  • "Lovely house about 15 mins walk from the centre of Chester."

Really liked the upside down configuration and the sitting area / kitchen was the best part of the house, really relaxed space. Everything slightly smaller than I was expecting from the photos - but fine.

  • "The house was very clean and comfortable, suited us well and was in a good location for walking into the city and getting out and about."

Please pass on our thanks for the Prosecco, biscuits, tea and coffee, they were appreciated - a minor detail, milk would have been useful too. We'd all come a long way and not brought milk for that much needed cuppa. Our negative points would be - one towel per person is mean, and the bed linen would benefit from being ironed!!! Lack of coat hangars, though plenty of hooks. The bathroom in the cupboard was difficult for us to use, but an excellent use of space for those who are contortionists. A bit too much unnecessary clutter. We all enjoyed our stay in Chester and it's a place to re-visit, thank you to the Sykes team for their help.

  • "Lovely holiday home."

Comfortable beds, gorgeous bathroom, clean throughout. Great views from the top floor. 10-15 min walk to the centre of Chester. Parking a little tight but plenty of spots on the road. Lots of mirrors for those who are a little self conscious! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Great location, and great views from the sitting room on the top floor. Fantastic value for money.

The outside spaces were well used for relaxing in the afternoon sun.

  • "Overall a comfortable stay, lovely location to the city and beautiful views."

Unfortunately kitchen was not stocked sufficient for such a large house, or as well as other sykes cottages that we have stayed in. Shortages of teaspoons (only 3), broken and worn out frying pans, no basics provided at all for cooking (oil etc). Internet very temperamental especially in the late afternoon and evening. TV kept losing signal and buffering because of this. No hairdryer although the host did offer to buy one once informed.

  • "We had a lovely week at Ivy Cottage ."

Meg was so helpful. The welcome of procecco and biscuits with a personal card was a very nice welcome. The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was a delight. Very close to town 15 minutes walk , Waitrose is 10 minutes , and a great pub across the road. Ivy Cottage is vey homely and comfortable I would definately reccommend a stay. This is my 6th time using Skyes in 10 months .

  • "Ivy cottage is a wonderful property in a great location and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

Previous reviews had criticised things like lack of cleaning materials & frivolous matters like too much clutter in the living area & a tight parking space which is really unfair. Ivy cottage compares favourably with many properties we have stayed in both here & abroad. The open plan top floor & wonderful views make us think it may be worth a return visit in the summer as the proximity to the river & indeed the town would be even better in the sunshine. We loved the local pub as well & won't hesitate to recommend to our friends...Thanks once again to Meg for a fantastic stay !

  • "The Cottage was great."

We all had a good time and the main bedroom, bed was soooo comfy. Almost to the point where i would like to ask she got it from?????????!! The cottage was very clean which was really nice to see. I will be staying here again for sure. Oh PS i think it was because of the rain and cold at the time over christmas when we were there but I would like to flag with the owner that the front gate after the entry code was inputted once the handle was turned the gate was very stiff and got stuck when trying to open. The only way of getting in was to unfortunately give it a good shove. I think it was because of the wet and the wood maybe could have swelled or dropped slightly. BUT thats all!! Kind Regards, Spencer

  • "Beautifully decorated house with great outside space nice road to be on with quick access to a river walk."

welcome package including biscuits and prosseco was a lovely surprise ! Slightly too many accessories, coffee tables, cluttering the living room area, and sofa. Not particularly comfy as the base cushions slide off . Owner was very attentive and helpful.

We found everything to be as expected and comfortable. It is a great location with views out over Chester and the river and is a straightforward walk into the centre as well as to food shops. The property was clean and welcoming and we would definitely come again for a weekend away!

  • "Although kitchen and bathroom was modern ."

. the bedroom furniture is very old and falling apart.. too much clutter ... and too many scatter cushions ..especially in bedrooms ... courtyard needs attention ... going by photo on website .. expected a better view of the river... getting out of parking space takes bit of skill .. as you have to reverse out onto quite a busy road ... p s. The property had plug in air fresheners in almost every socket .. had to turn them all off as the smell was too over powering......

  • "We found the cottage to be quite dirty in places, and in need of some redecoration/maintenance."

We thought for self catering there should have been more basic items present, for example there were no toilet rolls, or a tin opener! The road outside the cottage was noisy all day, even with the windows closed. The parking space stretched my reversing skills to the limit, a large 4x4 type vehicle would not fit!

  • "Strongly recommend that black out blinds/curtains are put in the main double bedroom on the 2nd floor."

The curtains were so light that sun light streamed in from the very early hours. With the very noise road outside and neighbours on the balcony to the side of the property it was not a great place to stay to get a good night's sleep.

  • "Well equipped kitchen, lots of hot water, bright living area with nice decor and furnishings but ."

.. Downstairs shower room was very small, uncomfortable to use and was always damp with condensation, One bath towel per person for one whole week was inadequate and 2 hand towels for 6 people is very unsatisfactory. Although there was a washer/dryer this hardly compensated. No hanging space in either of the downstairs bedrooms, Outside terraces need spruced up. Single parking space provided was a challenge to access

About the location

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
