  • "A lovely cottage house situated near Snowdonia and a short walk away from the beautiful lake."

Very clean and cosy with a lot of much-needed amenities available. Parking was great just outside the house. The cooker and grill were a nightmare to deal with though compared to electric cookers and grills in our other trips in other areas in the country. This meant our cooking did not turn out well so we kept ordering out and eating out. Tongs were missing. Toaster was the best we’ve ever used. It would be nice to use a different scent to the house. The lock in the bathroom was terrible and it was difficult to unlock at times - it needs to be changed. Also, the house was very creaky making a lot of noise upstairs. The chalkboard wall was a fantastic idea. The extra lightbulb was handy. Showerhead was the best we’ve ever used. A very nice experience but cooker needs to be sorted - not for everyone. All amenities should be listed as we brought a few things which we didn’t need to. Thank you very much.

  • "Lovely week in Llanberis!"

The cottage is in a great location, stroll down the hill to the village centre to various shops and cafes. The lounge has bigger sofas than in the pictures which is great. Plenty of plates, cutlery, pots and pans etc in the kitchen. Beds were comfy and having a superking was great!!! All in all a great budget option for a week. A few negatives however. No welcome pack (which is usually expected in cottages nowadays), no visitors book so no handy list of recommendations. Cottage is very dark inside. All feels quite cheap, for example the duvet cover didnt stay on as most of the buttons broken at the bottom, towels were small, TV was a bit rubbish and sound quality bad, couldn't watch live TV. Our biggest issue was the garden. It was full of weeds, the concrete path was broken up with a hole big enough to easily trip over / kids stick foot down. There are wires from the lights hanging down under the raised decking which our dog got caught around his neck (luckily we were out with him). There is a large space under the decking easily accessible for dogs - this should be blocked off. Great cottage for location but certainly a budget option.

  • "Llanberis is a great base to explore Snowdonia and Elidir View is conveniently situated in the village."

We did find parking alongside the house rather challenging with our Citroen C4 as it was a very tight squeeze. We enjoyed using the log burner, which was just as well as the central heating didn't work for the first few days owing to low water pressure (we think). Water pressure was fine for other uses though, including the shower. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped and the beds were comfortable. We were super lucky with the weather and had a wonderful week.

  • "We arrived on a Friday night, to find the cottage (9 Yankee Street, Llanberis) absolutely freezing."

The thermostat was reading 11c. So we went to look at the boiler and found it had completely depressurised. My husband managed to repressurise the boiler, and we managed to get the heating to kick in. However, with it being an old stone cottage...it never got above 17degrees the whole time we were there. The first night, and morning were absolutely freezing. We also tried to get the dishwasher to work on our last night, but that wouldn't start either. We also mended the shower screen so that water didn't leak all over the floor! On returning home on the Monday I rang Sykes cottages who we had booked it through, although it was through their sister company Menai Cottages to state what had happened. We had also booked the cottage Thursday - Sunday but couldn't go up till the Friday due to the lockdown rules. We decided to not cancel the booking as we thought it was best that the cottage owner/sykes/menai cottages still earned some income rather than none at all. However, we were refused any refund/compensation for not being able to use the thrid night as apparently "three nights costs the same as two"... When I stated the issues we had, we were also told we should have reported it within 24hours - well the dishwasher we did. The boiler we didn't, as we managed to fix the issue, but that didn't solve the problem. We also didn't want to be disturbed 10pm at night, or have to wait in the next day for someone to come. Unless they were going to supply us with lots of extra electric heaters then the cottage was never going to get that warm from 11c! I would seriously not recommend booking this cottage - the owner clearly does not care that we at least still went up, rather than getting a full refund, or that we had to cope with a cold house, along with the other issues, or that we actually have informed him of an issue that needs to be fixed with the boiler! So no refund for the night we didn't stay, and no compensation. The owner does not care about the customer, and sykes/menai cottages also clearly only care about pleasing the owner.

  • "Charming cottage with period features, great location for exploring and walking."

Dead easy to walk into Llanberis for the pub or to pick up a takeaway. Loved the log burning fireplace, perfect for a chilly autumn evening. Bed was very comfortable. Cleanliness was not great (old onions in sink, suntanas (?) and crumbs under tv stand and sofa, hairs/splashes when toilet seat lifted up. Some of the kitchen gear was a bit tired. Would thoroughly recommend staying here as long as the cleanliness issues were rectified.

Only issue was the property wasn't cleaned when we arrived, but this was quickly resolved & Sykes were always helpful. Apart from that would definitely stay here again.

  • "Fabulous accommodation that exceeded our expectations, very friendly neighbours and great location for a base for visiting North Wales."

Comfy beds, large rooms and well equipped kitchen. Only downside was the small sofas in the lounge, which were a bit too cozy for three adults to comfortably relax on. Also a big no no to us were the cigarette butts in the garden which tbh were pretty gross in an otherwise great property. Would definitely recommend and hope to return at some point.

About the location

LLANBERIS

Caernarfon 7 miles; Bangor 10 miles; Betws-y-Coed 17 miles.

Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. In fact, Llanberis is something of a mecca for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales. The ascent can be made either by train via the Snowdon Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Each year, major racing events attract thousands to the area: The fast Snowdon Race to the summit, held in July every year, a triathlon known as the world's toughest, and The Snowdonia Marathon, held in October - a gruelling 26-mile course that starts and finishes in Llanberis, circumnavigating the Snowdon Massif. The area is also popular for mountain biking, open water swimming and stand up paddle boarding. Within Llanberis itself there are excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 7 miles from Llanberis on the coast is Caernarfon with its magnificent castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn, Plas Newydd and Bodnant Gardens.
