The facilities were wonderful ( large rooms, comfortable, clean, warm with a good room make up for large groups which is often hard to find) and it was by far the best equipped property we have ever stayed in. The location was tranquil with outside sitting areas and was well placed for days out. We will definitely be booking to go back again next year.

  • "Regarding the accuracy of the listing, we found and booked the property through the Big Cottages website."

We just paid for it through Sykes. The property description on the Big Cottages site was accurate but did not do full justice to this excellent property. We very much enjoyed our week at Plas Yolyn. The house is very comfortable and spacious, beautifully decorated and furnished, well maintained and well equipped. We also loved its beautiful garden and spacious grounds and enjoyed the tennis court and the hot tub. As a family (three generations including five children) we have a week's holiday together every year. Plas Yolyn was our twelfth holiday house, and certainly one of the best we have stayed in, if not the best (though it would have been rather too luxurious and spacious for us when the children were much younger). We very much liked the local area. There are four Landranger OS books of walks overlapping the area - so no lack of lovely walks and cycling/biking. We also visited Chirk Castle, Errdig Hall and other gardens, and Ellesmere and its lakes. We shopped in Llangollen and canoed and hired a barge for a day on the Llangollen Canal. We also lazed a lot in Plas Yolyn's lovely garden.

  • "We have just returned from a weeks stay at Plas Yolyn and are already thinking about our next stay!"

There were four adults and six children, with the children ranging in age from 10 to 16, and we all had the most amazing time. On arrival, we were absolutely blown away by the size of the house, it seemed so much bigger in real life. We were also impressed with the cleanliness - every room and every bathroom was absolutely spotless! The welcome hamper on arrival was a lovely touch too. With it being a self catering accommodation, we had brought our own cleaning products/laundry products/tea towels/condiments etc but there was no need - apart from fresh food it had absolutely everything you could need. There was an abundance of cutlery/kitchen utensils/cookware/crockery, we really couldn’t think of anything else we could possibly need. We enjoyed use of the hot tub which was cleaned out early every morning ready for the day ahead. We didn’t have the best weather, it was a bit drizzly for most of the week but that didn’t stop the children having fun in the enormous grounds; they spent hours outside playing football and tennis. We had a couple of cosy film nights in the sitting room with the log fire burning, it was really relaxing and the sofas were so comfortable. We loved that each bedroom had its own ensuite bathroom, with so many of us sharing a house it was nice to never have to queue for a loo! The bedrooms were all huge and beautifully presented, with most overlooking the stunning grounds. We really couldn’t find fault at all, it was just perfect!

Most impressive wi-fi speed considering the property is in the middle of nowhere, but the mobile phone coverage is a bit iffy Impressed with the plentiful supply of logs for the fires, and the aga was permanently on providing heat and a great cooking facility to complement the standard electric oven. The owners left a very generous hamper of food and drinks for us to start the holiday Hot tub and sauna were well used by our family. The bedrooms were big and we were able to accommodate the 15 of us easily as 2 extra beds were provided so that 4 of the grandchildren were able to share one room. Just be aware that by default single beds need to be requested as most bedrooms have large double beds. Although one of the additional toilets has full disabled facilities none of the en-suites which are with every bedroom have The property could be improved by a little more thought in this area. Plas Yolyn is a luxurious stately home, steeped in history and situated 4 miles from Ellesmere in Shropshire.

Striking an imposing image as you first enter the impressive grounds, this Grade II* listed property dates back to the 17th century and has been variously connected to the Sheriff of Shropshire, Oliver Cromwell and Welsh royalty during its colourful existence.

Having been carefully renovated and restored in recent times, the original architecture and decorative features of this magnificent property have been retained to provide an impressive holiday home with more than a touch of class and luxury, including a bubbling hot tub and a two person sauna.

The gravel drive sweeps round to the house with its impressive facade and the heavy wooden door leads into a grand entrance hall, furnished with a baby grand piano and leather conversation sofas placed in front of a large woodburner.

To the left is an impressive banqueting hall with wood-panelled walls, with room enough for the whole party to sit comfortably, whilst to the right there is a drawing room with garden doors onto the patio, not to mention gorgeous original sash windows and shutters, as well as a roaring open fire.

The country kitchen forms a central hub around the generous breakfast table and oak rocking chair, warmed by an original oil AGA and retaining a splendid red quarry tile floor and exposed oak beams, complemented by modern granite work tops.

ThereÂ’s also a cosy snug just perfect for reading, again enjoying a warming woodburner and this room leads through to two stylish ground floor bedrooms, both with en-suite shower facilities.

The first floor is accessed from either the main staircase or the secret former servantÂ’s staircase, both of which lead up to five well-proportioned and beautifully-presented bedrooms, all boasting en-suite shower facilities and garden views.

In addition, a spacious family bathroom offers a free standing bath, a walk-in shower and a two person sauna, whilst there are three further cloakrooms available on the ground floor.

Children and adults alike will enjoy the well-equipped games room with full-size table tennis, Smart TV and many games and toys, ideal for a rainy day's entertainment.

Outside the grounds are equally impressive, covering 10 acres of countryside, with a formal garden to the side of the property, where you will find the hot tub and patio area surrounded by established borders, whilst to the front of the house thereÂ’s a croquet lawn, leading to a dried-up leat with lawns stretching beyond.

To the rear of the cottage you will find a hard-standing tennis court and practice wall and an orchard, as well as woodland walks and a pretty lake.

For the more adventurous, perhaps try tackling a section of the nearby Wats Dyke Way, or the Offa's Dyke trail which can be found in Chirk, just five miles away.

This recent winner of a 'Sykes GEM Gold award' is a truly special property in a fantastic location, sure to leave you with superb memories of a luxurious break away.
