Well I’d firstly like to say that this is a beautiful property in a fantastic location. The house was great and the enclosed garden was beautiful. I think there’s two issues though. The owner doesn’t live nearby and uses a management company for housekeeping. They are clearly taking him for a ride, but the second problem is that he doesn’t seem to care. Without wanting this to sound like a rant, I need to list the things that really could be a lot better if we are spending nearly £200 a night. The kitchen looked great on first inspection but - No welcome pack ( common in your properties) Drawers full of rusted and useless pots and pans Broken cafetière Broken stovetop espresso maker ie no way of making a proper coffee Lots of old nearly empty food packets in cupboard (But nothing basic like salt and pepper) No washing up liquid Little in the way of cleaning products Only 1 hand towel and dish towel No fire starter pack as advertised Broken and unusable stereo Wicker baskets full of broken games and toys When my wife texted the owner to ask about the fire he texted back - There’s a load of wood in the garage. Nothing in the information pack to this end. The management company should sort this for the new guests but more importantly the owner should care about this. There was a passive aggressive sign in the kitchen saying how hard the management company work to keep the place nice so we need to fulfill our side of the contract and leave it in the same condition by 10am (!!!!) After we left the owner contacted us to ask whether we had scratched “Hollie was ere” into the kitchen table. We most certainly did not and didn’t see anything like that during our stay. We attempted to discuss these things with the owner rather than leave a “trolling” review but he didn’t call as he promised. Hence the review here. I really think that Sykes need to deal with this as this type of experience damages our faith in your company (which we have used many happy times in the past and recommended to friends).

The property

Set in spectacular countryside, Erw Nant is a delightful, architect-designed, detached eco cottage, in the hamlet of Llwynmawr, North Wales.

Ideal for both families and friends, the cottage is an ideal base from which to explore this lovely part of the country.

Beautifully presented with stylish contemporary furnishings, the cottage is accessed by a footbridge over a brook and up steps leading through a pretty cottage garden, into a sun porch with seating overlooking the front garden.

Built on a split level with an open plan first floor, the sitting room offering some of the best views in the house through two large picture windows, there is a contemporary, Scandinavian woodburner to add warmth and feature when needed.

An opening leads through to the dining room with designer radiators and bi-fold doors onto a terrace area with glass balustrade.

The modern, fitted kitchen with range cooker is perfect for preparing home-cooked meals after an energetic day fell walking or exploring the local attractions.

The four bedrooms are all furnished with modern Japanese-style beds, low to the floor, the ground floor master offering bi-fold doors into the garden, as well as an en-suite shower room.

There are two further double bedrooms and a twin bedroom and two family bathrooms.

There is a beautiful garden with open views up the valley, and a stream running through the garden.

There is peace and tranquillity wherever you sit, with a secret garden area and terraced patio allowing you to find a sun trap or quiet spot when needed.

With off road parking for two cars, you won’t be surprised if you don’t move after arriving as the village pub is only 6 minutes’ walk and doorstep paths lead into wonderful countryside with the long distance Llwybr Ceiriog Trail passing close to the front door offering a 23 mile circular walk or bike ride through the wonderful Ceiriog Valley scenery.

Llangollen is only a 5 mile drive away from the cottage.

This lovely country cottage is in a fantastic location for a holiday at any time of the year.
