  • "A great property for our family party of five - all adults!"

Loved the cheerful colours - a bright and welcoming home. Well equipped and with some surprising extras like torches near the beds and a welcome pack. Comfortable beds and space in each of the bedrooms was a bonus, and the availability of two good showers was great. Considering it was March, we were lucky to be able to use the conservatory - an ideal place for reading and chatting in the sun. Having space to park 3 cars was one of the reasons we chose this particular property and we appreciated the sensible porch with space for muddy boots on our walking days. We made two lovely walks from the house - Carding Mill Valley and Caer Caradoc and did not have far to drive for the Stiperstones. We also visited Ironbridge for the day and enjoyed Shrewsbury for sightseeing and a little retail therapy. Thank you to our hosts for a lovely week.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay at the Jays and everything that is required is in place."

There is a well-purposed kitchen, a dining area and a comfortable, spacious lounge which looks over a pretty garden and the park beyond. The bedrooms provide a relaxing space although the decor and bedding could be updated. There is ample parking. The location is fabulous, with views all around and the Long Mynd, Caer Caradoc and other fine walks on the doorstep. We loved the pubs and cafes, all being a short stroll away in the town and surrounding 'Stretton' villages.

  • "The Jays was perfect for our group walking week."

The house was lovely and clean, spacious and just a short walk to the town over the playing fields. An outside tap was much appreciated to clean our muddy boots and the porch, wood flooring was geared up for walkers. We enjoyed sitting in the conservatory after our walks and it was a very quiet area. Can recommend the deli in town for cakes to bring home after your walks!

Thank you so much. We're glad you had such a good time and to know that you felt that The Jays is so well-suited to people enjoying walking holidays. We certainly agree about the cakes from the deli! :0) Property Owner

It had all the facilities we needed and the cleanliness and comfort was impeccable. I was born and bred in the area, and it provided the ideal location for exploring my old haunts - which have not changed that much in 60 years! Thanks too for providing a high chair for our one year old granddaughter. A brilliant experience all round!

Ah - thank you so much! We're glad to know you had such a great holiday reliving old memories of Shropshire - and making some new ones. Thanks again for your feedback :0) Property Owner

  • "Lovely house, very clean and everything we needed for a short self catering stay."

Nice and warm and was so good to have pillows that were soft - I cannot tell you how many other properties we’ve been too where this most basic comfort is overlooked. The children LOVED the field directly outside the garden gate. We saw 3 red kites hovering and swooping over the field, lots of tiny garden birds too. The village is walking distance and we liked the coffee house, plus Cardingmill Valley and Long Mynd on the doorstep.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad you had a great time and we're very happy that the children enjoyed playing in the field. It's certainly good to see the red kites around in such abundance now. They are a real triumph for the conservation and wildlife people! Thanks again :0) Property Owner

Our only criticism is that we found the gas fire very difficult to light and being the middle of winter….. House is in a great position and very nicely furnished with a large well equipped kitchen.

Thank you for your feedback. We hope to welcome you back here again soon! Rest assured that we have made steps to ensure that the house is cosy and warm for future guests :0) Property Owner

The living/dining room was spacious and the kitchen well equipped including a dishwasher. The beds were very comfortable with good quality linen and both bathrooms had excellent showers. Internet was 24 Mbps. The owners clearly make a lot of effort to make guests welcome as was demonstrated by the fresh flowers, milk and cookies provided for when we arrived. We enjoyed staying there and it's a great base from which to explore Shropshire.

The location is ideal, with all of the hill walking over the Long Mynd and the Burway only ten minutes away. We caught the shuttle bus in Church Stretton, which can drop you off at The Stiperstones, where there were plenty of amenities. Walking around Rectory Wood was lovely. The accommodation was also very clean with comfortable beds. Very much enjoyed the peace and quiet - highly recommend and would go again.

  • "Enjoyed our stay and may rebook in the future."

A couple of things that were not worth mentioning whilst we had 5 nights there: * internet is slow. We ran a speed test and the property is getting 1mb download, so something is wrong. Perhaps contact Shell, as it affected bbc iPlayer. * some small additions to the kitchen would be welcome. Tinfoil, clingfilm, tupperware, cooking oil, multiple tea towels, scissors, baking trays * oven is old and could do with replacement. The main oven Fan didn’t work to start with until I manually moved it with a plastic rod! * the coffee table is very sticky. Not sure if someone has used the wrong varnish on it? * There are paint splashes in the downstairs sink and windowsill * cotton bedding would be appreciated- the polyester covers were hot and scratchy * the bath seal popped off when we had a bath. Same happened to ours at home and we were told the seal should have been added to a fully laden bath, then allowed to cure. Maybe helpful for you? * your water pressure is amazing! We loved that. * garden was smaller than the photos showed, but the gate to the field was great for us. If we knew there was a playground there too, we would have booked faster! Perhaps add that to your listing for parents? * Carpets were knew and lovely, but generally we felt like we stayed in someone’s home who had added a few new furnishings/items. Ot didn’t have a holiday home feel but for 5nights we were happy.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you enjoyed your stay. We are disappointed that you didn't mention the points you have raised directly to us while you were staying as we could have addressed most of them straight away to make sure your holiday was as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. That is, after all, what we aim to do! However, we have very recently listed this property and we want to make it as comfortable as possible for our guests and we are grateful for your observations and suggestions for improvement. We have responded as follows: * Our internet provider has confirmed a fault with their equipment and this has now been dealt with, so future guests will have no problem with download speed. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. * All suggested kitchen additions are now in place - together with other goodies to welcome our guests! * The oven is now in good working order and has caused no further problems. * The coffee table has been dealt with. I think you are right about the mix of varnish! :0/ * The tiny paint splashes have been removed. * Recent guests have found our beds to be very comfortable. (See feedback) * We took your advice re the bath seal, which worked a treat - thank you! * The garden is as photographed by Sykes' photographer and we feel that it gives a pretty good idea of the space. Maybe the photos of the neighbouring open fields and parkland made you think that we had more land than is the case? * Re the holiday home "feel" we are a bit mystified as, before opening, we have carried out extensive refurbishment and building work at The Jays - far, far more than just adding a few new furnishings and items - and have made a point of creating a light and bright space for our guests to enjoy. Indeed, all guests who have commented in our Visitors' Book have written in very positive terms about how much they have enjoyed the house and their holiday with us. Written comments include: "We've had a wonderful "home from home" time. You've thought of pretty well everything - from all the kitchen equipment to games and books - brand new and comfortable", "We felt very happy walking through the door - home from home", "Beds very comfortable and cosy" and "Thank you for our stay in this lovely home in a perfect location". We will, of course, keep an eye on future feedback and continue to respond to make sure our guests have great holidays with us. Thanks again for your comments. Property Owner
