  • "A good location with a view of the hills from the kitchen window and the rear deck."

Lovely comfortable beds and sofas and a clean kitchen. However the fuel for the stove was not included in the rental cost as advertised as guests were expected to replace what was used. Be sure to take toiletries as none were provided, and there was washing up liquid but no laundry tabs so you’d need to bring these yourself as well. The coffee machine had no instructions and the owner couldn’t tell us how to make it work unfortunately. It’d be handy to have instructions for the TV as well.

You can walk to the Llanberis path straight from the property. Cleaned to a high standard. Starting to look a little tired in the bathroom and outdoor area needs a little love. Great sized spacious lounge super comfy sofas. Decor is very nice touch. All round good property, welcoming host, would stay again.

We were worried that this wouldn't meet our needs but we were very pleasantly surprised and would definitely return. Extremely clean, very comfy beds and sofas. Love the views out back and the cosy log fire. Parking was fine and actually enjoyed not having a garden. It was an absolute joy taking the dogs out with mountains, a lake, woods and waterfalls right on your doorstep. All the local amenities are great too. So happy with our holiday!

  • "This is a lovely, cosy cottage in the heart of Llanberis with easy access to shops, eateries and attractions both nearby and further afield."

We love the area and all it has to offer and we found Tryfan an ideal base. The beds were comfortable, as were the sofas. The kitchen wasn't quite as clean and ordered as we might have hoped, but it seems to be that that is down to previous occupants not leaving it as they would like to find it. However, we left it spick and span and with a defrosted freezer! It is worth pointing out that the outside area is a tiny decked space and not an area where you can let your dogs out to do their business. However, we enjoyed the bench seat for lunch and used the washing line (some pegs would have been useful though!) and we took our dog 'round the block' when necessary, which worked out fine. We did encounter one issue during our stay but the owner was very responsive, the local handyman helpful and the problem was fixed during our stay. A great holiday!

  • "We were quite disappointed in the house and felt it was overpriced and dirty."

We actually started listing issues whilst there: - Kitchen was greasy and unclean on arrival. It looked like someone had just had a quick wipe over some time ago, not a proper clean and not recently. When we arrived there were crumbs on the counter, the table, and on top of the fridge. The baking tray had visible grease on it and I had to wash it before using it. - Bathroom was dusty, grubby outside of the sink/loo. There was mould on the tiles, cobwebs and grime around the window and sink area. The bathmat was covered in mould/mildew so couldn't be used. - Suspect the sitting room hadn't been thoroughly cleaned since Christmas as we moved the coffee table and found Christmas baubles and nuts underneath! - No loo roll (just a couple of sheets left from an old roll, not even enough for everyone in family to go to the loo on arrival, before our delivery came). - No handsoap in the kitchen, which was a surprise in a pandemic. Other properties we've rented during the pandemic have been spotlessly clean and provided plenty of soap and handgel. - The old slab of soap left in the bathroom had multiple public hairs attached. This was truly disgraceful. - Cupboards and fridge contained out of date food including 2 week out of date milk, eggs etc. - Plumbing issues in bathroom - leaking from back of sink and loo. Side of bath broken. The loo wasn't properly attached to the wall and the entire thing (not just the loo seat) lurched if you moved. I twisted my back reaching for the loo roll. The leaks are clearly an ongoing problem as someone is trying to catch the water with j-cloths stuffed around the pipes, but there's frequently a pool of (dirty?) water on the floor round the loo. The good points: Location right in middle of Llanberis. Parking on street was always possible even with a medium SUV and on a sunny bank holiday. Beds were comfortable. Bath towels were new. TV was good. Suggestions? A dishwasher would be useful, and is generally expected in properties at this price. They could move the washing machine to the spacious bathroom, and put a dishwasher in its place in the kitchen. Provide a second key - impossible for one of us to nap whilst the other went out. Provide a salad bowl and a water jug. Though we saw in the visitor book that someone suggested that ages ago and nothing has been done. Maybe replace the London prints with something a bit more local and rural? We've stayed with Menai holidays before and had booked assuming a certain level of quality, and we felt that standards had gone down considerably.

  • "A bit of a shame, as we had booked here in 2019 as well, and had planned on booking for 2021 already, but when me mentioned to the landlord that the cottage next door was a veritable building site, with work starting daily at 8."

