  • "A lovely cottage, beautifully maintained and comfortable."

Very remote, which we wanted, with a couple of lovely special walks - to the Capel Garmon burial mound and to Conway Falls and its Cafe - right from the door.

  • "This is an amazing little cottage, we stayed for a week, we couldn’t fault the place, the lady who owns it Kathy was lovely very friendly and chatty and said if we need anything to just give her a ring, thankfully we never needed to ring as the cottage was perfect."

No noise pollution at all and was so peaceful. We will 100% be booking again and look forward to our next stay. Would highly recommend this cottage for your next holiday or short break. 100% peace and relaxation in abundance here. There are plenty of leaflets as to what attractions are near by and a lovely welcome book with plenty of details about the cottage and surrounding areas.

  • "We had an excellent stay in the cottage, a beautiful location with fine local walks and good access to Snowdonia."

Minor points to note; the door lacks an unlocking latch, so if you exit and close the door without a key , you get locked out. Disabling the lock allows the door to blow open. An electric kettle would have been a bit more handy. Also we had thought of bringing two electric cars, but north Wales is not well served with ev chargers. Having some sort of arrangement to allow slow charging off the cottage 13 A ring main (eg to the yard at the back of the cottage) would be advantageous (ev drivers can carry all necessary cabling with them - they only need to know how far it would be from 13A socket to the car. An honesty arrangement could be agreed on how much electricity is used to reimburse the cottage owners). Overall, a most enjoyable stay - and weather to match! Thank you.

  • "Meifod is located in the middle of nowhere which makes it a great place to relax as it is far from any noises produced by traffic and "humans"."

To get to the cottage it is important to follow the owners instructions because navigating by postal code will not get you there. All basic needs are catered for although the television could have been a bit larger. The same applies to the shower. My wife had no problem but for me (1.87m and 112 kg) showering was a bit of a Houdini act. The absence of wi-fi was not a major issue as far as we were concerned. Regards, Piet

Cosy and tastefully decorated. Beautiful, peaceful location. Fabulous views. Comfy bed. Loads of clothes storage. Owners there if you need them but don't push themselves on you. Location great for accessing the National Park. Will definitely be booking here again.

  • "Room for improvement: Note the cottage hasn’t got wifi or a washing machine."

I didn’t notice when making the booking as I expected those to be basic facilities. Wifi would be crucial for younger people and those like us who need to stay in touch with work. We had unlimited data on our phones and the reception was fine so could use our phones and laptops. Staying there for a week or longer without wifi and a washing machine could be a problem. Finally arrival after 6 and leaving by 9AM is a bit much. The owners were happy to be flexible but you don’t know until the last minute. Positives: the location was great for us as it is in the middle of Snowdonia only a 5-‘min drive from Betws-y-Coed where you can find everything you need! The drive is on a single track road for the last 5 mins but doable. It is very quiet, quite far from other dwellings so if you ‘re looking for peace this is your place! The two-bedroom cottage is very ample with lots of room for the two or more. It was very clean and had everything you need really. I would get an electric kettle as the hob one takes ages and is not energy-efficient. Overall a good experience for us but with the little improvements mentioned here it could be perfect. Thanks.

  • "We stayed in the cottage for 5 nights, the cottage was clean, cosy and warm."

The cottage is in a beautiful quiet location, so it was a perfect place to relax and get away for a relaxing break. We enjoyed watching the stars at night from our bedroom window and relaxing next to the electric wood burner after a long day of walking. The owners were also very lovely and attentive. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who enjoys peace and tranquility.

  • "Although the cottage was very comfortable and the owners superb we feel Sykes Cottages themselves were lacking when it came to communication."

We asked questions by e mail because we could not get through on the phone , which , to this day have not been answered. However as soon as we had the owners’ details and we telephoned they could not have been more helpful and welcoming , and we enjoyed our stay at their cottage immensely .

  • "I had queries regarding the arrival time which I put to Sykes' representative."

The representative said she would contact the owner with the queries and come back to us with a reply. However, she did not, but instead sent an email the next day saying they were not able to accommodate our request. In fact the owner of the cottage telephoned and let us know the change of arrival time was owing to longer cleaning times of the cottage because of Covid. She was helpful and let us arrive 1 1/2 hours earlier. The cottage was out in the mountains and countryside and it was difficult to arrive in the dark and find the cottage - if it had been later it would have been even more difficult. I am the carer for a disabled person and this was a difficult situation. Perhaps there should be a longer interval between guests to allow an earlier arrival time? The cottage was lovely and well equipped and comfortable for two people, even though quite small. The surrounding countryside was beautiful, with walks all around and in a very peaceful setting. It was a really relaxing stay and (apart from an earlier arrival time, which is due to the very difficult times we are in) everything was perfect.

They were incredibly helpful and kind and made us feel safe taking a break during the current pandemic. We could not have hoped for better and we'd really recommend staying at this property. I cannot commend the owners more highly as they were truly exceptional. The cottage itself was extremely comfortable, situated in a very quiet spot with beautiful views and very close to some of the best walking in Wales. It was well equipped and had everything we needed for a calm relaxing holiday.

  • "Every time my wife looked at the cottage from her PC she was inundated with emails - she will not be using Sykes again."

As I booked the holiday from my PC I found that my personal calendar on my phone updated from yourselves with this holiday - obviously double booking the whole week. I found this insulting, patronising and completely unnecessary, as well as invading my personal diary - I shall have to look at permissions to ensure nobody else can do this. Consequently I shall not be using Sykes again. There are plenty of other companies who are better in a number of respects. We also found the website unhelpful in a number of ways. Not least all cottage descriptions could be fuller. However on the good side the cottage was lovely, very clean and the hosts friendly and helpful. A very quiet and picturesque location. Had a wonderful holiday. Pity the lead up to it was spoilt by the calendar issue and a mountain of unwanted emails.

We were on a father and son walking trip and it was absolutely perfect for our needs. Exactly as described, and very comfortable. The heating system is very good, the beds comfortable and the kitchen/diner/sitting area just right for a small family. The property owners were very welcoming, including to our dog, which was nice. The location is excellent, being away from the main roads but with some good walking right on the doorstep. There is more local information available in the cottage than you can possibly have time to absorb! All in all, a great stay. Many thanks.
