  • "Perfect size cottage in a great location."

For us within an hour or less drive to areas we wished to visit for coastal and mountainous walks. Appreciated having the full week rather than our planned weekend! Given useful information to find the property and getting the key on day one was easy. We had a lovely time away.

  • "We loved the cottage."

It was cosy, welcoming, well equipped and very peaceful. The underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom was great, the bed comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The log burner was easy to light and warmed the whole house. We were also impressed with the outside lighting which came on automatically and made it easy to find the car in the dark. The location is fantastic with great views - very peaceful but well placed for outings. All in all, we had a great time.

  • "We arrived late on a Friday afternoon, we had a look around the cottage and was disappointed with our first impressions."

The first thing noted was the condition of the cooker top was dirty looking. We set about cleaning the c00ker top as best we were able. We then decided to inspect the bedroom and was really upset, the bed appeared to look clean but when we pulled the throw back there was several woodlice in between the sheets! we removed the bed sheets and noted a stain on the sheets and pillow. The issues with the woodlice did not improved. There were other items noted, one of the chairs was broken, the toilet seat was not secure, to try and resolve the woodlice issue we moved the bed and noted that the floor area below the bed was disgusting. There was a travel trunk in the living room which we moved to retrieve a pack of playing cards and it was also noted that the area had not been need cleaned. WE WOULD APPRECIATE THE OPPERTUNITY TO DISCUSS THESE ISSUES WITH THE OWNERS PRIOR TO DECIDING TO PUBLISH OR NOT PUBLISH OUR REVIEW.

  • "A great little cottage with character and history."

Beautifully views and everything you would possibly want to do within easy reach by car. There was a dedicated grass and shrub garden a few yards from the cottage which could be used by the little house occupants with great views. Including front and back gravelled small garden with a washing line. There was a nice little kitchen with underfloor heating and items needed for your stay. Owner was very friendly and we're the family and were happy to help in any way. Open fire which was lovely in the evening and a couple of heaters as secondary heating. The bed was comfortable and had a skylight and old fashioned furniture which went with the character of the building. There is a field to run your dog when sheep are not present. I would stay at the little house again as it was quiet and remote but lots of interesting places by car and just what me and my dog Bruno needed. Just to get away for a week. Thankyou

  • "This cottage is in a convenient location for sightseeing, however there are few dog friendly walks nearby, unless you want to go into sheep fields."

The cottage needs a good clean, especially under the bed and could do with upgrades on the sofa, chair, table and chairs and a larger TV with a full range of channels would be an improvement. The bathroom lacks a toilet roll holder and shower curtain needs replacing. The freezer needs defrosting and the fridge door needs adjustment as sometimes does not stay closed. The stairs should have some sort of tread grip/carpet to avoid slipping. The road access was tricky to enable safe exit, a mirror on opposite side would alleviate the problem.

Ideal size for someone travelling on her own, even my cat loved it. Gorgeous views, beautiful house well appointed and very clean. It was such a pleasure staying there and I must confess it was hard to leave. Very friendly owner who knows a lot about the history of the house and of the area. Ideally located for both Harlech and Porthmadog. Simply wonderful holiday and really hoping to be back soon. Thank you for having us.

  • "Little House is a lovely cosy little cottage with a roaring log fire to welcome you!"

It is small in size but big in character and as we live in a cottage ourselves, it is 'home from home' for us. This was our second visit and we still love it and will be back! The only problem we had was the hot water being very intermittent, but as we've already reported this I'm sure the landlord will have had it fixed by now. Also the shower head and hose are poorly positioned in the shower cubicle so it's a little difficult to get under the flow of water - it needs re-positioning further along the wall to the left of the electric shower unit. But this is 'nit picking' - it's a wonderful old cottage and suits country folk like us, but maybe if you're a city-slicker looking for glossy contemporary perfection, it may not be for you.

  • "I would say that this cottage was adequate and a good place to sleep but that was about it!"

