  • "Overall we had a nice time at the property, the house was very clean and the bedrooms and bathroom were tastefully furnished."

The kitchen suited our needs and had adequate equipment and utensils. The location is excellent and the main selling point. However, we did find the property quite untidy: stacks of paving slabs, half used bag of compost and a parasol in a heap at the front of the house is the first thing we saw and was a disappointing first impression. Random items just left up corners, like the spare laminate flooring in the top double bedroom. The quality of the decorating is really poor - I had read other people say this in other reviews, and is was not the most important factor in our choice of somewhere to stay, however when we were there it just made the house feel a bit like a student let rather than a holiday home. The place did feel a little uncared for. I am referring to things like really careless paintwork on the doors and trim, one light switch had the screws missing, bits of trim not matching up neatly, things like that. Nothing a huge problem, but the house didn't feel like the holiday treat we had hoped for.

  • "We booked a weekend at this property, When we arrived we were hugely disappointed we rang Sykes straight away and ran through our concerns and issues regarding the fixture, fittings and security of this property, We were advised to take pictures and videos and send them over, we explained we could not stay at the property especially when there is a security issue with a window not closing on the ground floor let along the other issues."

We locked up and left the property and went to find a hotel to stay over at night after travelling for 5.5 hours. we promptly sent over the pictures. Sykes have told us they have struggled to speak to the owner with regards to the issues raised, we eventually received a message from Skyes to say the owner said if we depart from the property now they would refund the remaining days as we pointed out that we never stayed at the property therefore we are expecting a full refund for the 3 nights. We have e shared evidence of our findings at the property, a receipt of the hotel we stayed at night but since then we have been told the owner is not responding. We had no other choice but to travel home as it was too short notice for anyone else to take us in. We lost out on our other activities we had booked. Very disappointing as this area looks lovely from what we saw and the property has a lot of potential. Unfortunately this was a complete disaster and remains unresolved 4 days since we raised the issues.

We obviously feel really disappointed to have received your feedback. We have stayed at the house many times ourselves and derived much joy from its many positive attributes of lovely views, walks, comfortable beds, all our homely comforts. We have also received very positive feedback from guests who have left their comments in our Visitors Book and online. We are sorry to hear you did not stay to experience this, and walked out to find something you perceived to be better for your own needs. We appreciate there are some works needing to be done and are endeavouring to get these tackled during our off peak period. It is a 19th century old quirky house that can not be expected to remain in pristine condition 100% of the time. For us that adds to its charm! This is subjective however, and it will never live up to everyone’s expectations. Property Owner

  • "The decorative finish in this property was one of the worst I have encountered."

The work surface in the kitchen was sticky and in places smeared with white decorators caulk. There were paint splashes on the floors. Some paintwork was peeling, some appeared to finished with thin undercoat. The bathroom door did not close and fan did not work. The finishing on a lot of the woodwork was extremely crude. House needs the attention of a professional decorator!

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate all reviews, good and not so good. The issues you mention related to the bathroom - the door and the fan - we will be rectifying at our earliest convenience and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We would plan to undertake maintenance during low season and as this house is old and a bit quirky there will be jobs that need tackling from time to time. Decorative finish is of course subjective and we appreciate will not suit everyone's taste. Hopefully this did not detract from your stay and you did manage to enjoy yourselves with all this area of Wales has to offer. Property Owner
