  • "This property and the owners are amazing."

We wanted a quiet getaway to relax and enjoy and we got it. The open fire was great, the bed was so comfy and the surroundings peaceful, the hot tub a great bonus too. The fresh eggs from the chickens were also really nice. We went down into the field to see the teddy bear sheep and they were so friendly and cute. The owners were on hand and very quick to respond if we needed anything. Definitely recommend and we will be returning for another visit.

The cottage itself is well-equipped, with everything you need for your stay. Either relax in the hot tub under the stars or sit infront go the fire and watch a film. If you are wanting a quiet getaway this is for you. Walks from the cottage too are a must, especially to see their Teddy Bear sheep! Would love to go back here and explore the area more as there is so much to do. The Christmas decorations and treats on arrival topped it all off! Loved our stay here, thank you!

  • "A really enjoyable stay."

The property was excellent. It had everything you’d need. The welcome from Chris and Sonya was very helpful with the basket of fresh milk, eggs and chocolate treats much appreciated. Visited lots of beautiful places in the Shropshire Hills and surrounding area, including Clun Forest, Bishop’s Castle, Ludlow, The Clee Hills, Bridgnorth, Much Wenlock, Church Stretton, Carding Mill Valley and Stiperstones. Less than 15 minutes from Shrewsbury, I found lots of nice places to eat within a short drive. I’d recommend The Walrus and Osteria restaurants in Shrewsbury centre, and The Haughmond in Upton Magna. After a day exploring, the hot tub, situated in a private courtyard, was an amazing evening treat. The owner’s dogs are very friendly. Don’t forget to explore the grounds and go feed the Teddy Bear Sheep their favourite Rich Tea biscuits. I’d highly recommend a stay at Bank House Barn.

We couldn’t have been happier. I couldn’t recommend anywhere else for such a lovely weekend away. Everything was perfected to the finest detail, for example providing us with complimentary fresh milk & bath robes for the jacuzzi. The owners of the property were the most welcoming & caring people, checking up on us during our stay and even providing us with a lift into the town centre & giving us multiple recommendations of what to do during our stay. The location is perfect too. There’s a lovely public bridal path, taking you through fields, for a peaceful walk. While also being only a few miles from Shrewsbury centre.

  • "Not what we were expecting at all very disappointed."

The pictures were deciving there is no privacy at all. No view and couldn't even open the blinds. We booked this for a romantic getaway but felt like we were staying in somebody else's backyard the owner was pleasant but constantly messaged regarding the lights and electric usage in the property. After reading the reviews we thought we had found the perfect place to it was not to our liking at all.

Thankyou for you comments. This property is a sustainable property & we try very hard to keep energy usage to a minimum, as i explained on arrival the barn is completely off grid & runs on solar panels & batteries. I did request that you turn off lights if not in use because the batteries struggle when the weather isn’t great. We also have several notices in the property that kindly request that lights are turned off and this was the reason for my request. We found it frustrating to see all the upstairs lights on, all the downstairs lights & the outside lights on while you were not in the property. We are very committed to harness sustainability. We are sorry that you saw this as a negative. The energy for this property doesn’t cost us anything, but we wouldn’t be able to keep it completely off grid without the help of our guests Property Owner

The huge en-suite bedroom and bathroom are also luxurious and the bed large and very comfortable. The Hosts are lovely, nothing is too much trouble and they are always at hand, discreetly, if needed. The local shops are a very short drive away, as are the local pubs providing lovely food and wine/drinks. The drive into Shrewsbury is also easy and is where we spent a very happy New Years Eve shopping & celebrating. Taxi's to and from the accommodation are also easily available. We did lots of walks including the Stiperstones Circular which is not to be missed and had a great day out on the Severn Valley Railway Bridgnorth, which we highly recommend! We got the Freedom tickets and hopped on and off, discovering some lovely towns and villages along the Severn. The local pub was unfortunately not a great place to eat but we did find a lovely authentic Italian restaurant, La Laterna in the Vestry in Shrewsbury which we would highly recommend and a lovely old country pub called the Stable Inn near Minsterley which serves delicious home made food from 5pm. As for Bank House Barn we were a little disappointed. It felt unloved and tired round the edges with a lack of attention to detail. The court yard felt a bit neglected which was a shame as it could be such an asset to the property. We could only assume Bank House Barn is a work in progress. The property was clean and comfortable, there were just a few minor ‘nice touches’ that were missing: - complimentary toiletries in the bathroom - the price we paid was comparable with a boutique hotel where toiletries would have been provided. That said I appreciate that Covid guidelines may have prevented the provision of toiletries and luckily we brought our own anyway. So just an observation rather than a complaint. - The shower was very chintzy but not overly practical for ladies with long hair that does not need to be washed every day. It was difficult to shower effectively without hair getting wet. A separate shower wand which could be used instead of the overhead shower would be useful. Failing that, the provision of disposable shower caps would be a nice touch. Again just an idea, I managed for the few days I was there. -The bathroom bin did not have a bag/liner in it which I found strange and not overly hygienic so I put my own in.

  • "We stayed here as a couple wanting a relaxing, get away from it all weekend, we couldn’t have asked for more."

Firstly the location of the Cottage was perfect, it’s set in the grounds of the owners home and offers a multitude of walks from right outside your door, and much to our feet,IG hot we had the privilege of walking with sheep! Within a short driving distance is probably our most favourite Market Town, Shrewsbury with its amazing indoor Market and an abundance of independent shops and eateries. Closer to home there are quite a few pretty villages with pubs too, but during COVID restrictions, recommend booking. Most importantly the Cottage itself was beautifully appointed, modern, contemporary, and cleaned to a very high standard, it has all you’d need for a cosy night in. Every convenience to prepare a meal, a very nice coffee maker and wine fridge. It made for a perfect evening snuggled up next to the log burner, watching the smart TV or listening to the blue tooth music system. Alternatively, it’s a couple of steps from the door into the bubbling hot tub, completely private and set in a very prettily decorated outdoor area with an overhead pergola and lights, perfect even on a cold winter night, we relaxed in it to our hearts content. The host was exceptionally welcoming, the Cottage festively decorated, there was a delicious welcome pack, the bread was still warm and delicious! and the fire was lit. He was on hand with very helpful advice of local area, and for any queries we had, nothing was too much trouble. For us it was a 10/10 experience and if we are planning to return, it will be the first place we look for availability.

The beautiful village of Hanwood is situated in the county of Shropshire, just a few miles away from Shrewsbury town centre. The village is home to a Post Office/shop, country pub, a primary school, and a parish church. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty rests below Hanwood, with 802 square kilometers of stunning scenery extending to the border of wales, and opportunity to explore rare wildlife, difficult walking trails, and historic attractions. The towns of Shrewsbury and Telford are in reach, with Shrewsbury lying next to the River Severn, and Telford boasting a large selection of high street shops, bustling pubs, lively restaurants, and tasty takeaways.
