  • "Nice house in a beautiful valley, it had everything we needed for a weeks vacation."

The sofa in the living room is very uncomfortable but the chairs in the room and kitchen were comfortable enough. The house can be a bit dark on cloudy days but the kitchen light provides enough light

We stayed in March having booked an earlier date which we were unable to make due to a roof leak in our home. The owners kindly allowed us to move our booking which we very much appreciated. We immediately felt at home and relaxed. There is so much to explore in this beautiful area too. We would definitely like to return.

Another issue was the hot water was only warm couldn't get it hot at all. The first photo needs up dating as we were looking for a red door and the door had been painted green. Other than these issues the cottage was ok .But next time I shall look for a property with off road parking.

Good location if you enjoy walking , some lovely days out too , plenty of leaflets in the cottage if your stuck for anything to do. All instructions clear and well written , the only thing I’d like to add which is not a negative is we lit the gorgeous fire one evening, we didn’t know if we ought to clean it out on our departure, hence we left it , if that was the wrong thing to do we sincerely apologise x Kay , jan & Gerry the dog

The area is beautiful for walks with our dog, and the cottage itself is pretty and comfortable - we love being able to build a real fire! We sleep very well in the bed, and the kitchen has everything you need if you like to cook - the large oven and extra hobs are fantastic. Already looking to book our next stay.

  • "Nice cottage, very overgrown garden so no views."

Single beds very small for an adult. No parking apart from on side of road. Nice village but you had to drive everywhere, described as 5 miles to Llangollen but as it’s in a valley, pretty impossible to walk and very narrow roads to get to it. No info in cottage re local walks or places to eat etc. only two chairs on decking for a four person cottage.

Thank you for your feedback following your stay, and we are disappointed that some aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. The twin beds are a standard 2 ft 6 singles, with new high quality mattresses. The information about the area was removed as per Covid -19 guidance and we will consider whether we can take steps to re-instate this at this stage. Although the garden is abundant at this time of year, our gardener maintains it regularly. In this valley location, views are only seen from the decking area above the property, and we will extend the seating options there to accommodate 4 guests. There is also seating in the sunny front garden adjacent to the house. We are always available by phone/ email to guests before & during their stay should there be any matters that require discussion/ attention, and would like to thank you for choosing Tan y Rhos for your break. Offering us the chance to go in earlier was fantastic and really helped us to settle into our short break. Everything was as described, all worked easily and was comfortable and we and our two dogs loved our time. Breakfast on the decking, watching alpacas on one side, sheep on the other and buzzards overhead was a real joy, as was the open fire.. The poor phone signal was also a plus when you need a break from work.

  • "Glyn Ceiriog itself is a lovely village."

People were very friendly and proud and willing to share in their heritage and community. Tan y Ros Isa is on a old road out of the village and on a steep valley side. Its position means it is in the shade from mid afternoon onwards and roadside parking could sometimes be quite a distance away due to the popularity of the village with walkers and other visitors. This did not create a great problem to me and on the price I paid I thought the accomodation good value for money.

The cottage had absolutely everything we could have needed. Having done a few caravan holidays, we arrived with various household items (washing up liquid, toilet roll, cleaning supplies etc etc) but we needn’t have worried as they had thought of everything. The cottage is a good size and is a great base for exploring North Wales. The platform in the garden is fabulous! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage.

  • "The cottage was home from home, sadly the added homely touches like cushions, throws etc have had to be taken away (due to the current situation) but we took our own pillows and used them as cushions on the sofa."

The kitchen had everything we needed to cook with, washing machine, tumble dryer, dish washer and fabulous range looking oven/hob. Plenty of china, cutlery etc and plenty of room at the kitchen table. The lounge had a few books and DVD’s to borrow, but we were out and about visiting great local places that kept us very busy. The upstairs layout is very cute, chai's long in the main bedroom with long drapes for privacy - I loved it! I was dubious about the parking as there is none with the property - the road parking worked fine and we were never parked too far from the cottage. My favourite was the decking in the back garden - it is a little climb up the path but once up there the view is amazing. We sat up there every evening before dinner.

  • "A well equipped comfortable cottage just inside Wales."

The kitchen is well appointed with a new electric range cooker and all the other mod cons needed. Full instructions for use are also provided unlike some cottages. Main bedroom is large with a very comfortable bed, the galley nature of this was barely noticeable as there were just the two of us, although I can see that if you came with a family you would want to use the curtain provided to give some privacy. The bathroom is perfectly adequate if somewhat compact. The property was well cleaned and ready on our arrival. The sighting of the cottage was perfect for visiting Llangollen with it's steam railway and canal/aqueducts, both of which are recommended visits, Bala and its lake and railway, Chester with it's Roman history as well as Shrewsbury and Welshpool. The village stores locally and in Chirk are good as are the butchers in Llangollen and Chirk. Our only real criticism was the on road parking which although adequate in itself made it difficult to turn around without using nearby driveways which we were asked not to do. Other than that a good place to stay and one we could use again in the future.

The well-equipped kitchen and snug living room with its open fire were perfect for staying in, and with the pub only a short walk down the road, this was also an easy option for eating out. Sitting outside to enjoy coffee and soak up the morning sunshine was a lovely relaxing way to start the day. Although I usually prefer private parking, it was never an issue to park opposite the house which made loading and unloading very convenient. Just be aware of the traffic that passes immediately in front of, and very close to, the gate. Local walks and a trip to Llangollen were made even more enjoyable by the cooperative weather.

In the winter, it was cosy with the woodburner and comfortable for 4 adults. The property is suitable for dogs, and our little terrier was very happy there, but I would certainly recommend it to non-dog owners as well; the furnishings and carpets are clean, and there is no smell (so beloved to many dog owners) to suggest that dogs have ever lived there. This beautiful valley, described by Lloyd George as 'a little piece of heaven on earth’, offers a wealth of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, from walking and fishing to horse riding and cycling. Formerly the centre of the slate mining industry in the valley, Glyn Ceiriog is located three miles south of Llangollen and offers a good range of local amenities, including two village pubs, a Post Office containing tourist information and a cafe, a well-stocked village store and a community sports centre, offering a range of activities including bicycle hire, tennis, indoor bowls and table tennis. Nearby, you will find a wide array of attractions, with the dramatic World Heritage Site of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct well worth a visit. Set alongside the boulder-strewn River Dee, why not visit the popular town of Llangollen, famous for the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod? Offering a good range of pubs and restaurants, as well as many interesting shops, the town also boasts a dramatic mountain backdrop. Explore the Dee Valley by steam train or canal boat, or take an exhilarating walk up to Castell Dinas Brân, high above the town to enjoy the breathtaking view! The National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erddig are both within easy driving distance, while a day-long car trip can take you to visit six of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Enjoy a visit to the Old Hill Fort at Oswestry, scenic walking on Offa’s Dyke Path, along the crest of the Clwydian Hills, or access the national rail network to explore the Roman city of Chester, Shrewsbury and beyond.
