  • "Listing was accurate, it is a very old property and I have taken that into account."

The beds were comfortable but the lounge chairs and sofa have seen better days and weren’t so comfortable. The property was warm. Some general maintenance was required. The grass was overlong (tricky when you have dogs) and the bottom left hand oven had burnt on food on the base. Surprisingly there was little in the way of basic supplies. Only one roll of toilet paper for 2 bathrooms, only one dishwasher tablet and very little washing up liquid. I left a note to that effect for the housekeepers. If these items or not supplied, it would help to say so in the property details. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The area was quiet and close to local amenities.

Thank you for this feedback and I must apologize for the lack of supplies and the grass. We shall take steps to avoid a recurrence. it is intended to replace the lounge suite at the winter refurb. Property Owner

Although still building work next door we barely heard them and we spent time in the house with our autistic son when he wanted a quiet day in. Perfect location for train station and bus station so for those that don't drive its so good to still have the option to go further afield into Wales, Liverpool etc.

  • "We had a lovely holiday, but there was a number of things that we weren't happy with."

Firstly, there was renovations going on next door, which we should have been told about. The workers went on until 7pm, which made our evening unpleasant. Secondly, there was no where near enough glasses ( only 3 tumblers), not enough cutlery.

Thank you for this feedback which is really helpful. We were sadly unaware of the unreported tumbler breakages but replacements and additional cutlery have now been provided. I apologise sincerely for the disturbance from the works next door - had these been reported to us at the time I am sure we could have reduced the impacts. Property Owner

A real home from home, well equipped and the layout made us feel very welcome. Good location for walking into Chester and to the train station. Quiet setting where we watched a nesting bird feed their chicks every evening. As mentioned in the advert it does have uneven floors but even us oldies found it easy enough to access. Thank you for helping make our time on Chester a relaxing break. We will recommend you to anyone looking for accommodation in the area.

Thanks for this charming feedback - we'd love to have you back if you are in the area. Property Owner

Also excellent for dogs, so hard to find anywhere with secure outside space but also indoors where we all could relax. We loved the mix of old and new and it position second to none with easy walking into the city as well as greener dog walks. For us being able to just nip out for milk in 2 minutes is a novelty. Also liked the quiet of the house and garden, so unlikely with the proximity to roads

It makes us so happy to get encouragement like this. We'd love to have you back again if you are in this area Property Owner

  • "We were very happy with the cottage and location."

We did have an issue with the noise from the builders. They started work at 8.30am each morning with drilling, hammering and noise from them talking. The building supervisor was very courteous on the first day and spoke to us about the noise but said the agreement was the builders started at 8.30 and finished at 5pm. It was not such a relaxing break as we had hoped due to bring woken each morning to loud drilling and hammering. The builders did advise us they would be working there for some months. I did check the website but could not see a warning about this, but do correct me if I am wrong and it was listed. Otherwise a very pleasant cottage.

Thank you so much for this feedback and we are so sorry you had a problem with penetrating noise. I too have spoken to the builder who is apologetic. It is unfortunate that during your stay they were drilling into the party wall and fixing steel plates for their modifications - this should not happen again and all works including decorations and kitchen fixing should complete by the end of June - over 6 months later than anticipated. I am trusting that this is the last instance of major disruption but it is not under our control. Sorry again. Property Owner

The area around the house, Flookersbrook, was also beautiful. we loved our stay, it was a shame there was building work going on next door but that can't be helped. A couple of minor negatives, I found the sofas a bit old and saggy - I don't mind the style, but perhaps they aren't as comfortable as they once were. It was a shame there weren't enough consumables - toilet paper, dishwasher tablets - to last the week, and I didn't see anything for cleaning up messes - kitchen roll &c. We would definitely come back to this cottage again.

  • "We had a lovely week in this very comfortable home in a beautiful little cobbled street."

Hoole has a great little deli plus everything you need on your doorstep. Chester delighted us. The dog had a choice of the back courtyard or the front lawned garden. We had comfortable beds, a homely lounge and a dining room with comfortable dining chairs. Comfort for everyone! Although there were builders working in the house next door, they were extremely considerate and friendly, did not make any noise that we heard until well after we were up and about and did not work into the evening. They did not disturb us at all. The only suggestions we could make for improvements were that although the back sitting room was completely private, we would have preferred curtains on the patio doors just to complete the homely feel and it was a shame the light didn’t work in the back courtyard garden. We had no idea how to use the TV (Chromecast?) but we managed to plug the ordinary aerial back in and use it in the old-fashioned way - I guess that’s our age! Some serving dishes and a measuring jug would also have been useful. These were minor things though, and we were very happy with our stay here.

We had a minor issue that was sorted out swiftly when we let them know , only other issue I had was there was no dishwasher tablets and no t-towel so I did end up buying one (I didn’t tell them on my stay but they probably would of sorted something out) . If you get the good weather then I’d suggest having the french doors open they let in a lot of light . We have two children (14 & 11) and they both enjoyed their stay I would say that if you have young children that they’d have to be careful on the stairs. A peaceful place and great base for exploring Cheshire I’d also recommend the chippy round the corner

30was banging so the peaceful holiday I was looking forward to wasn't, good place to be in the centre of everwhere, it wasn't very clean, found a wet dirty mop just thrown under the stairs which stunk, I feel more tired now than when I went , won't be staying again, very unhappy

We are devastated and very sorry to hear you had an unhappy holiday, totally at odds with the experience of most guests, who find our period cottage charming.. Though specifically invited to share any concerns over cleanliness with our local manager, who would have addressed them immediately, you failed to do so leaving no option for timely redress. Also well positioned for Cheshire Oaks. The property has tons and tons of room with a large kitchen and range style cooker, front and back gardens for doggies, two toilets, a lovely bath (I may have enjoyed 3 on our stay) and a parking space. We feel truly blessed to have stayed in such a wonderful magical house. Every little thing was magic...the woodburner, the comfy beds, the sumptuous sofa!!!! The fantastic kitchen with every utensil imaginable. It couldn't have come at such a special time for us. I lived in Chester for many years and went to Chester College to study art. Many years later I finally settled in London after Uni. I came last week home to visit my family (my mum is very poorly) and its the first time I have hired a place to stay. It was such a blessing to have a place to yourself and not be a burden to the family. We completely forgot to fill in the visitor book...however I did the Sykes questionaire this morning. I would probably have filled in the whole book with how wonderful your place is. If I could buy a house right now...I would buy your house with everything in it and never leave it hahahaha. Best wishes to you and your family Charles, and thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

The double bed and seating in the lounge was fairy uncomfortable for us. The cleanliness let the property down e.g. not vacuumed in some areas, visibly dirty switches, walls and kitchen cupboards, dust and cobwebs on the light fittings. We complained to the owner and cleaners called us and then came in and cleaned the areas that we discussed over the phone. We were contacted by the cleaner and asked if ok we said yes as we didn't want anyone else coming in to the property due to the current situation. The property should have been re-inspected and had a thorough clean, as if these basic things are missed what else was there that we couldn't see. This caused stress/worry due to the current covid 19 situation and really spoilt what could have been a lovely break.

I am extremely sorry to hear your holiday was spoilt. The issues you raised to me by email were immediately addressed by my local manager to your apparent satisfaction, and she re-inspected the property. A full re-clean could have been conducted but would have required you to move out. Lessons have been learnt from these errors by our normally excellent cleaning contractor. Apologies again. About the location

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
