  • "Clean on the surface but when you start looking under beds or moving furniture it is thick in months old dust."

The beds were not very comfortable. Customers with large cars should be warned on how narrow the drive is and how precarious it is to exit entry the property as cars parked opposite driveway making it difficult. There needs to be a few modifications for elderly or disabled people especially navigating the stairs to and from the upstairs bathrooms.

Ok-it definitely sounds like Bodhyfryd was not the right fit for you and I'm sorry you weren't able to determine that from the listing. It's an 1840 stone cottage with narrow steep stairs, low doorways, traditional exposed woodwork, etc. It's in a village that has changed remarkably little since the eighteenth century and that has narrow lanes lined with tiny cottages. Loads of character, but things are definitely smaller and a tighter fit in Capelulo. Better luck with your next selection! Property Owner

Great base for exploring Snowdonia. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, thank you.

We enjoyed the area very much but were always happy to return to this quiet oasis. On our excursions when we could tear ourselves away.

  • "Lovely centrally placed accommodation with lovely outdoor space."

The cottage was on the whole well equipped, although it was short of some kitchen desirables, e.g only one tea towel was made available, a couple of extras would have been nice, and did appear a little light on serving bowls, but I am being exceptionally picky. The accommodation was perfect, plenty of space for our group of five staying, with enough areas to allow everyone some quiet when/if needed. Really loved our visit, would recommend if you love quirky, period cottages and will definitely visit again.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll grab a few more bowls for the cottage next time I'm there. Property Owner

  • "On the whole the perfect cottage to stay in."

Large but still cosey. The hosts have provided a well equipped holiday home with lots of antique and comfortable furniture. Only 2 negatives there is only one shower for a place that can sleep 6 but you do have the luxury of a Jacuzzi bath. There are however 3 toilets. The other negative is getting in and out of the property can be difficult due to the neighbours parking their van if we had brought our bigger car there would have been times we could not have left. The hosts have provided well detailed files on what to do in the area and there is a washing machine & separate dryer for those rainy days when you get wet. WiFi can be intermittent in the house due to its thick stone walls but this can be a bonus with teens. The hosts also provide some wood so you can enjoy a roaring log fire on a cold evening. The outside area is a pleasure to sit in and you can hear the water of the nearby river flowing past. Great location for castles, beaches and beautiful walks.

Thanks so much for the review! In terms of the parking, after the first couple of years, I just started parking over the road instead of in the driveway. Not only can it be awkward maneuvering around other cars, but some drivers come flying down the road into the village at high speed, so it's more comfortable to just park over the road with better visibility up the road. So that's what I would recommend if you visit us again. Property Owner

  • "Bodhyfryd : One of our new favourite places on earth."

Situated in the old ward of Capelulo in my home village of Penmaenmawr, this stunning traditional cottage was our home from home. Bodhyfryd translates to “Something Lovely” or a “Lovely Place”; it truly is. The location is beautiful , picturesque, peaceful, close enough to activities and amenities yet far enough from the hustle and bustle to disconnect completely. We crammed in so much on our holiday, yet we would all be happy to have spent another week just staying at this beautiful house and enjoying its unique character. A mix of a totally traditional Welsh mountain cottage with just enough modern accompaniment to make it extremely comfortable. From the kitchen and bathrooms to Hive Heating to take off the chill in the evenings. The cottage is dated… But that’s what we expected… it feels a bit like living in a National Trust Manor House. There are tapestries, copper and bronze ornaments, old tables, chairs, book cases and a chess board (which the kids played with more than the Xbox!). Every time we walked around the house we found something new and unique. Loved it! Most mornings and most evenings we spent time together in the large sitting room. reading from the huge selection of books there or chatting about our day. Ems and Martha spent some mornings in the small drawing room at the large table which is perfect for kids colouring. And then we had a couple of TV nights and chess nights in the “Games Room” as we called it. The TV is a Samsung Smart TV which has freeview and internet connection so if you have Netflix or Disney etc you can connect (just remember to disconnect before you leave

Thank you so much for taking the trouble to write such a detailed review and our hearts are warmed that you had a great time. We love Capelulo so much, and we're glad you were able to share in it this way. Property Owner

This house was a big part of what made it special for us. So many interesting and lovely things that made it home for us, just for those few days. We loved the outdoor space and the firepit, and the walks into the hillside right from the front door. A real gem of a place. Many thanks

  • "We can recommend Conwy and a visit to the Tudor manor although there Plas Manor is well worth it they also sell the beautiful tapestries you can see many examples of in Bodhyfryd."

Bodnant gardens is of course well worth a visit. Llanfairfechan is also worth a wander. We most enjoyed our day in Llanwrst and a visit to Gwydir Castle which is totally amazing and the story attached to the house and written by the present lady of the house. Castles are in the air is amazing. They are just an ordinary couple who decided to save this amazing house. A personal thank you to the owners of Bodhyfryd for letting this special place for holidays. I will be quite sad to leave and must remember to say goodbye to the friendly little robin. Most definitely be back. Thank you

  • "What a disappointment!"

The cottage was in a lovely location with lots of things to do locally, the garden a real delight; the cottage itself was grubby. Beautiful antiques/tapestries covered in dust, rooms not clean, crumpled sheets etc etc Welcome pack was 2 months out of date. We sent photos to Sykes and then again to Menai - the whole process was extremely difficult. They did send cleaners twice but alas their cleaning wasnt terribly thorough, the dust in the living rooms and bedrooms remained. We left a day early. A lovely house with great space alas not well looked after.

Wow - so sorry to hear you had that experience. You were the first booking in several months (presumably due to the UK economic situation) but I'm really sorry the cleaners were not on top of the resulting dust before your arrival. I'm hear myself now at the end of June and it looks great so it seems Menai corrected it. Property Owner

  • "A beautiful cottage in stunning scenery."

Very comfortable, a home from home. Just a pity the pub nearby didn’t allow dogs inside as it was too chilly to eat outside. We braved it for drinks and ate in as the cottage was very well equipped. Very calming garden and pretty grotto to enjoy in warm weather.

Yes, it's a shame the Fairy Glen doesn't allow dogs. For future reference, the Ty Gwyn Hotel in Rowen allows dogs, and has fantastic character and excellent food - our favorite pub in the area. And Rowen is an incredibly pretty village well worth strolling around. Property Owner