30 am (mostly drilling, grinding, and breaking up concrete), he has not responded in any way that would reassure us that next year might be better, having already paid more this year than last. Compounding the issue was the fact that the roads outside and surrounding the cottage were also being worked on, so even if we tried to get out ahead of the drilling, we were stuck waiting for lorries to unload a couple of streets over for up to 40 mins. We won't be staying there again, although we will be back in Snowdonia next year for some winter season mountains.

Could be a few more utensils in the kitchen. Deeper dishes for soup and cereals would be a bonus the ones there are a bit shallow. Some measuring jugs, a whisk and some medium sized tumblers would also be nice. The beds were not terribly comfy for me personally as I have Arthritis and find a higher bed with a more supportive mattress more comfortable and easier to get in and out of. Beds with wooden slats under the mattress tend not to be as comfy as divans and also tend to creak a lot. Otherwise the house was lovely, very clean and comfy perfect location and we really enjoyed our holiday. The above are just little things that we noticed, nothing that stopped us having a great time.

The place was very clean and tidy. Loose skirting board in the bathroom and a loose tile in the kitchen. Creaky floorboards upstairs. Otherwise faultless and these are minor observations. • "The problem with this property were just lots of little things, adding up to a point where I now can't trust the standard of a property on the Sykes website."

    1. No shaver socket in the bathroom. To me this is a standard item in a bathroom, NOT an optional extra! 2. Although the place was generally clean, the kitchen items that we used needed cleaning. The things we didn't use still needed cleaning when we left. (We only cleaned what we intended to use. ) Examples : tea stains in the mugs, grease on the baking trays and inside the the oven was bad... 3. Bed mattress was too thin. I am olly 80 Kg, but I was basically sleeping on the bed slats. 4. Configuration was not really suitable for 4 adults. To get to the bathroom you had to go downstairs, through the lounge, and kitchen and rear porch. Maybe the bathroom and smaller room on first floor should be swapped. 4. There was a decked area out the back, BUT it was so small I don't think it counts as a patio /garden area! 5. Neighbours unfriendly, They wouldn't let us unload from their parking space!

  • "The house was comfortable, clean, in a great location and we had a very enjoyable holiday, despite the weather!"

The house had a problem with heating that we were aware just beforehand but seemed to have been commented on before by others. Despite that, no action had been taken. There were a few items missing that would have been useful to have-salad bowl, cleaning products etc-but otherwise it was well stocked and had everything we needed. Would recommend, but please fix the boiler!

  • "The heating did not work."

Freezing when we arrived and at times throughout. We had to unscrew a panel to reveal the switch and turn the boiler off and on again to make it work. The bathroom was dirty. No toilet brush or bath mat. They texted to say that a plumber was coming at seven in the evening and asked if that is ok. I replied no, as we would be having our dinner at that time. They did not reply. The plumber turned up as I was making the dinner. He did not fix it. We did not hear from the owners again. Very disappointed with the experience. I think you should investigate this so other customers have a better experience.

About the location

LLANBERIS

Caernarfon 7 miles; Bangor 10 miles; Betws-y-Coed 17 miles.

Dominated by the grandeur of the Snowdon Massif, Llanberis is flanked by two lakes, Llyn Padarn and Llyn Peris and is one of the most popular mountain tourist centres in the Snowdonia National Park. In fact, Llanberis is something of a mecca for walkers and climbers, being the starting point for the ascent of Snowdon - the highest mountain in England and Wales. The ascent can be made either by train via the Snowdon Mountain Railway, or on foot along one of the many routes to the summit. Each year, major racing events attract thousands to the area: The fast Snowdon Race to the summit, held in July every year, a triathlon known as the world's toughest, and The Snowdonia Marathon, held in October - a gruelling 26-mile course that starts and finishes in Llanberis, circumnavigating the Snowdon Massif. The area is also popular for mountain biking, open water swimming and stand up paddle boarding. Within Llanberis itself there are excellent places to eat and drink and a great choice of shopping. Just 7 miles from Llanberis on the coast is Caernarfon with its magnificent castle and town walls and close by are National Trust properties at Penrhyn, Plas Newydd and Bodnant Gardens.
