  • "The property was in a perfect location for Chester."

A 10 minute walk up the canal and you are in the town. Waitrose is about five minute walk away which was handy too. It was very quiet at night, a bonus so near to the town. Could not fault it. We are a couple so it was an ideal size for us, don’t think I would want to share it with more than two but we like a bedroom each so it was perfect. The property has a private parking space always a must and had everything we could need. The beds were comfortable too which isn’t always the case in a lot of rentals. We have used Sykes and rental properties for holidays for some time and would rate this at the top of the list. Many thanks.

  • "The property was as described, nice and clean - everything you needed for your stay."

The beds were comfortable - plenty of hot water and heating when required. The outside area is useful and a suntrap. The apartment was a short walk away 10 - 15 minutes from the city center along the canal. There is limited clothes storage in one of the bedrooms - something to think about. The off street parking was great to have and there was generally additional parking outside within 3 or 4 minutes walk.

  • "Returned early from Sykes Cottage due to a feeling of disappointment with the package."

The cottage was clean and well equipped with two big exceptions, the corner settee was very uncomfortable and totally misplaced with regards to the TV useless for 4 people viewing. The cottage was not near the centre of Chester walkable if under 50 but not for older people and the surroundings are not "des res ". I am not a snob being from 2 up 2 down in earlier years. I feel a bit downbeat overall.

Lovely property and great location. Nice stroll up the canal to the city with some nice pubs and restaurants on the way. Nice local pubs with great views of the river in close location. Will be booking again

  • "This is a lovely property, very comfortable and very well equipped, with everything we needed and expected."

The beds were comfy and the decor fresh and welcoming. It is also handy for walking to the centre of Chester and to and from the station. The only difficulty we found was in finding it in the first place, our taxi driver dropped us off at the end of Spital Walk and we spent quite a while trying to locate the right house! Some clearer directions of where to find the property once you turn into Spital Walk would have helped in this regard. But, a great place to stay for a short break in Chester.

  • "We loved the apartment and were lucky enough to meet the owner, who was a really nice individual."

It was perfect for our needs, allowing us to explore Chester and get in a lot of walking along the canal system. The only observations would be: 1. add a downlighter over the dining table, as it can be quite a dark spot 2. add blinds to the bedroom windows, as the street light shines in and can make the rooms really light 3. work out some storage for the double bedroom. Not a problem for us, as we only wanted one bedroom and used the second (with single beds) to store our clothes for the few nights we were there. Otherwise: Perfect!

thank you our stay was just great.

  • "We really enjoyed our weekend break at this property."

Our only issue was the small main bedroom with its lack of wardrobe space. This bedroom (double bed) only has 2 small bedside cabinets and so we had to hang our clothes in the wardrobe in the twin bedroom. Not really a big issue for a weekend break but could’ve been had we been staying for a week. There is room for a small wardrobe in the large area outside the bedroom door, towards the bathroom. Everything else is perfect for a holiday in Chester, great location and good parking for 1 car.

The property was immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable. The area was so quiet, we slept very well. We will have to come back in the summer to enjoy the lovely outside area. Thank you also for the lovely treats on our arrival.

Handy to walk into Chester along canal. Off-road parking very useful. Cleanliness could have better in one or two areas. Also WiFi code not given in welcome pack.

  • "Lovely cottage."

It was very clean and had excellent facilities, including a coffee machine - which was a nice touch. The courtyard garden was lovely and felt very private. The cottage was in easy walking distance (along the canal) of the city and the train station. Lots to see in Chester and North Wales/Liverpool easy to get to for days out. Definitely recommend.

  • "We have stayed all over the world in rented accomodation and this was first class booking for the below reasons :- 1."

Great communication with Sykes Cottages and ease of booking the property. Plus more communication of Sykes before we arrived with property procedures before arrival. 2. On arrival we was very impressed with cleanlness of the property and communcation messages of the owners Ian and Janette with Wifi codes before arrival. 3. Kitchen come lounge very welcoming but the little gem for us was the Court yard at the back well presented , loved sitting there in the evening and when the sun was shining till 8pm in the evening having our G &T and Cava . when dusk came the wall decortion lit up , very nice touch. 4. Very important that you have a good sleep when away from home the beds was of excellent quality not hard and not soft absoloutly perfect. 5. Location perfect not right in the center hence no noise but just a short walk away from the property. We are fitness people so the gorgeous walks along the canal both ways was marvelous . Waitrose 10 minutes walk from the property into the city and its Huge. plus the other way about 15 minutes was an Aldi . We would definatley book this property again and can't thank the owners enough for the effort to make our stay very relaxing and enjoyable. Thank you Ian and Janette Best Regards Peter and Carolyn Pennington

About the location

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
