  • "We had the most wonderful stay at the Wheelhouse."

The owner of the property was both friendly and charming. There were fresh eggs and a homemade cake to welcome us on our arrival. But my favourite touch was a beautiful posy of flowers from the owner’s garden. A charming country retreat.

  • "A quaint and unusual property in a beautiful part of Shropshire."

Property was very clean and came well equipped. Friendly welcome from Carol, the owner, with a lovely cake and fresh eggs from her chickens. Very quiet & peaceful location even although there is a railway line nearby (mentioned by an earlier reviewer) but we barely noticed it. The only problems arise if you are tall (as I am), then you are likely to find the bedroom & bathroom ceilings very low and and/or if you have arthritis (as I do), then you are likely to have difficulty getting up and down from the lowish settee. However, fit and normal height individuals should have no such problems!

  • "The Wheelhouse is a lovely little cottage next to the Mill House."

Carol, the owner was so kind, helpful and generous. She made me a cake and left me some of the eggs laid by her chickens, which were delicious! She also dried my walking shoes on her aga stove when they got soaked on a walk. I really enjoyed my stay. The cottage was cosy and very comfortable.

The cottage was excellent and was just as stated in the write up. What a welcome we had cake, eggs, fruit in the fruit bowl water and milk in the fridge and even a basket in the bathroom with toothbrush, sewing kit etc. what good thinking a really home from home experience would 100% stay there again. from Ann and Michael.

  • "The Wheelhouse is a really comfortable little cottage set in a lovely secluded position."

It is very well equipped with all you need for your holiday, comfortable sofa and bed and everything nice and clean. The owner, Carole, couldn't be more welcoming and kept us supplied with fresh eggs from her chickens. We have stayed in many cottages over the past few years and The Wheelhouse is certainly one of the best and we will definitely be making a return visit as soon as we can. We would highly recommend the cottage .

  • "Delightfully quirky property adjacent to an old water wheel and the owners property."

Lovely rural location for a couple. Carol made us very welcome (her ladies even provided some free range eggs too!) Its a great base for exploring Shropshire . A footpath runs directly through the property if you want to walk directly from the door. Our well behaved dog was welcome on a lead. There is a railway line close by but it was not a problem for us. Thank you Carol.

  • "A delightful quirky cottage enjoying magnificent views of surrounding countryside."

Next door to the hospitable owner who is extremely friendly, we enjoyed free range eggs galore almost layed before our eyes. A delicious cake and, a first for me, met with a filled fruit bowl. We had a great week walking through a field of lambs to reach the village.

The cottage was cosy and comfortable the owner carol was a delight to meet and her home made cake and fresh eggs was excellent my only negative point is the constant inter city trains that run right behind the cottage for me it made it very difficult to sleep because they ran throughout the night the railway was meters away from the property I have made a complaint to Sykes team without any joy I feel my holiday was ruined because of this I feel that there should be something wrote up in the infantry to let others know about location of how close this cottage is so I do not put any blame on the owner she is a lovely lady my dissatisfaction is with skyescottages for not putting this in the description so looking forward I will definitely not be using them again which is a great shame because this is the fifth cottage we have holidayed in but on mentioning this to the complaints team it made no difference at all just goes to show how the applicant there costumers

I am very disappointed that Mrs. Marilyn Hopkins felt that the nearby railway disturbed her stay at The Wheelhouse. The Cottage has been continually booked, with Sykes, since May and as far as I am aware, she has been the only person who has been troubled by the trains. There are no intercity trains on this line. This is not a main line. There are just one, two and three coach 'shuttle type' passenger trains that pass with very little disturbance. All passenger trains stop running at night and do not start again until about 7am. There are a few goods trains but only about three run at night. Due to engineering work on this line no trains have been running over the weekends. No trains have been running from Friday pm to Monday am and this is likely to continue for some while. The wheelhouse cottage is situated below the level of the railway and there is a barrier of trees behind the cottage so any noise goes over the top. Most of my guests appreciate how quiet and tucked away the cottage is. I am sorry if Mrs. Hopkins had a disturbed stay. Carole Llewellyn. Property Owner

  • "On arrival there was a nice warm friendly welcome from the owner, Carole."

Cake, eggs & milk were provided as a starter pack. Carole took the time to show me round the house making sure that I knew where everything was particularly where the light switches were situated. The house was very comfy with all the facilities that were required to make it an enjoyable stay. The house is an ideal base for anyone wishing to have a walking holiday in that Shropshire.

It is an ideal couples retreat. It is in a beautiful location with the Caer Caradoc hill as a stunning backdrop. Carole, the owner went out of her way to provide extras such as eggs and cake and was very helpful and informative. A half mile scenic walk away is The Yew Tree pub which is well worth a visit. Would definitely return.
