"Lovely cottage around 15 to 20 mins from the town centre (we did walk with young children so may be quicker!"
) along the canal. Passed many friendly people along the way, too. Also walked past Waitrose so very handy for a bit of shopping on the way back. The cottage was easy to find, very clean and very well equipped. We've stayed in many cottages and this is by far one of the best. I packed tea towels, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and sponges and the like but was pleasantly surprised to find these in the cottage. Beds were super comfy, and the towels were bath sheet sized; often they're tiny and we bring our own but again didn't need to. We had a fantastic stay, loved the cottage and would definitely book again if we need.to be in the area again.
"The property was even better than it looked in the photos."
Perfect base to explore Chester. Great location, comfortable, cosy, all the facilities and equipment you could need in a holiday home. Probably the best holiday rental we’ve ever stayed in.
"Lovely cottage in a great location."
Very well equipped and comfortable. Would love to another visit but it’s fully booked.
"A beautiful cottage in ideal location within walking distance of Chester city centre ."
Cottage has everything you need . Excellent choice .
"We chose the cottage for its location and easy access to the shops along the canal walk or by car to Liverpool for the day."
If you enjoy walking the cottage is in a prime location. The private parking was also an added bonus. We found the cottage well stocked with all the comforts of home and the host was quick at hand with advice and assistance. Would definitely return and recommend the cottage for a family visiting Chester.
"We had a very nice week in Chester."
The house was immaculate and really comfortable. Pleasant flat stroll along the canal into Chester centre. Only took 18 minutes (and I don't walk fast) We walked the city walls circuit on 4 occasions. Very interesting and a nice walk. The architect pub is really, really good for food. It is opposite the racecourse.
"This is a gem of a property, located by the canal which provides easy walking into Chester."
The area is quiet with 2 great pubs within walking distance and neighbourhood shops just off Hoole Lane. The property is really comfortable, spotlessly clean and with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Importantly for us the beds are comfortable and both bedrooms being en-suite is an added bonus. The owners were really helpful and thoughtful, which we very much appreciated. In our view there is nothing we'd change and we can't wait to come back.
"The property was spotless on arrival."
Very comfortable. Felt like being at home. Good comfy seating and beds were perfect for a good night's sleep. Everything was provided for us to ensure a really good stay. House was in ideal place to walk along the canal into the City Centre. A very enjoyable walk too.
"We had a great stay!"
Perfect for 3 people. Kitchen had every utensil possible! We hope to return someday.
"A lovely house in a quiet position and within easy walking distance to Chester and other shops and eating places."
The house had everything you could possibly need, was comfortable and exceptionally clean and the owner most obliging with help when needed. Thank you. Two senior citizens
"Certainly the best holiday cottage we have stayed in and we cannot recommend it enough."
A super place to come back to after a day of sightseeing and with the bonus of your own parking space.
"Canal View Cottage was even better than we’d expected."
Immaculately clean and fitted with top quality appliances and facilities. The cottage’s canal side situation makes for a lovely relaxing walk into Chester with lots to see on the way.
"Hi I use self catering accommodation all over uk This is the most equipped house kitchen and cooking utensils excellent two bedrooms both en-suite to high standard beds and sheets pillows all top end ."
Lounge comfortable good tv music off street parking good communication well worth 5
"My friend and I were delighted with this cottage, it is totally immaculate in every respect - very comfortable and extremely well equipped, the friendly owners contacted us personally which was very helpful."
The super Waitrose store a short walk away is a bonus. It is a pleasant leisurely stroll into Chester by the canal and more rural countryside in the opposite direction. The only downside is there are no views from the cottage but the quality of the accommodation compensates for this. I recommend this highly and would definitely book it again.
"The cottage was fantastic."
he was comfy and and had everything we could wish for. It is a perfect place for exploring Chester and surrounding areas. the owners kept us fully informed of the building works that are currently taking place next door but they didn’t disturb us at all. great place for friends and family and well worth a visit.
"House was very pleasant, well equipped and clean."
Lot's of thought had been given to providing good quality equipment and fittings and appliances. In a good location for visiting lots of places.
"This cottage was perfect for us."
The location close to the canal was brilliant for us as we could walk (and run) along the path really easily, and also meant that we could get out into North Wales too (before the lockdown hit!) The cottage literally has everything you could wish for, the standard of furnishings and equipment is superb, the owners were great at communicating regarding access etc. Please don't let the mention of building work on the adjacent land put you off, it was no bother at all. We will not hesitate to return.
"Beautiful house, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, well equipped, convenient for walking into city or to the river, lots of restaurants nearby and just a six minute walk to Waitrose!"
