  • "We had a lovely time in this cosy little cottage."

We were thrilled to receive a card and bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge on our arrival - I had told the owners that this was our honeymoon! The garden was an unexpected delight and could’ve featured more in the listing. Potential visitors need to be aware that there is no washing machine, despite one being listed in the description. We were able to get firewood and kindling from a filling station, Parking was a slight issue, but parking on the double yellow lines in front of the cottage is legal for loading and unloading, as far as we are aware. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

  • "The cottage was beautifully decorated in particular the bathroom."

The only issue was the parking. It said parking for one on a first come first served basis. It was double yellow lines outside. We were there for a week and we didn't get anywhere near the cottage, on 3 occasions the first available spot was half a mile up the road. Unpacking/packing the car was made difficult.

  • "The issue with the accuracy of the listing is the Summary section lists a Washer/Dryer, and the photo of the kitchen shows a cupboard door presumably over the washer/dryer."

Upon arrival we discovered there is no washer/dryer and the kitchen has been changed so the door is no longer there but instead there is a winerack and a dishwasher. It is clearly a recent change as the Guest Information pack still informs guests the kitchen has no space for a dishwasher.

  • "Betws-y-coed is the perfect location & Squirrel Cottage is situated a 2-minute walk from THAT bridge with the gorgeous falls!"

Post-lockdown it was lovely to be able to walk to get our morning cappuccino, fish & chips or ice-cream. The cottage is cosy downstairs but has all you need. We were welcomed with Prosecco, chocolates & even treats for our dogs. The garden was the jewel for us, with the yoga/meditation hut at the end. We spent a lot of our time sipping warm drinks on the terrace & meditating in the hut (the ceiling is beautifully lit & you can see out of the top). The upstairs is well decorated & more spacious (might benefit from a small cupboard) though we managed fine without. Loved our dressing gowns that were provided for our stay! Bathroom has the best views (recommend the bath over the shower). The owner is very obliging & can’t do enough to help and make recommendations, she is even posting a cap we left behind by mistake. So really appreciated her thoughtfulness. A lovely break!

So very well equipped with some delightful and delicious treats awaiting our arrival, it took moments for us and our two small dogs to feel welcome and at home. Fantastic owner Nicola, ensured we had everything we needed for our comfort, and her communication was great. The village has everything, a great base which allows you to discover and explore this picturesque area and dog friendly restaurants open even in January. We have been staying at holiday venues similar to Squirrel Cottage for decades, and this experience is up there in my top three locations. Thank you Nicola and Sykes Cottages.

Communication was great, we had everything we needed and the welcome pack detailed all we possibly needed to know. Squirrel Cottage is perfect for anyone or couple fancying a stay in beautiful Betws-y-coed. Great walks, cosy pubs and some outstanding places to eat (you need to try Olif). From arrangements to key collection, to local advice to maximise the experience of your stay - she really helped to make our stay one we will not forget for a lifetime! - As soon as you walk into the cottage, you are greeted with a super informative information pack. The guidebook for dog walks in Snowdonia provided invaluable information for dog friendly walks! And thanks to this our dog has had the best walks of her life so far! - The cottage itself felt so homely. Every detail that Nicola went to were greatly appreciated, from the doggie biscuits and blanket on arrival, to the bottle of prosecco and chocolates. Nicola has done a wonderful job of restoring this characterful cottage, and everything about it has such a luxurious feel. - The yoga studio is a wonderful space, and we enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck, overlooking the incredible view. I have to say this has been one of the most comfortable stays away from home we have ever had, and i recommend anyone to try the Squirrel Cottage experience :)

The bedroom is a lovely size and the bed was extremely comfortable (I could have stayed there all day)!!! But with so many walks even from the cottage it was hard to stay put! There is a really good dog walking book for use while you stay which does have some really fabulous routes. The garden is absolutely beautiful and it was a pleasure to spend many hours sitting out, both in the garden and on the decking in front of the yoga/meditation studio. It is so relaxing. The cottage is furnished with style and it was very clean indeed. Nicola, the owner, does everything possible to ensure that you have a lovely stay and is extremely helpful and welcoming, even going as far to provide a bag of dog treats for our dog, Brendan. The guide for guests has every single detail in it that you could need and she is at pains to ensure that everything runs smoothly. • "Squirrel Cottage is the perfect getaway for couples or a single individual looking to escape."

Though cosy it has all the required amenities, is very clean and you will find yourself not wanting to leave. The garden is huge and not done justice by the pictures. It is almost three long, slender gardens combined, with a patio for barbecuing, a long winding path upwards, and an amazing yoga studio at the top with a second table and chair set for those looking to set out on the raised deck and enjoy the spectacular view. The bushes cover all view from the B&B next door, and though attached to another cottage, a narrow alleyway runs between the two adding more privacy with large parts of the garden obscured from anyone. In short it is the perfect compact, yet open space for those wanting some quiet alone time. During our time in the village we did not see a location more suited for a couple, and commented many times how much we had lucked out. Betws-Y-Coed itself is a delightful village, especially in the Summer for those who are fans of the countryside. There are numerous restaurants to try, three convenience stores, with the Spar also housing a lovely local bakery. The cottage itself is located right by the centre, with no major village location no more than 10 minutes walk from the door. And for those looking to explore it is the perfect base-camp for walks along the river, into the forest or even up peaks to explore lakes and seldom-trodden paths. For drivers, the coast is 30 minutes away, offering beaches, castles and other places of interests (check out Portmerion), and is even less time into the middle of the national park and mount Snowdon itself. In regards to the owner, she was easily reachable whenever required, polite and courteous. No face to face contact was necessary at any point including in the key collection, and upon arrival we found the fridge stocked with a pint of milk and a free bottle of fizz, some welsh cakes with jam and butter, and the cupboards full of basic provisions which was both a lovely touch and wonderful surprise. Highly recommend and would stay again.

A short walk from all the shops, pubs and restaurants and a beautiful riverside walk 5 minutes away. The host is friendly and welcoming and we had everything we needed in the kitchen. Lovely views from the bathroom and a peaceful garden to sit in with the frequent sound of birds. The yoga retreat was an added bonus. Already looking forward to returning. One thing to note: don’t stop in the guesthouse car park just left of the cottage even to unload because the owners came straight out to move us on despite saying we’ll only be a few minutes. It didn’t make for the warmest welcome into the area. Ample parking on the road a few metres up from the cottage though.

This really was not suitable when we are on holiday. Cooker knob was broken, so we had to eat out most days. Shower leaked in kitchen. Kettle would not click off and stop boiling. Fire had to be cleaned out before we could use it. Bathroom ceiling leak by the doorway when it rained, and wet the bathroom floor on which i slipped...... Toilet handle was loose. Fire mantle top was loose. And the cottage was full of cobwebs and generally dirty. This was not the break we expected, especially being situated on a very busy main road. The path outside the cottage is very slippery and dangerous. We are not happy and expect some kind of reimbursement. This cottage really needs some update, not just a bit of new bedding and wallpaper.
