  • "We all loved our stay, it’s in a gorgeous location that feels secluded but is only 5 minutes away from everything you’ll need."

The hosts left us a bottle of Prosecco, chocolates and treats for the dogs accompanying us and it was a welcome surprise! Our only issues (and these are exceptionally minor), one of the upstairs bedrooms had a very uncomfortable mattress, it didn’t affect the weekend at all but it felt unfair as everyone else had very good nights sleep except for the couple in that room. There were also some basic kitchen items missing, such as a small frying pan for making eggs etc, spatulas/serving utensils, but overall I would recommend this place to anyone! Thank you again for a wonderful visit.

  • "The house and garden was big and spacious and was perfect for our large group."

The house was lovely but it feels as though it’s been neglected of Touch ups due to being up for Sale. There were a few issues that could of made the stay better. There seemed to be a wasp nest near to the kitchen/utility room, on arrival we were greeted by 4 crawling on the windows and the light fitting filled with dead ones. We were evicting wasps on a daily basis. There was only 1 spot light working in the kitchen making it quite dark, we asked the owners about spare bulbs and we’re contacted the next day and told If there was any they’d be in the cupboard (there was none). The family room downstairs has no bedding left out ready for the sofa bed despite our booking stating there was enough people to be using it. We had to dig around cupboards to find some. There was also a sufficient lack of storage for the family room. No chest of drawers for clothes, just 1 Small rail inside the storage cupboard that was already filled with curtains and old boxes. There’s a white box inside by the front door which the panel kept falling off as you tried to leave. Despite these things we did have a good holiday here.

  • "Absolutely amazing we went for a week to just chill and relax."

On arrival there was a bottle wine, chocolates and fresh cut flowers that was a really lovely thought. There was plenty of towels and really comfy beds. Our three small dogs loved the garden which is totally secure so no worries escaping. There is a wee bar which you are welcome to use you just replace anything you’ve had for the next people. Hale itself is a lovely village there is everything you need shops and two pubs we tried both for our evening meals rather than cooking and we loved the Wellington Arms the staff and customers were really friendly and the meals are lovely too, our little dogs enjoyed meeting new friends and were free to roam in the beer garden totally enclosed and safe for them. Over all a brilliant holiday and we hope to return so highly recommend this cottage x

  • "Underlea is a beautiful home in a convenient location for exploring Communication was great and it was very easy getting the keys."

We were greeted with a lovely bottle of bubbly, box of chocs and even some treats for the dogs. All bedrooms were a great size with comfortable beds. we had all the home comforts we needed, even a firepit outside: the kids loved toasting marshmallows on it. The garden is large and flat with a goal & football provided. The airport is close by and there is some noise, it wasn't that often and it stops late evening. There is Hale park 10 minutes away which was great for the dogs. Liverpool and Chester were only 20-40 minutes away so it is a perfect location. Thank you so much for a lovely break

  • "Great location, lovely village with lovely dog friendly pubs."

Cost us about £30 in a taxi into Liverpool city centre, Aircrafts do fly over the house but we absolutely loved seeing them they fly so low and did not bother Us due to them mainly flying over in day time. House was comfortable and ideal for 8 adults and 2 children. I would request more towels as didn’t feel there was enough and check out time to be later 10am is very early 11 would be much better. But would definitely return to this property, owner personally contacted us on arrival and departure which was a nice touch. Would definitely return.

  • "The holiday cottage was everything we hoped it would be after a long18 month wait."

We couldn’t have asked for better weather to enjoy the lovely spacious garden. Hale village is charming as are the people. The local pub, village shop and park are a short walk from the cottage, with supermarkets, takeaways a short drive away. We met so many lovely people, including neighbours, friends and family of the owners. Ian and Layla at the Childe of Hale pub couldn’t have been more hospitable, even holding the kitchen open for us when the men had a tyre blow out on the way back from ‘Anfield’ on our last night, the locals are lovely and food is delicious. The dogs even enjoyed meeting the local dogs on the visits. The holiday wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to Liverpool and the Albert Docks with a city and Beatles tour. All in all a perfect long awaited family holiday making lots of happy memories with our children and grandchildren.

  • "We had a lovely time at Underlea."

The house was absolutely beautiful and had everything we needed. It was warm, comfortable and spotless. We were pleasantly pleased with the weather so we could enjoy the garden and found a great place to walk the dogs “Pickering Pastures” and spent time walking along the estuary. We had a day at Chester and a visit to Liverpool. All in all Underlea was perfect and will look forward to returning in the future. The lovely owners were always available if needed.

The house is very close to the airport and the noise of the aircraft is quite intrusive when they pass over but luckily this does not take long!

  • "As a family of 9 across 4 generations, Underlea was perfect for our needs!"

It has a downstairs bedroom and bathroom which was an absolute godsend for our 98 year old. We had lots of space to move around in and having a separate living room and dining room really helped us have our own space when we needed it. The massive garden was perfect for our 4 dogs who played happily together. Whilst the planes flying to and from the nearby airport were a distraction to begin with, we soon got used to them and they didn’t stop us enjoying the garden in the sun. Our hosts were courteous and trusting which as a customer is something which goes a long way. We accidentally damaged the paintwork on one tile and Gilly was very supportive about it. I was amazed at the food and drink already present at Underlea and again, this spoke to the trusting nature of our gracious hosts. I have never seen such generosity from a host before and this was the icing on an already big cake. Totally recommended, would choose Underlea again in an instant!

  • "In the description it stated open fires in lounge and dining room, they had been replaced with electric fires, very disappointing."

Very sparse on equipment. No instruction books for appliances. It stated that the cottage sleeps ten, there was not enough crockery and cutlery for ten people and you would not get ten people around the table to eat and there were no extra chairs. We have stayed in other Sykes cottages of similar size that were much better equipped and at only half the cost of Underlea.

Thank you for your feedback. We are very sorry you were disappointed, unfortunately this year we were unable to secure holiday let insurance for the thatched cottage with open fires, as such they had to be replaced with electric. We will ask Sykes to update the description accordingly. We always aim to provide enough of everything and in our Welcome Pack do ask you to contact us if you need anything further, we have supplied numerous extra items on request on occasion and are happy to do so. If you do decide to return please let us know and we be happy to offer a discount to hopefully go some way to making amends. Property Owner

The cottage itself is in a fabulous spot, very picturesque and cosy with all home comforts. Gilly and Kinglsey are fabulous hosts and pulled out all the stops for us even though they had problem guests staying before we arrived. When we advised them that things were missing (taken by the previous guests) they ordered replacement goods and had them delivered directly from Next. Would highly recommend the cottage. Thank you