"Ideally located for a short walk into Chester but if you are just wanting to chill out the cottage has such a homely feel with lovely decor that you can enjoy just cooking and relaxing."
Will be back again for a walk along the canal which is literally on the doorstep and is fascinating watching the canalboats go through the locks and there are a couple of restuarants/bars further along the canal side as you approach Chester. lovely place.
"Cottage was in a good location for the City, Canal and River."
Well equipped and clean with measures in place for the current situation. Would happily return.
"The cottage had everything thing we needed."
The listing didn't do it justice. It was super clean, really comfortable and we just relaxed the moment we stepped through the door. From the master bedroom we could open our curtains, sit in bed with our morning coffee and watch life on the canal. It was a delight. It's a lovely short walk into the centre of Chester along the canal. There's lots to see and do in Chester and the surrounding it area. I'd happily stay again.
"I came here last October wirh a friend and enjoyed the house & area so much I came back with my husband in March for our anniversary week."
Luckily it was just before lockin so set us up for stayiing in. We walked everywhere, had lovely meals in Chester and Hoole and were lucky with the weather. We particularly enjoyed the zoo and seeing the baby elephant was lovely. The house is amazing;y well fitted out, the best selfcatering house I have ever been, and I've been to a lot. It was clean and comfortable and everything you could possibly want was already there. Thank you so much.
"The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable."
There was peasant easy access (15 min walk) into Chester along the canal and Waitrose was 5 mins on canal path with cafe and pub a few yards further on.
"Canal View Cottage is a lovely home to stay in Chester."
A very comfortable, cosy, well equipped home, in fact as soon as we stepped inside the property we felt at home. The beds were so comfortable and both having en-suite shower was absolute bliss. First time of visiting Chester and really enjoyed our stay. City centre 10/15 mins walk along canal or road. Spoilt for choice on places to eat. A lovely friendly area. Would have no problem in recommending this property for a stay in for a visit to Chester. Owners are welcoming and can be contacted easily if needed.
"The dining facilities for four people was very cramped."
Parking for a second car was difficult. Otherwise the cottage was very well equipped and fitted out and a credit to the owners.
"The house was all we expected and more."
Extremely well equipped and good location. Very nicely decorated and good sized television. Small minus points lounge seating awkward for four adults and kitchen table small but manageable. Didn’t spoil anything would definitely return.
"The Cottage was fabulous, very welcoming, warm and cosy."
My Wife and I had a terrific relaxing week and cosy nights in. The wide range of Sky/BT/Netflix meant that there was entertainment on tap when we were in. The walk in shower was fantastic and the bedrooms were really comfortable with large wall to ceiling wardrobes. We could wander into Chester in 10 - 15 minutes, you can also follow the canal right into the centre. I would definitely recommend and we both said that we intend to book another week there!
"Really enjoyed the walks along the canal only a short walk into centre of Chester ."
The beds were great and the house very comfortable. Had invited some friends to stay for 2 nignts were so coffortable stayed for 4..
"I totally agree with all the good points in the previous reviews with the exception of the sky tv."
It kept asking for a sky card and would only show Free view channels.
"So many times I have arrived at a holiday home and been disappointed that the property was not as good as I had imagined it to be or the pictures had led me to believe."
This was not the case with Canal View Cottage. Without doubt this cottage is the best holiday home we have visited. Everything exceeded our expectations. The cottage was exceptionally clean and well cared for. Downstairs, although not huge was comfortable with enough seating and the kitchen was well equipped with enough crockery, equipment and cutlery to host a dinner party. The bathrooms had very good showers and were also clean and fresh The bedrooms were large with plenty of storage and with very comfortable beds (and It's the only place I have ever visited with enough coat hangers!!!) The location is also perfect as it is only a short bus journey or walk into the centre of Chester but there are also restaurants, bars and Waitrose very close by. I would definately recommend this cottage and when if I visit Chester again this would be my first choice of accommodation.
"Our second visit and hope more to come."
The cottage is in a ideal spot we just love it.
"The house was comfortable, quiet and immaculate and the owners were accessible and sorted our issue immediately - ie that we couldn't figure out the Sky television set up!"
"Canal View Cottage is beautifully presented with all the facilities one could wish for."
Clearly the owners have gone to a great deal of care and attention in providing information and facilities. It is situated within very easy walking distance of Chester centre. Certainly a place we would wish to return to.
"We have been using self catering properties all over the UK for the past 30 years (long before internet holidays!"
