  • "We went with our family including our 16 month old granddaughter for a holiday."

Penny loved the farm and spent a lot of time wandering round looking at the animals. The playbarn had facilities for her as well as older children. The cottage was ideally placed to visit both North Wales and Chester. The family who own the cottages were really helpful. There are a lot of nice walks close by as well.

  • "Beautiful cottage, very clean and well equipped."

Furniture and beds were comfortable, 3 big sofas in the living area so plenty of room for the whole family. Had an amazing time and enjoyed the games room, the fresh eggs that were available and seeing the owls and pigs.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at The Dairy."

It was clean, spacious and well equipped. Children (3 and 5) loved the play barn which had a great variety of toys and activities.

  • "Holiday cottage was lovely."

It was very clean and spacious with plenty of room for 8 people. The games room was great with lots for the children to do. We had some walks in the local area and days out in Chester, Llangollen and LLandudno. Jimmi, who looks after the property made sure we were all ok on the first day and answered any questions when text. I would definitely recommend this holiday cottage to others.

  • "Highly recommend the superb accommodation here at Coxwood Farm."

Such a great location for exploring castles, towns and countryside. The kids loved the farm animals and the games room (fresh duck eggs were amazing!). We stayed in the large Dairy cottage - lovely cottage with huge rooms, ensuite and bathroom upstairs, so many facilities and every day items (DVD, Hoover, microwave, toaster etc) Variety of small shops and parks close by. Highly recommend.

  • "Please can you tell me why a short break such as I have just been on here costs the same for seven nights as two?"

Especially when the property has no bookings either side of my booked dates?? That aside....we had a nice time ...just one disappointment was the playbarn which was being used as furniture storage and was quite dirty ...the pool table being covered with bird seven yr old grandson was upset he couldn't play....I appreciate it's winter however facilities described should really be the same the whole year as stated when paying these prices... The owner Jimmi was very pleasant and helpful and kindly gave us extra time to pack up and leave. And the welcome pack and fresh eggs a nice touch. Yes I would consider going again if the price was reasonable.

The landlord acted quickly. This was just one of those things and disappointing but would not put us off going back. Great location and a really good time.

  • "The Dairy is a lovely cottage So peaceful and enough seating in both lounge and kitchen."

Lovely and warm and cosy Jimmy was so helpful and even offered to transport us to the pub for our meal and to pick us up again. There is a big outside building with snooker, table tennis, bar football for every one ne to play however we didn't use this as we took the wii with us and time just flew playing on the wii. Last day we put our order in for fresh eggs to take home. Although you are joined to cottages you don't hear any noise from the other cottages. Will defo return

  • "We were very pleased with our stay at dairy cottage and found it better than expected in all respects."

When we arrived we found the house much too hot and had to turn all the thermostats down; the central heating was just too efficient! Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage to every body who wanted a very modern property, set deep in the country but close to all shops and restaurants.

  • "The owner was very helpful and even gave us fresh milk and eggs on arrival."

The drive in has been re-surfaced since the last time I was there, what a difference it makes, no more dodging potholes, will definitely be back and I would recommend the property to anyone.

  • "Would be useful to have more information about how to use the hot water system etc."

Also a problem in that to have hot water, you had to have a heater on, which was very uncomfortable in the warm weather. Felt decor looked rather tired - worn carpets, holes in the walls. Fittings lose in the ensuite bathroom. Size of the accommodation good - plenty of space for everyone. Area very pleasant.

  • "Had a great week at 'the dairy', our 2nd visit."

Facilities are great with plenty of things for the kids to do. Makes a fantastic base for exploring with loads of places to visit within an hour's drive. Booking though Sykes Cottages was simple and went without any problems. Highly recommended.

  • "Nice family oriented property."

With a toddler as part of our group the setting adds the interest of farm life with cows in the field close to the cottage. Adequate space for all of us.

  • "The cottage was in excellent condition, with good facilities for the children, plenty of space for relaxing, food preparation etc."

The main downside was the lack of wifi, which combined with lack of mobile phone signal made it extremely difficult to contact people for visits etc. We had been promised that the wifi would be up and running by the Monday, but in a chance encounter with the farmer, he revealed that the "partnership" had broken down and that Mrs Davies had in fact cancelled the wifi account 3 weeks earlier. Being lied to in this manner does put me off returning to this particular cottage, even though it is well situated for visits to family. The only other negative was the state of the drive, which was full of deep potholes. The farmer said that these were going to be sorted as soon as the weather allows, but I suggest that this is given some priority as it will put people off.

The property

The Dairy is a charming semi-detached barn conversion in the village of Llay near Rossett, with wonderful exposed beams and lovely stripped pine doors.

This property is ideal for families or groups of friends sharing, with French windows leading from the farmhouse kitchen onto a private patio and is within a short drive of local amenities, the nearby town of Wrexham, and the historic city of Chester.

When you arrive at your holiday home, you will be greeted by off-road parking before making your way into the living/dining room, a lovely space for gathering with loved ones in front of the coal-effect fire after a day of exploring, or dining as a family while you plan your next expeditions.

The kitchen has everything you need for a self-catering break, including an electric cooker with a double oven and a handy dishwasher to help with cleaning.

Your evening entertainment can be found in the external games room, which houses table tennis, table football, and a pool table, allowing you to let your competitive side loose.

When you've had your fill of walking, retire to one of the three well-presented bedrooms; the master is a double with an en-suite shower room for extra privacy, and the remaining two bedrooms, a twin and an adult bunk, are served by a family bathroom, where you can choose to soak after a day of walking, or quickly rinse off before heading out to one of the nearby pubs for a meal.

Outside, make use of the shared garden space, where you can dine al fresco with a barbecue during the warmer months while the kids play in the dedicated play area.

The Dairy is an excellent choice for a North Wales getaway.
