“A perfect base for exploring Snowdonia”

We had an excellent week in Meirionfa, a great cottage in Llanberis, perfectly situated for getting up Snowdon (our aim - and we managed it!), and also a number of other nearby walks and visits. The cottage is lovely - has everything we needed, comfortable beds, a lovely lounge/dining area, and a well-equipped kitchen. The laundry/drying room is very helpful. The only downside is the lack of parking outside, but we didn't find this too much of a problem and we managed to find local parking, it just meant walking a short distance (uphill). Buses to Pen Y Pass stop almost outside (just down the high street), and with so much to do nearby, we hardly used the car anyway.

The property

Lying at the foothills of Mount Snowdon in the popular town of Llanberis, you will find this beautifully appointed end-of-terrace cottage, Meirionfa.

Ideally situated within reaching distance of Snowdonia National Park and the pretty Llyn Padarn, this lovely holiday home offers the perfect setting for families and outdoor enthusiast wishing to explore the beautiful landscape of North Wales.

This comfortable and homely dwelling is tastefully finished to a high standard and boasts quirkiness through its fabulous rear extension, dormer conversion and irregular-shaped rooms, which add appeal, charm and character.

There are some nice touches throughout, and the owners pride themselves on ensuring all your needs are catered for.

Be welcomed into a delightful light and bright sitting room, incorporating a social dining area, inglenook fireplace with exposed stone and lintel, and a warming living-flame electric fire, where you enjoy a quiet night indoors.

The well-equipped kitchen has a lovely slate floor and contemporary units, with steps leading up to a useful utility room and cloakroom.

There are three well-appointed bedrooms on the first floor, including a double and two singles along with a good-sized family bathroom with a chic white suite.

A further bedroom rests on the second floor, home to a king-size bed.

With plenty of pretty walks leading from the doorstep, there are lots of lovely things to see on foot; a steady walk around Llyn Padarn, practically on your doorstep, will allow you to take in the beautiful scenery and for the more energetic, there are lots of walking tracks which lead into the surrounding mountains.

Why not hop on the train to the summit of Snowdon, the station being just a ten minute walk away, and enjoy a slow amble back into town whilst building up a thirst to enjoy a drink in one of the many pubs located in the town?

Close by, the Llanberis Lake Railway, National Slate Museum and Electric Mountain are all well worth a visit and Caernarfon, with its 13th century medieval and the majestic castle is only 7 miles away.

A little further afield at Blaenau Ffestiniog, you can enjoy Zipworld Titan, the longest 4-man zip wire in Europe, Bounce Below and Zip Caverns, an underground trampoline and zip wire ride, along with the magnificent slate caverns at Llechwedd.

This delightful cottage is a great base for exploring both coast and country at any time of the year.

About the location

LLANBERIS

Caernarfon 7 miles; Bangor 10 miles; Betws-y-Coed 17 miles.

Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. In fact, Llanberis is something of a mecca for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales. The ascent can be made either by train via the Snowdon Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Each year, major racing events attract thousands to the area: The fast Snowdon Race to the summit, held in July every year, a triathlon known as the world's toughest, and The Snowdonia Marathon, held in October - a gruelling 26-mile course that starts and finishes in Llanberis, circumnavigating the Snowdon Massif. The area is also popular for mountain biking, open water swimming and stand up paddle boarding. Within Llanberis itself there are excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 7 miles from Llanberis on the coast is Caernarfon with its magnificent castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn, Plas Newydd and Bodnant Gardens.
