  • "Very well appointed, modern, comfortable dog friendly cottage."

Lovely peaceful setting yet close to local amenities. We particularly enjoyed visiting Colemere as it was very dog friendly with an attractive walk around the lake and through woods, and option of walking along the canal. The hosts were welcoming and responded quickly to any requests. Thanks for a lovely 2 week stay!

  • "This is a loverly cottage with everything you need for a holiday, very comfortable and clean the welcome pack was unexpected but fantastic, the owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful, the setting is peaceful, Ellesmere is a pretty market town in north Shropshire, they have good takeaways if you don’t feel like cooking, the mere is a must for a walk, and it is ideal for visiting other areas of Shropshire, follow the “what three words” app the owners send you and you will reach your destination no problem."

We hope to visit again in the future and will definitely see if one of the cottages are available, would highly recommend.

  • "Everything was lovely and clean, I would have liked to have a lamp each side of the double bed."

The element in the oven is warped and very slow to heat up, but it was still working, so I am thankful. A four slice toaster would be more practical too, but we had a lovely stay and just outside Ellesmere, would be nice to put info on local walks for those with dogs and some off lead places where possible. We ended up at Colemere for our early morning walk most days and went further afield for our later walk. We were looking for a country park without the “mere” so our dogs could be off lead and not interfere with nesting birds etc. All in all, a nice place to stay as a base to explore the area further.

  • "Cottage was lovely and amenities excellent only complaint is double bed mattress needs replacing as we didn’t have a good sleep any night due to mattress springs bulging into our bodies - had to put quilt from single beds on top of double mattress which did help slightly."

Did not put derogatory comment in their comment book but did leave a separate message about the bed

Sorry to hear you were not happy with the mattress, we were so surprised, as we have never had a complaint about it before. We always say to our guests, if you have a problem let us know ! If we had known we could have quite easily done something about it . Property Owner

  • "This is a beautiful tranquil location."

The proprietors had put a lot of thought into the needs of self catering customers. I would give this property and its location a 10 + +

  • "Although the weather was bad we still had a great time, ideally situated to get out and about."

The cottage was fully equipped and comfortable and would highly recommend. Struggled with phone signals but managed to work round that. Owner was on hand and made us feel very welcome including our two dogs.

  • "A very pleasant cottage in the Shropshire countryside near a small town with all the facilities you need."

I think the cottage would benefit if there was a feature fire as heating is controlled from owners home. The bed was low for elderly people. Otherwise well equipped.

  • "Lovely cottage, plenty of facilities."

Friendly non intrusive owners. Not far to Ellesmere, which is a nice friendly place. Perfect for dog walking. Would recommend.

  • "My only criticism would be that my wife is allergic to cats & dogs."

The bright sunlight did pick up some dog hair which unfortunately caused my wife some discomfort. Hence, unfortunately, in future we would not consider booking a cottage that took animals. Otherwise we have no complaint of the cottage.

  • "Really well presented cottage in a quiet location."

Only issue encountered was the satnav postcode didn't take you to the exact location, once you got your bearings it wasn't a problem though. Overall my family enjoyed the holiday.

About the location

Oswestry 8 miles; Shrewsbury 17 miles.

The pretty market town of Ellesmere with its Tudor, Georgian and Victorian buildings quietly nestles between the Shropshire Meres and the well-known Shropshire to Llangollen canal, in an area renowned as Shopshire's Lakeland. Steeped in history and originally fortified as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, this peaceful town boasts a lovely church with a 15th century roof and was home to Thomas Telford during the building of the canal network in the late 18th century. The town also boasts a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as an abundance of entertainment on and around the meres in the surrounding area. Stroll through Cremorne Gardens, go fishing or boating, take some time to explore Colemere Country Park with its wonderful wildlife and scenic walks, or walk along the canal. A lovely location offering something for everyone at any time of year.
