  • "Property was a really good size, had a lot of helpful amenities."

Rear garden was secure for the dog. Views from the front bedroom of the sea and castle were lovely. Conservatory was too cold, even with the heater on or doors left open from the kitchen, and overlooked by neighbouring properties. The double doors to the conservatory have a broken hinge, making it difficult to close. The kitchen has only two rings on the hob, so a little inadequate to cook larger meals. The living room chairs are very uncomfortable. The provision of a TV is a good idea, if it works. Maybe a DVD player would cover for the times of no TV signal. Even better would be some type of service for the TV to carry TV channels. The electrical plug sockets are concerning as they are loose. The decoration and general maintenance need a lot of attention, the paper on the walls is bubbling and the walls damp to the touch. The door between the living room and kitchen are pointless, it has a huge gap, so doesn't close. The door from the kitchen to the hallway also doesn't close, so there is no way of keeping your dog out of the front room at night. The downstairs toilet flushes when it feels like it and the room is very damp, with paint falling off. Going upstairs, the paintwork needs looking at, as paint has fallen off the ceiling. The upstairs front bedroom has damp in the furthest corner from the windows/door. Again, needs a lot of work on the decoration. The rear bedroom has multiple areas of damage to the walls. Again, need attention to the paintwork at least. The bathroom is a great size, with a decent shower. However, the toilet is difficult to flush (to say the least), and very loud when it does. The finishing of the paintwork needs looking at. The mirror on the wall is loose. There are no shelves/storage and no toilet roll holder. In general, what could be a great cottage has been let down by lack of care and attention to its maintenance. Yes, we had an explanation of there was a problem with the external wall, but this doesn't explain the internal walls and ceilings (with no connection to the outside wall) being damp. In general, sadly, this cottage has not been to the standard as expected when booking through Sykes.

We are sorry that you had issues with our cottage and thank you for highlighting the problems. But there are some things we cannot change. However, the cottage is currently undergoing a complete redecoration, including treating damp areas. There is a curtain to separate the kitchen and lounge, the Louvre doors are meant for decoration only, but we will see what we can do about that and the door from the kitchen to the hall. The plumber has been to check the toilet and it just needed slight adjustment. Kind regards Property Owner

Note the property is at the top of quite a steep hill from the beach and parking is a bit cramped in the street. Generally clean and well maintained but light not working in utility room. Rugs showing signs of use and although I know dogs are allowed it might not suit all families particularly those with young toddlers.

The taps in the bathroom were about to break they need urgent attention. On the plus side the bedrooms were large and the beds and bedding were vey good. The baby gate downstairs was a good thing as we had a dachshund who was not allowed upstairs.

Thank you for your feedback and for informing us about the taps and the garden. These will be dealt with as soon as possible. We appreciate your use of the gate thank you. Update - the bathroom taps have been replaced by the plumber, the loo flush has been checked and is working properly. Property Owner

The bedding and beds were excellent, both in comfort and quality. Parking was on road, but there was plenty of room in the fairly quiet road. Little further from the sea than we expected, with steep hill... we are aged 75+... but younger, more mobile people wouldn't have a problem with the location. Overall we would definitely recommend this cottage. Lovely touch from our host was the milk and some luxury biscuits that were provided, so our first cuppa was a treat.

Some what attention to detail has been missed. Although everything you need is in the cottage, beds comfortable, good sized bathroom. The kitchen has everything that you need. The seating areas in front room is not very comfortable at all. The decor could do with updating and maybe a-bit more attention to detail. Property would benefit from a deep clean

We had a lovely stay at this property, didn't light the wood burner but if we come again to this property we would consider the fire as it was a bit chilly at night we had to turn up the heating to be comfortable, also the signal on the tv not very good at times but we just put something else on

  • "The most well equipped place we have stayed in and exceptional clean."