Starting with the positives, it was easy to find, directions were great and it is off a main road so no winding down roads for ages to get to it which is great after a long drive. The bed was also very comfortable! There was plenty of cups, plates etc. and having a fridge and facilities to make your own food was great (especially as there isn't any where within walking distance to eat). WiFi was good (and necessary as didn't have a phone signal at the house) Now onto the negatives... The whole house smelt of damp! It needs a really good airing. The people before us had clearly had the oil heaters on or the log burner but not aired the house properly as we could not shift the smell and it was embedded in the soft furnishings. The bathroom downstairs as well isn't the best. The shower has really low pressure and the angle is almost impossible to wash your hair and I am only 5ft 1 so you can imagine by husband struggled who is 6ft. We also found a bowl of rotting vegetables and salad in one of the kitchen draws which gave me reservations about how well the house was actually cleaned before we got there and promptly proceeded to anti-bac everything (with wipes i had brought myself). I also felt there was a lot of unnecessary "stuff" in the kitchen which with covid made me uneasy. Whilst it looked nice having a dresser with cups etc. and it was great to have plenty of cutlery etc. it really isn't necessary and I think they should strip things back to basics and then make sure they provide anti bac to wipe surfaces down etc. and it would make me feel more confident about the cleanliness of the house. The water also tasted funny which meant we went out to buy bottled water. I also think the TV could have been bigger and possible have DVD player or access to netflix. I also think the host could have been more organised with their welcome booklet offering advise on places to eat/drink/shop etc. I know you could argue that we could google it (which we did) but little things like that are what usually set the sykes cottages apart from staying in a hotel that you really feel well looked after! In summary if I had paid £60-£90 a night for this I would have been alright with the price but we paid £934.00 for 4 nights which frankly was a total rip off!

  • "We had a wonderful holiday, the cottage was lovely and the owner went above what I expected, there we’re flowers on the windowsill, milk in the fridge and a pack of Welsh cakes left for us."

We used the log burner and there was no problem getting more wood. We met the owner near the end of our stay and he was really happy to show us around and told us about the work that was done to keep the property as close to it’s original look. If you’re looking for a sweet traditional building to stay in ,this is the place to go, there is also a bigger house that sleeps seven, I would recommend this place 100%. Lovely holiday.

  • "This property is in dire need of investment, maintenance and a deep clean."

Its a shame, as the location and views over the estuary are lovely, its quiet, and the bed was comfy. The list of issues encompassed a broken TV and DVD player (replaced after 5 days), damp and black mould on the living room wall, grubby furnishings (seats and sofa), broken fittings (external light not working), panel on base of shower broken off, sliding door to bathroom needs properly fixing, rusty garden seats and table, trim on kitchen drawer, broken and dingy crockery/cookware (broken corkscrew), stained tea towels, duvet needs a clean, the bathroom needs a heated towel rail, a drying rack needed for washing, cobwebs, and dirt and dust behind the TV. This list of issues blighted our stay here.

  • "This cottage could have been perfect!"

!! The positives were the cosiness due to the log burner, the comfortable bed and the beautiful views, garden and surroundings. However, this cottage needs some money spending on it to bring it up to standard. The scatter cushions on the sofa were ripped, the chairs in the bedroom were stained, too much shabby chic, damp showing on the walls, vacuum cleaner that needed emptying left in the lounge, too much mismatched crockery in fact too much mismatched everything. Cleanliness wasn't great either.

It was so beautiful, both inside and out. The grounds were stunning and we were lucky enough to sit out in the garden and enjoy the sunshine. Little House was decorated beautifully and really felt warm and cosy. The wood burner was an added bonus to come back to each night. For me, the sofa was a little uncomfortable but that is personal preference. Other than that, the house was perfect.

  • "Comfortable cottage in a great location."

Very comfy bed but some of the kitchen equipment was not of such good standard and water was scalding hot! We had no power on the first night (no fault of the owner who managed to sort the problem) but spent our first evening in candle light worrying that our fridge full of food would be ruined in the heat. Superb base for exploring the coastline and Snowdonia.
