  • "A lovely coastal property, easy walking distance to the town and beaches."

The garden was great for our two dogs but a mat on the decking by the doors would stop the wet paws entering the property from the garden. A table and chairs out side would make the already lovely deck area perfect for alfresco dining. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything you need. The property is clean and well maintained. We would happily recommend and hope to return.

  • "For us, a couple with 2 dogs, this was an ideal property and location."

Well designed and plenty of space, well stocked kitchen with all the equipment needed. Not overlooked at all at the back and lovely view of the castle from the decking. Under floor heating made it really warm although the lack of radiators other than in the bathroom meant there wasn’t anywhere to dry wet clothes (it was March so inevitably we got a couple of drenchings), so a clothes horse would be useful. The kick board under the sink needs fixing, it falls down every time you open the dishwasher. At this time of year, the back garden is very wet and muddy so a door mat for the back patio doors would be useful. None of this detracted from our experience however. Less than 10 minutes to the beach and high street and with lots of places to visit within a 30 minute drive. The Prince of Wales pub was extremely dog friendly as were most cafes in town, including Dylan’s restaurant which is a must to see the building and views as well as the food. It is our intention to book Doldeg again next year if we can.

The parking space was adequate, however, trying to get in and out of it was a bit dangerous as the dropped kerb was right on the junction of the road to the beach, fortunately, the roadworks which closed off the road meant that passing traffic was reduced, in high season this might be very different.

  • "Doldeg is a lovely bungalow well located."

The showers are amazing and the underfloor heating (when the owner fixed v quickly) was cozy. Dogs loved the garden. The only downside and a massive one was the fact that the WiFi was next to useless. Plusnet confirmed not working. Not good enough when you need to book activities like we did (I.e Zipworld, Portmerion and Ffestiniog railway) and researching where to go. Couldn't even get phone signals with 02 and Ee. I spent £60 on additional mobile data to be able to keep in touch with family (including my mother in law who stayed behind on some days out), buy activities and entry tickets etc. Beyond the control of the owner but Sykes saying that wifi was limited in rural areas such that the description didn't need amending was woeful. Criccieth is not a rural area and when I spoke to the lady in the library (free wifi) and the chemist both were surprised at the poor wifi in our accommodation as they weren't aware it was that bad. If you don't want to effectively go off grid this is not accommodation I would recommend.

Thanks for your kind words about the property. While it's true that we have had problems with the Wifi recently, this is an issue which will be sorted in the coming weeks. There has been a damaged wire due to the recent weather that has affected the main supply into ours and other properties in the local area. If we would have known about the issue sooner we would have offered the option for you to cancel before your stay. It's just one of those things which happens sometimes but has never happened before to us. This should not affect future bookings more than a few weeks, and wifi has been strong and consistent for the past 3 years. As this is a damaged wire, openreach need to repair the issue and all other companies would have the same issue, so changing from plusnet at this point would have no affect unfortunately. All future bookings affected by this issue have or will be offered the chance to cancel. Property Owner

The location is great for access to Criccieth and is also a very peaceful secure location … the kids could play happily in the garden and there was a great little park and play area a very short walk away which helped keep them entertained ! The house is well equipped , especially the kitchen - and is very clean throughout - the washing machine came in very handy ! We had no issues with tv service - having streaming services available was great although the Wi-Fi signal can be temperamental but that’s to be expected in a rural location . Free view channels for ‘normal tv’ were fine. Only improvement I could suggest is maybe some more outside furniture - table & chairs ? We were lucky enough to enjoy lovely weather and it would have been nice to have some meals outside. Great house and beautiful location!

Very private garden. Generally comfortable, well equipped and mostly very clean. Would recommend. A few minor issues need to be sorted. TV.signal issues.....BBC unavailable for most of stay. (Intermittent at start of week then nothing at all for last 3 days). King size quilt needed on king size bed. Plug in ensuite basin doesn't work. Ice box in fridge was so iced up the door wouldn't shut. Bedside lamp not working in 2nd bedroom. Roller blind in kitchen needed to be rolled up and pulled down by hand as mechanism faulty. Frying pan a bit grim - a new one needed. No food waste bags. Venetian blinds very dusty. More drawer space needed as 3 drawers filled with spare bedding etc. One of single beds very squeeky. Running a totally empty freezer not very environmentally friendly.....perhaps fill with tubs of ice cubes that could be removed if freezer needed by occupants. A clothes airer would be handy if weather not suitable for hanging outside.