Good position and had no trouble parking. Nice quality bed linen and comfy beds. Decoration looked a bit tired, but then it is a traditional old Welsh cottage. Garden secure for dog although was smaller than looked in photo, but adequate. Conservatory too cold to use (November) but ate off fold up tables which was fine. Efficient heating system elsewhere. Used log burner for effect, but warm enough without. Could do with different light in the kitchen as found fluorescent strip too bright and cold. Good pub grub at The Prince of Wales, 10 mins walk. Very friendly staff, as were the people. Overall really enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Thank you Jan & Martin

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. The table in the conservatory is effectively two smaller tables. Either one or both will fit in the kitchen area in front of the fire which makes a cosy eating area. Property Owner

  • "This is a lovely property which we have now stayed in several times."

We really appreciate the way the owner provides some basis supplies (for the dishwasher, washing machine etc) as well as a welcome packet of biscuits and pint of milk. The main house is cosy and well-appointed. It would have been nice to have some form of heating in the conservatory where the dining table is. It was too cold to use this room when we stayed this time. However, we appreciate that would add to the costs for the owners.

Thank you for your feedback it is appreciated. To warm up the conservatory when we are there we open the kitchen french doors and it soon warms up enough to use. I hope that this is a useful suggestion. Property Owner

Proximal to big shops (Lidl, Aldi, Asda, Tesco) and walkable to the Cricceith shoreline. Cottage is clean and homely and has everything you could need. The small bottle of semi skimmed milk, some tea bags and bisgedi in the cottage for when you arrive so you can have a cuppa before you shop properly is a very nice and welcome touch - especially if you have travelled a distance to get there. Would recommend highly

The proximity (5 minutes walk) to lovely quiet country walks with the dog was much appreciated, and the cottage was well equipped with seating, kitchen utensils, appliances etc. The only complaint was that the BBQ mentioned in the details was in a locked shed and we received the key the afternoon before our departure. Lovely to look over at the castle and sea from main bedroom window and this compensated for any inconvenience.

  • "We really loved our stay."

The cottage was pleasant and homely. It had everything we could ever need during our stay and more which was very thoughtful. The hosts had considered everything! The cottage was spotlessly clean with Welsh cakes and a carton of milk on arrival - which was very kind. Thank you! We loved the quality bed linens and towels - little touches that make your stay even nicer! The double bed in the master bedroom was so comfortable that we’re investing in the same mattress for our bed at home! The location is perfect - it’s a short walk down a hill to Criccieth’s high street where there are a couple of pubs, a shop and takeaways if you don’t want to cook. There is easy access down to Criccieth beach from the town. We noticed dogs aren’t allowed on the beach in the summer months so please be aware if you have your furry friends with you. Other local beaches are fine. The cottage is perfectly located for exploring the Llyn Peninsular - in 3 days we visited Abersoch, Portmeirion and Porthdinllaen - all a short drive away. Would definitely stay again!

The biscuits were a nice surprise and my husband enjoyed them enormously. Shower was very good and the property was very clean and had a nice homely feel. Towels and various cleaning materials supplied but could not find a dustpan and brush. The garden is enclosed but not as long as shown in photograph on the website. The front bedroom you can see the sea and car style. There is plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. The car was parked on the road and we did not have any problems with this. We had a very nice stay and would recommend this property.

  • "This property was better supplied than other cottages we have stayed in with plenty of cleaning materials, spare toilet rolls and soap etc."

We also appreciated having maps of the area there and the recommendations for local restaurants. The cottage was comfortable and in a good location, though the hill was a little daunting at the end of the day. There were only a couple of small issues. My partner hit his head a couple of times on the low ceiling coming down the stairs so possibly some sort of warning would be helpful. Also I was a little wary of using the garden as it was clear that it had been used by dogs and it was unclear if it had all been cleaned up behind them as the grass was a little long. As I said these were only small issues which didn't impact significantly on our enjoyment of the cottage and we would recommend it to other people.

Some holiday house owners don't provide anything which means you have to bring or buy things specially for a week's stay. This is a very welcoming and pleasant house, with a really nice vibe. Being a cold late winter/early spring week, the weather was cold (but very sunny) and it was quite cold to have breakfast in the conservatory, although that is a really nice space. Either a table in the kitchen or a heater in the conservatory would be nice. But I imagine in summer the conservatory and garden will be pleasantly warm. One of the bedside lamps in the main bedroom wasn't working. But everything else was great. We had a really nice week.
