more fun for the older children to explore all parts of the outdoor space but plenty of room to play outdoor games. We would happily recommend it to any large group.

  • "Absolutely fantastic."

House full of character and very spacious. Very well equipped- we lacked nothing. Beds were extremely comfortable and bathrooms plentiful. We all enjoyed being able to stroll down to the river and there were lots of great walks a short drive away. We were warned about road noise but that didn’t seem bad to us. The garden was nice and the the games room being outside suited our party as those who wanted to retire early didn’t hear the noise of the competitions! There was nothing we didn’t like. A bigger hot tub would have been better though.

  • "Just returned from 50th celebrations, 9 couples."

Had a fab time, the accommodation is a little dated but this was expected due to the description & style of the property. It had everything we needed and plenty of room for everyone, a lovely big kitchen where we spent most of our time, some lovely bedrooms & ensuites and comfy beds. Everything was really clean, including the bedding and towels. Only downside was maybe a larger hot tub and in need of some wine glasses - but that was literally it. It was a great space for groups of friends or family. We also walked to the local pub 'The Blue Lion' who accommodated us all and fed us well - we did pre-book. Overall we would recommend!

  • "The house has potential but it has several issues."

Road Noise is an issues and there is only single glazing next to a busy road. A larger dishwasher or another is required for a large number of people. More wardrobe or facilities for hanging clothes are required. We were unable to close several doors and some were very squeaky so we purchased some WD40 and put it on the hinges.

  • "This house is absolutely perfect for a large group of friends."

The beds were comfortable with decent bed linens and pillows, there was plenty of hot water for showers and washing up. The communal areas are great. We walked into Corwen & back on a very rainy day and I would say the only thing missing was a roaring log fire but the heating was sufficient to warm us up. We would definitely return

  • "We booked the Druids for a very alternative style hen do, had a ceremony at the stone circle outside the house, lots of feasts outside, went river swimming at Horseshoe Falls and saw some of the beautiful Dee valley."

.. the weekend was sublime, weather included, but the house was almost the star of the show with it's kooky old details and well thought out finishes. The bedrooms were all delightful and the communal areas were perfect for a mixture of eating, socialising, chilling and a wee bit of partying. I would thoroughly recommend the Druids to anyone who wants to take a group of people somewhere that is somewhat strange yet still homely and has bags of rich character. The only negative was the proximity to a busy road, but over the weekend that really didn't bother us and after putting music on we really didn't notice. Would go again.

  • "Nope..."

.... Not one..... There were 22 of us and we couldn't come up with one thing we didn't like about our week in the Druids. The buildings have tremendous character, with many modern facilities, and provided an excellent and interesting location for a gathering of the clans. The multiple large communal rooms allowed for groups to splinter off, or for us all to spend time together as appropriate. With 11 bedrooms, many en-suite, and several WC and bathrooms, there was plenty of personal space, so no feeling of getting under each others feet. There was more than enough bedding, toweling, crockery, potware, and cutlery to cater for the masses. A washing machine and dish washing machine helped us to tidy up afterwards. We were blessed with good weather, so were able to sit in the large gardens. The only entrance can be secured with the large lockable gate, there is fencing all around the perimeter, so we were more than comfortable allowing the younger family to run and explore. There was a large-ish supermarket in nearby Llangollen, a small-ish supermarket in even nearer-by Corwen, and a huge farm shop complex within a mile. So we were easily able to stock up on provisions. We also used the takeaway food home delivery service one night, and were very happy with it. We enjoyed a fantastic week, the only thing I'd change is the energy levels of the toddlers amongst us, which I'm not used to, if you know what I mean.;-)

  • "We stayed at the Druids for a my belated 40th birthday celebration."

We climbed Snowdon, rode the fastest zipwire in Europe at Velocity Zipworld (1 hour drive away to both) and visited the surrounding beautiful towns and villages. There were 18 adults and six month twins, we had plenty of space and were able to all sit together for meals and drinks/ games in the evenings. The house was clean and the facilities were great. What can I say about this house? It is amazing, our group loved it there! It is extremely quirky with so many pictures and statues which are great conversation starters. We had great fun trying to work out the meaning behind them and spent a lot of time discussing ghost stories and scaring eachother! We felt totally comfortable there and enjoyed beautiful views outside by the druid stones with our morning coffee. The only improvement would be a larger hot tub for the size of the house and potential number of guests but for us it didn't pose a problem taking turns, we loved the hot tub and it was particularly good after a mountain climb! I would recommend this house if you want a well located, fun, comfortable and highly entertaining house to stay with family or friends. Diolch, Sarah

The facilities especially the bedrooms and bathrooms were lovely and we enjoyed the countryside setting and the hot tub. Check in and departure arrangements were all smooth and the property had more than enough space for us to all be together as a group and also to do different activities. • "The cleanliness left alot to be desired."

Lots of dust and cobwebs. I am guessing not professional cleaners. The kitchen utensils were lacking.. surely a wooden spoon would be expected. The hot tub only treated when we called owner as is it was rather smelly. House was lovely. The owners were seemingly lovely. For the £2800 for the week I would not expect to have to strip beds , empty bins and clean before leaving the property by 1000am...what do the cleaners do?? Especially when you cannot gain access to the property until 1700 ???