We have stayed in Criccieth before, through Sykes, and although that property was very nice, this one was better, probably due to the tranquil setting. Location was amazing for us to set of and explore the local area, and walking distance to the beach if we wanted to stay close to home. The town had everything we could need, a good chippy, a few shops and cafés to treat ourselves. Driveway was plenty big enough for 2 large cars in our group. The house itself was well thought out, and plenty of pots, pans, cutlery for us. The garden was safe and secure for our pets, and 2 bathrooms was great for us 3 adults sharing. But by far the best feature was the open plan living area... lots of space for my large dog to enjoy the underfloor heating after walking up Snowden, and then follow me round when cooking in the hope I drop something! • "We had numerous problems with the property, the bedding on the king size bed was too small, the sink in the en suite was the smallest we had ever seen, you couldn’t wash in it."

The heating was inadequate, even the wood burner didn’t have kindling to enable us to light it, so we had to buy it. The TV didn’t work properly. All the utensils, crockery, glasses, cooking equipment were all a complete mish mash and cheap, if you wanted to make a meal, you couldn’t as there was no knives to chop anything up, the glasses were a joke, not enough of any of them. The only way we knew when to put the refuse and recycling out was to check on the local councils website as there was no instructions, the cleaners instructions couldn’t be adhered to as there were no black bags or linen bags. One thing that did make us laugh was there were three pictures blue tacked to the wall, then a frame put around it, the blue tack was coming away and showing through on all corners. We go away in cottages several times a year, this one was a disappointment.

I have to say I believe these comments to be unfair, and so I would like to add a response individually to some of them here: 1. The bedding on the king size is well......king size. 2. The sink is small as to ensure people can pass in and out easily, as the room is quite narrow, any bigger and people would not be able to pass in between it and the toilet without some bother, it is designed for basic daily use such as washing of hands and brushing of teeth.....there is a larger bathroom if needed. 3. Heating is underfloor and takes time to match the thermostat levels. Guests mentioned to me that they failed to turn the thermostat up in one room and so was colder than they were comfortable with. The property has very good heating and not once has anyone mentioned this before, in fact the opposite. 4. Wood burner - we do not as a rule provide wood/kindling/firestarter's for guests, it does mention this in the welcome pack. however we have been providing some logs as a bonus as we had so much ourselves. Guests even mentioned to me that they had "no idea" how to use a log burner. 5. TV - Storm Arwen had just passed 2 days prior and had damaged the TV aerial on roof, which was out of our control. I took the time to buy an internal aerial and go to the property to try to get a signal. Unfortunately this didn't work but the guests were assisted to connect to iplayer/netflix/itv etc etc...needless to say there was not much gratitude! 6. We often have guests who have more people in the group and they have never complained regarding utensils, we have however taken this on board and made some improvements. 7. There is a refuse guide on the table as you walk through the front door with clear instructions as to which bins are used for what etc. 8. Refuse sack's were in the property but have been moved to a more obvious location now. 9. Pictures - I created these myself! We had them on the wall when we lived in the property and ok while I may not be the most artistic person I think they're quite cool! Anyway I don't think they really need to be mentioned on a review as I doubt they so bad to ruin your 'relaxing' break! Please see below for some 'real' feedback and what most of our guests have to say, the vast majority love our cottage and we are super proud of it to say the least....maybe these guests were just not suited to our cottage! The food at the Castle Inn, literally just 5 mins walk away, was very good, we ate there twice. There are lots of beautiful places to see and nowhere seems to far to get too. Our dog had a fabulous time at Black Rock Sands and Harlech. Aberscoch is lovely as was the beach at Nefyn with the Ty Coch Inn literally on the beach. We found the double bed very comfortable as is the sitting room. The back garden is private, filled with bird song and with a view of the castle. The nearby footpaths and little passageways were interesting to explore and provided shortcuts to the shops and beaches. The kitchen would benefit from a small sharp knife, for preparing fruit and veg, a dish suitable for the microwave and a potato 'masher'. Otherwise very well equipped.

  • "The cottage is in an excellent location to enjoy all that Criccieth offers without using a car."

Our dog loved the enclosed back garden and enjoyed sitting on the decking behind the garden furniture. Sykes were very helpful when we lost the key to the front door, as the owner's father lives nearby and was able to come round with the master key to let us in. We would recommend this cottage to anyone wanting to stay in Criccieth, particularly if they have a dog. Blackrock Sands is a super place to walk the dog and the Australia pub is great for a beer afterwards (it also welcomes dogs).

  • "Had a lovely time, cottage was gorgeous and in a fantastic location."

We would definitely return. Our dogs were made to feel welcome with their own doggy cupboard. Lots of space and a nice garden with views of the castle. Only slight issue was that some of the kitchen utensils/tableware and equipment need updating.
