It’s in a great location, being close to the Castles of Caernarfon, Beaumaris and Conwy, but also near to the beach and the heart of Snowdonia. From the initial contact with the owner, regarding queries on what was provided at the house, then the Welcoming visit to make sure we had everything we needed, through to leaving the property, the owner was extremely helpful. Thank you - especially for providing the sun parasol which was greatly appreciated given the hot weather. It was also nice to have a lawn area with some shade. The house itself was extremely clean with plenty of space. The kitchen was well equipped with tea towels and a hand towel provided. There was an outside washing line and indoors clothes airer to dry wet towels and clothing. The king sized beds (the only ones slept in) were extremely comfortable. Highly recommended. A lovely place to stay with a delightful host.

In the current COVID climate we appreciate that holidays at home are very much in demand, and can thoroughly recommend Caer Moel as an ideal location from which to explore this beautiful part of Wales. Our only slight criticism is that for the money paid (and bearing in mind this was a summer holiday), it would have been quite nice to have had a BBQ facility available. That said, the owners kindly raised no objection to our use of disposable BBQs. We were there to celebrate our ruby wedding with our family, and can confirm that Caer Moel played an important part in ensuring we had a happy and memorable experience.

It was especially good for our elderly parents with a well appointed ground floor bedroom and facilities. It was also nice and warm and the drive up to the house gave a good impression. The cottage is ideally situated in beautiful countryside yet within a few miles of Caernarfon with its restaurants, pubs, shops, boat trips and, of course, the magnificent castle. The cottage is quiet and peaceful, the only noise coming from the infrequent steam trains (the wonderful Welsh Highland Line) passing the end of the garden. The cottage is, in effect, a completely detached building with a large garden, patio and scenic views over the distant hills towards Snowdonia. There’s plenty of space around the cottage too – the immediate surroundings are mainly fields and woods. The very large kitchen and dining room, and bathrooms are modern with all of the facilities you would expect in a brand-new building. The living room and bedrooms are furnished in an older, more comfortable style and are very cosy. The rooms are big, with plenty of space for a large group. And, of course, the bottles of wine and welsh cakes were very much appreciated.

The property

Caernarfon 3 miles.

A beautifully-appointed farmhouse located in a rural location, surrounded by open countryside and mountainous scenery, set in a quiet courtyard, on the owners’ smallholding, close to Caernarfon.

Perfectly located, Caer Moel provides an ideal base for couples, friends and families wishing to spend quality time together whilst being centrally situated for all that Snowdonia and the North Wales coast has to offer.

Sympathetically and imaginatively refurbished to a high standard, the original part of the farmhouse exudes charm and character with the sitting room boasting exposed ceiling beams and a wonderful inglenook fireplace housing a warming, electric woodburner-effect stove.

The character is also seen in the extended part of the farmhouse, which blends beautifully with the light and spacious kitchen with integrated appliances and an electric range cooker.

The kitchen extends to a wonderful dining area with a high-pitched ceiling and lots of natural light from the large window, along with patio doors which lead to a seating area outside, perfect for alfresco dining.

From the dining area, French doors lead to a beautiful rear hallway with double height ceiling and a bespoke oak and glass split-level staircase taking you up to a mezzanine landing area, a perfect place for a little ‘me’ time.

A ground floor bedroom with an en-suite shower room is perfect for members of the group who may find stairs a little tricky and also benefits from having a super king-size bed which can also be made up as a twin.

Upstairs, there are three good-sized bedrooms, each individually furnished and styled to suit all and benefit from lovely views, taking in open fields and the surrounding countryside, and completing the accommodation is an upstairs bathroom.

Outside there's lovely block paved patio areas and seating areas of crushed slate, so peaceful and tranquil, with only the sheep and cows in the adjoining fields for company.

There are lots of walks to enjoy from the cottage, each taking in some wonderful scenery along the way, and within a couple of miles you can enjoy a day on the beautiful Blue flag beach at Dinas Dinlle.

If you need to stock up on the essentials, venture to the nearby Morrisons Daily in Bontnewydd, or if you don't feel like cooking, why not treat your loved ones to some hearty fare at the Newborough Arms Pub.

There is also a handy Millets store only paces away from the property so you can ensure you have everything you need for your fun-filled adventures; discover the Dinas station of the Welsh Highland Railway close by which dates to the 1800s and is steeped in local history.

The historic harbour town of Caernarfon boasts a wide selection of independent and high street shops, bars, cafés and restaurants.

The town is dominated by the majestic medieval castle which overlooks the harbour and is also home to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway which runs through some stunning countryside.

Caer Moel is one holiday cottage you’ll want to return to time and time again.

Caernarfon (county town of Gwynedd) has much historic and cultural importance in North Wales. It is a popular tourist spot with its impressive 13th Century castle, well preserved town walls and delightful water front. During the season there are guided tours of the castle and special events including historic pageants. There is also a station for the Welsh Highland Railway, which passes through dramatic scenery, the village of Beddgelert and onto Porthmadog. Fishing trips are available from the harbour and another attraction within walking distance of the town centre is Segontium, a Roman fort and museum, housing many important finds. Caernarfon offers a wide selection of shops and places to eat and is close to the lovely beaches of the Isle of Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula as well as the mountains and rivers of Snowdonia, including the renowned mountaineering town of Llanberis at the foot of Mount Snowdon.
