  • "A small cosy cottage which was lovely and warm from the moment we arrived as Rob (owner ) had put the heating on for us ."

The bedding and towels we’re immaculately clean and the kitchen is well equipped . The village is friendly as is the Coffee Shop and the Hare Pub just over the road does good good and was dog friendly in the bar area . The well stocked shop and two take outs in Holt are only a 5-10 minute walk away .We had no problem at all parking .

  • "This is the second time we have stayed at the Rock Cottage, I think we will probably be back again in the future, a really homely feel and great location within the village of Farndon."

We have had no parking issues either time.

  • "Beds very comfy."

Loved the books and induction oven. Parking big issue. Privacy issue. Heavy dust and rubbish under rugs. Owner polite. Great for dog walking, great butcher/coffee shop/pub. TV too small. Very easy booking service.

  • "We loved the cottage and found it to be homely and extremely clean and well presented, so much so we booked again right away."

Everything was catered for, comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen, lovely little garden and the area/location itself is wonderful. Would definitely recommend.

  • "What a lovely cottage."

A couple of things stood out that could easily be improved, the first would be the silicone in the bathroom needs replacing which for a relatively small cost would make showering a much more pleasant experience. Secondly a dishwasher could easily be fitted in the kitchen under the draining board, there is currently a 600mm wide cupboard that could be removed and replaced with a dishwasher. Nobody wants to wash up when on holiday

  • "A beautiful cottage in a lovely setting."

We really liked the quirky features- such as all the books. House was well equipped with everything we needed and the owner was easy to liaise with. We would definitely recommend The Hare across the road and walks around the local area.

  • "What a lovely stay we had at 2 rock cottages."

From start to finish Robin was helpful, kind and was just a phone call away. The cottage itself was warm, quiet and cosy (with help from the open fire, which we lit most nights!) We would definitely book 2 rock cottages again and would highly recommend. Ps. The pub over the road is very handy!

  • "There were major renovation works to a building over the road which we should have been informed about."

Not ideal when you are on holiday and work started at half 7 or when you have a baby and need to get them down for a nap in the middle of the day!

  • "Beautiful cottage in a friendly village right on the Welsh borders."

It was coming home for us as we are currently living in Hampshire, so we spent Christmas with our loved ones in this little gem. Top quality fittings, bedding and towels and a big family kitchen made our stay. The owner, Rob, welcomed us and was really helpful If I had to nitpick ( and it’s so small I almost don’t want to !) the kitchen lighting could be better. The steps to the cottage are very steep and would be a no-no for anyone with mobility issues, but this is pointed out on the website.

  • "A lovely cottage, very comfortable and warm."

Well equipped kitchen. Nicely enclosed garden at the rear, great for our dog. Farndon is a lovely village, with local shops and lots of great walks. Unfortunately the local coffee shop and garden centre do not allow dogs in, which is a shame - however, the Peal of Bells Pub across the river welcomes dogs (in Holt) and a short drive away Lilys Cafe, Aldford, allows dogs in too.

  • "The cottage itself was lovely, warm and cosy, the owner Rob was helpful, we had no issues with our stay ."

Would definately recommend the property. It’s a shame that the same can’t be said for Sykes - who are severely lacking in customer service. Have booked cottages through your company previously but won’t again. Aside from the completely impersonal and unhelpful manner when dealing with your customers, I don’t appreciate your attempts to overcharge me and then when challenged, make out like you are doing me a favour for then charging the correct price.

  • "Lovely holiday cottage, situated in a nice little village."

Enabled us to use it as a base to explore Chester and beyond, with the knowledge that we could easily take the dog out for a walk from the doorstep.

  • "This cottage was a little gem."

It was spotlessly clean, in a beautiful place, with lovely neighbours and the owner had thought of everything. The garden was small but. totally secure for our two dogs and had a lovely seating area. The steps up to the front door were quite steep but manageable and inside was very cosy and warm. We would highly recommend it.

The animals also settled down very quickly and there is a wonderful walk along the River Dee was only two minutes from the house. The house was warm, lots of hot water and BT wifi that you can log onto. Well done and thank you.

About the location

Chester 10 miles; Llangollen 19 miles.

The village of Farndon nestles quietly near the River Dee, approximately 10 miles south of Chester. The village was an important place historically and has been a site of conflict and cultural exchange since the Angles settled in the area in the 8th century. The border moved numerous times during the following centuries, placing Farndon alternately in Wales and England. Today visitors will find splendid little shops, as well as welcoming pubs, ideal for relaxing in with friends and family. Why not visit the Roman city of Chester with its famous 'Rows', excellent shopping and celebrated zoo? For those who like walking and outdoor activities, Snowdonia National Park is only a couple of hours drive away and is ideal for days out. Farndon is the perfect base from which to enjoy this beautiful and exciting region.