We are so pleased you thought our very old Druid house was lovely. As you know the Druid is a very old, grade two listed building and has been used for different things in the past and has a very interesting history. Our cleaning staff do their utmost to make the house welcoming, cosy and most of all clean for the guests on arrival. As it is old, and the walls are not even, and the floor boards a bit wobbly and noisy it is impossible to keep it dust free when people are running about especially children. The cobweb situation is also difficult as the spiders have made their home here in the last hundred years!! A lot of the furniture is antique which does suit the property, but this again must be cleaned properly with special polish and not your usual sprays. Regarding the lack of wooden spoons at the property, we are all training in food hygiene, and wooden spoons do carry a lot of germs and they also absorb cooking smells/tastes, not suitable for a guest who doesn’t like curry and the previous guest has been cooking a lovely hot vindaloo!! We do have plastic utensils which do come clean in the dishwasher. We also have a choice of chopping boards; the wooden ones suit the Druid, but we also supply plastic for those who prefer to use these. The hot tub is checked daily, very early in the morning by a member of staff that is trained correctly with dealing with all our hot tubs. A log is kept of time and date of visit, if problems occur the correct chemical is added to the water. When we received the text complaining of the smelly hot tub the owner came and testing the chemical balance of the water and found it to be fine, the log was also checked, and all was correct. We are surrounded by organic farmland, which means that we do not spread fertilizer on the fields but do use organic matter and sometimes the smell carries, this could have been the case in this instance. Stripping of beds and emptying waste bins has always been the norm but it really started with Covid 19, nobody could risk going into the property and having to do these tasks as soon as the guests had left, I’m sure everybody would agree that this is a sensible thing to be doing, we cannot make the guest do this, it is entirely up to the individuals, we don’t hold anyone hostage!! The arrival and departure time must stay the same as we rarely get finished before 1700hrs, this again is a Covid issue with ensuring the bathrooms etc are deep cleaned. Regarding the money issue, we do not receive the amount you pay Sykes as they take a substantial amount for advertising and admin. Add the water, heating, cleaning, and maintenance bills this does not leave much. We hope this clears up some of the issues that you have raised. Property Owner

We are a very large family when we all get together and the house was absolutely perfect. It was lovely to all sit around the table for a meal and to have a social area big enough to chat and spend the together. Everything was spotlessly clean and there was plenty of crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking equipment. The children in the group loved the games room and everyone enjoyed the hot tub. • "The most annoying and disappointing aspect of The Druids was the extremely late check in time and the impossible check out time of 9am for a property that takes 22 people."

This coupled with the inflexibility of moving these times in spite of no one booked in before or after our stay. For a large house asking our 20 guests to vacant the property by 9am is horrific and we decided to ask the majority to leave a day early so they could leave at a reasonable time! As we were only there for the weekend, that meant most of the guest left after only two nights, leaving 4 to check out on the Monday; it spoilt the experience for us. As previous review stated no bread knife, the kitchen could have better stocked with cutting knife and pizza cutter. However, The Druids was quirky and the accommodated was wonderful.

Thank you for your feedback for The Druids. We apologise that we couldn't accommodate an earlier check in on this occasion. We like to ensure the property is cleaned to the highest standard and thoroughly to meet Covid 19 cleaning standards. Due to the size of the property we are trying to get it ready for guests as quickly as possible. We also try and do maintenance jobs when the property is vacant to keep wear and tear to a minimum. We have now changed our check out time to 10am so guests have a bit more time in the morning to vacate. Property Owner

  • "My initial thoughts when I entered the property was " Oh Wow!"

!!" what an amazingly beautiful house you have. Thank you for sharing it with us. On reflection I was glad that 2 of my party had dropped out as the small room at the side of the house up the very steep stairs would have been a difficult for a very tall man, and a wife who would have found it hard to get up there. But how you portray this, I do not know. One for younger people maybe? Overall I found everything was in situ, and I appreciated the lovely big stove in the kitchen and the fact there were so many plates, etc. We never had a problem. There was plenty of space throught the house, although the kitchen was where everyone wanted to be ! Even though I had read that there were only 2 dishwasher tabs in the feedback, I forgot to bring some, and this caused a problem as the washing up sink in the kitchen is so very low down. Perhaps 4 might be a solution. The only other negative, that I am well aware you hear all the time, is that to get so many people organised and out for 9.00am was a major trial, and actually ensured everyone left in a bad mood, and that was such a pitty as we had really had a lovely weekend.

  • "I rated The Druids as 4 star."

It is a quirky property and we enjoyed our stay, but there were things that could have improved it. For example there was no bread knife, no spare bin bags, a lack of serving spoons. For a property that sleeps 22 there was not enough toilet paper and there were only two dishwasher tablets left. In other aspects it was well stocked e.g. cutlery, crockery. The property information was out of date and really needs addressing. The introductory information says the property is pet friendly and yet the detailed information says no pets. Just a little more attention to detail and this property would be 5 star.

00am is just ridiculous. Also when I tried to call Sykes prior to our holiday it took over an hour to get through to someone and they never came back to me with any outstanding answers to my queries. I think you should be giving the contact details of the owners well in advance of the booking particularly in these uncertain times so discussions can be held directly between the two parties. Either that or Sykes should contact people by telephone in advance of their booking to see if they have any general queries or concerns specifically about the COVID situation in respect of their holiday. I appreciate the pressure you may be under but I feel your personal customer support needs to better during these times. To be waiting on the telephone for an hour is just not acceptable