) and have a good idea what to expect. What we didnt expect with Canal View Cottage was to feel like it was our own home! From the first minute you walk through the door you can tell it is a much loved home, rather than just an empty shell of a home and that feeling stays with you the entire stay. Everything is provided, in fact there is practically nothing they do not have (except a shaver socket which would be the only "criticsm" we would have and we coped without it) and everything is top quality too! Excellent recycling facilities too which was very refrshing (granted that is the council, but we have stayed in properties who didnt bother to tell us what to recycle). The location was perfect, access to the canal in just 1 minute, Waitrose and Tesco in walking distance and is centre of Chester itself. If you ever sold the property we would move in we loved it that much!
"Canal View Cottage was exceptional in every way."
We could hardly believe the equipment in the kitchen with every possible thing we would ever need and also the standard of appliances, modern and up-to-date in every way. The shower in the main en suite was so good it was hard to get out of it and the bed was conducive to sleeping in really late. The television was excellent and we were so pleased to have pay television so we could watch so many programs, including the exciting 3rd Ashes Test. The position so near the canal and just a short walk into Chester was great yet it was quiet area to live in. We can not recommend this cottage highly enough and congratulate the owners for supplying such a comfortable, convenient and delightful place to stay. We hope very much to be back one day.
"This holiday home is lovely."
Very comfortable and clean with everything you could possibly need. The canal is just at the end of the road and it is a very pleasant walk along the path into Chester. The owners should be commended for their attention to detail in providing a cottage so well equipped and nicely decorated.
"The actual cottage itself was absolutely lovely with everything well set out and well appointed."
Just a short walk into Chester it was exceptional. However there was one thing that we felt was not right. The cottage is called canal view and although it did not say in the description, I was expecting to be able to see the canal from the cottage and had hoped that it may even be located on the side of the canal, but unfortunately you cannot see the canal from the cottage unless you are on tip toes in one of the upstairs bedrooms.
"This holiday home was the best we have been to."
Everything about it was good. Details provided and accuracy of information was excellent. The house was spotlessly clean, extremely well equipped and numbers provided in case there were any problems - which of course there were none. Each bedroom has an en-suite and there are also downstairs facilities. The house is located by the canal and it is a lovely walk into the city with great little pub/restaurants along the way. Two supermarkets close by. The city itself has good shops and is lively with lots to do and see. The Museums are free or inexpensive and very interesting. Great walks on the city walls and down by the river and amphitheatre. We also went into Liverpool by one of the frequent and inexpensive trains and spent a day on the Beatles trail. My son is a biker so he went off to the Delamare Forest for the day and also to North Wales for biking. All in all a very comfortable house for a great holiday.
"The cottage was extremely well decorated and fitted out."
It is well placed just 10mins walk to the city centre. On the down side it is not as big as it appears from the photographs. You have to move the dining table out to use it and there is still barely room for 4 people to sit around it. Similarly the L shaped sofa is not really sufficient for 4 people.
"This cottage met our expectations for its location as we found it was just what we wanted within a short walk you had everything at hand."
The comfort and layout and cleanliness was also very good. The only thing that was missing was the canal view there are no views at all from the cottage it is enclosed by surrounding walls, but this did not spoil it for us as we were very comfortable in the cottage and you could not do anything about the weather as it rained and rained all the time.We will certainly book this cottage again and hope the weather next June is like the year before. To sum it up although the weather was bad the cottage was in the best location which helped shame the name is misleading as a canal view would have been good.
"It was a superb cottage , with everything you could want"
"Lovely location for us to explore, loved being close to canal for walks and getting into Town the cottage had everything we needed,."
the thing we would have found usefull was taxi cards also recommended places to eat.
"Lovely property - everything worked perfectly."
No outdoor space to speak of other than a small bit of courtyard space by the backdoor, outdoor chairs in shed. Excellent position. Very quiet although quite central. 5 mins walk from Waitrose and about 10-15 mins into the town centre, both straight down the canal path.
"Lovely location brilliant access to Chester by short Canal Walk"
"Great place to stay."
All you need to a high standard. Near all amenities. Had a good time, but had to leave early because of home problems. Would go back
"We’ve just returned from a fantastic week at Canal View Cottage."
Although we arrived late in the evening, the keys were easy to collect, so we didn’t have to worry about arriving at a particular time. The cottage was a real home from home - warm, bright and comfortable, spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed....and more. If we had forgotten to bring anything, you could be pretty sure that we would find the item in one of the drawers... stationery, phone charger, umbrella, food bags....we have never stayed anywhere so well equipped! Comfortable beds, wonderful showers, quiet neighbourhood...perfect! Chester city centre was a short, pleasant walk away, along a wide canal tow path so the car spent most of the time parked in the parking space next to the house. Will we come back? Yes, I’m sure we will.

About the location
Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.
Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
