The accommodation was perfect for walking in the local area and visiting Shrewsbury. The owners made us very welcome (with home-made scones) and attended to a minor issue very promptly. Thank you. The only minor negative point was that internet connectivity was sometimes poor.

Excellent facilities provided (nice bedding and towels, lots of kitchen equipment etc). Beds were very comfortable, we all slept brilliantly with how dark the rooms were at night. I would perhaps not recommend for families with really young children with the sets of stairs up to each bedroom.

  • "All really good, except for the bizarre water taps in kitchen and utility which operate in the opposite way to most taps including those in the upstairs bathrooms."

Combined with the pressurised water system, I think that all of our party got a soaking at some point by inadvertantly turning a tap full-on. Oh, and the squeaky door hinges that most holiday cottages seem to have.

The property is well presented and equipped, it really is a home from home. The beds were super comfy as were the reclining sofa/chairs! Jackie and James were great hosts, friendly and helpful and have 2 lovely dogs who were always there to greet us when we returned each day along with an amusing 'gang' of chickens! There is so much to do in the area, we managed to keep our 19 and 18 year olds amused for a week!

  • "This is a very well equipped and comfortable cottage."

Be aware that because of the shape of the bedrooms, which I have to say are both beautiful with high ceilings and beams on show, there aren't any wardrobes. There is a hanging area which is fine for a weeks holiday and heaps of drawer space, so for us this wasn't a problem. Maybe take a few hangers of your own. The surrounding area is a delight and Shrewsbury was a really pleasant surprise with lot's and lovely places to eat and things to do. The park and ride is excellent and something you should consider.

  • "We had a super weekend at Chatford Roost."

The barn conversion is beautiful and the property itself is probably the best equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. You really can walk right from the front doorstep, if that's your thing. For a local walk try Lyth Hill, for lovely views across the valley, but walk from Church Stretton for the most stunning scenery from the Long Mynd and Carding Mill Valley. A lovely place for a few days away from it all.

Nearest pubs are a drive away. There are great places to visit within 30 minutes drive. Shrewsbury has great architecture and lots of independent shops, as does Ludlow. A visit to Ironbridge is also worth the effort although the bridge is undergoing renovations at the moment and is surrounded by scaffold and tarpaulin. If I was to nit pick, this is a farm and the flies are plentiful but there were lots of cobwebs to catch them!

Jackie, the owner was great to turn this around so fast for us. The barn was clean, and relaxing, so much room as well, with both bedrooms with ensuites too. It’s not far from Shrewsbury town centre which we visited in the day for food and drinks, we also had a Chinese one night that delivered too! So it was a great location for all our needs, and Jackie was on hand when we needed her, ( I ran out of dishwasher tablets, and she popped some over!) The property

Shrewsbury 5 miles.

A delightful, Grade II listed barn conversion located adjacent to a quiet working livestock farm, in the tiny hamlet of Chatford, 2.5 miles from Bayston Hill, in the popular county of Shropshire.

This former agricultural brick-built barn, dating back to the 1830s, has been lovingly restored into a pretty, welcoming cottage, set in an idyllic rural location.

Beautifully renovated, the cottage offers modern open plan living downstairs, ideal for families or couples looking to explore this area.

Entering into the stylish fitted kitchen you will immediately be taken by the cosy, well-equipped accommodation, with the dining room centrally located in a high galleried hallway, with A frame beams set in the wall.

The sitting area has further exposed beams, an external stable door and a warming characterful woodburner recessed in a small inglenook fireplace; perfect for relaxing on the reclining chairs and warming your toes in front of the glowing embers.

Upstairs, off the mezzanine half-landing, two separate staircases lead to a double bedroom and a twin room with zip/link beds that can be converted to make a super king-size room if required.

Both bedrooms benefit from en-suite facilities and have a TV/DVD.

Outside, there is parking in a courtyard, a lawned area and an outbuilding where bikes can be safely stored.

There is a wealth of walking opportunities with numerous footpaths leading through the 100 acres of farm land, offering unspoilt trails from the doorstep, and joining up with the Shropshire Way within a mile.

The Stiperstones and the Stretton Hills provide further rambling opportunities, plus for cyclists, there is the bonus of National Cycle Route 44 passing close by.

The delights of the historic market town of Shrewsbury are just a short drive away, and Telford with its famous Ironbridge Gorge should not be missed off your itinerary.

This is a superb character cottage in a wonderful holiday location.
