  • "The holiday cottage was relatively clean on the surface but we noticed a large pile of dog faeces next to the gate and decking which was very difficult to see to be fair, the pillows were flat old and poor quality especially in the double bedroom, the washing up brush was full of human hair and could not be used and the decking was unclean and slippy when wet."

The windows on the outside needed cleaning too. The cottage as a whole was satisfactory and quite comfortable with everything u need for a weeks break in the kitchen but the plates needed re washing as they were dirty and unclean

  • "We have just returned home from Orchard Lodge as a group of 6 including 2 children and 2 young dogs."

The below sums up our experience: Spacious lodge, Nice welcome binder with information on the lodge and local area, Nice amount of parking available on shared drive with us having two cars and the other accommodation having 2 with still plenty of room. Very well equipped with good kitchen supplies and family activities. TV with a Netflix account and on demand however no live tv, Brilliant set up for dogs with fully enclosed garden however an apple tree on left hand side of the lodge had a lot of fallen apples. With young dogs this wasn’t ideal, however we used a spare piece of fencing to block the gap near the hot tub which meant the dogs were not able to get to the apples (as poisonous to dogs). As a suggestion a permanent fence or gate to avoid this would be helpful. The living room area was carpeted and was a bit grubby, having wipe clean flooring in this area would be more hygienic. Bbq and outdoor furniture/decking wasn’t very clean and covered in bird poo. Dog poo in garden when we arrived. Large hole dug in garden. Wi-Fi is really temperamental and doesn’t reach well to back bedroom. I think this could be easily resolved with a Wi-Fi extender. However it also stopped working completely twice during our stay and can only be reset in the other holiday let. The hot tub is a massive bonus for the lodge. It was set to 39 when we arrived and keeps its heat extremely well. The lights are a nice touch and add to the atmosphere in the evening. We did have a few issues with the hot tub at one point but messaged the number provided and they quickly sent someone out to sort it. Overall we had a lovely time. The small things mentioned didn’t affect the holiday just some suggestions for future. We would recommend the lodge to anyone looking for a reasonably priced dog friendly lodge.

  • "On arrival checked barbecue, full of ashes, unusable."

Main gate really hard to open and shut. Cooker hood thick with grease, cooker light flickering, oven dirty, didn’t use. Doors had food or drink spills, thick dust under fire place, tree piece comfortable but really dirty, Lino in toilet all ups and bumps, main bathroom paper coming off the walls, couldn’t use vacuum smelt doggy when used first time. decking half stained, container left out in garden, blind in kitchen couldn’t pull down no pull cord, and stained, didn’t have Wi-Fi, all week, could ring unless going to Abersoch, no signal for wats app phone. Don’t think property was ready to be let with so many issues. Didn’t complain at the time didn’t want any confrontation, very disappointed for the money we paid, we know the owners only had the property for six months, but that’s no excuse for cleanliness. First time of using Sykes cottages four times we have been disappointed, have photographs of complaints if needed.

It is very concerning to receive this feedback. We encourage all clients to raise any issues in real time with the Local Manager as we want all clients to enjoy there holiday and consider returning again in the future. As the owners we where present at the adjacent property on the Sat/Sun/Mon doing maintenance work and where able to respond to the following: BBQ - previous clients had not emptied ashes, we immediately did that on the Saturday afternoon, and have now provided a metal ash can as clients understandably where concerned about disposing the ashes in the main plastic waste bin. WiFi - The property has been transferred to full fibre and the WiFi password unfortunately required updating in the information pack in the Lodge, we updated this on the Sunday morning and ensured you had access - (WiFi password was correct in the e-mailed welcome pack). We wished you had raised your other concerns at the time so that they could be swiftly resolved. Decking - Due to the rain during March and April, - the Gardener had only managed to complete 90% of the decking treatment with the front handrail still to be treated - the treatment has to be fully dry before any clients arrive and therefore this had placed another restriction on when the work could be completed. The property was shut for maintenance and deep clean in Jan 2023 and has been rented for just 23 nights since. We have removed the property from rental 20-27th May so that we can address the other issues you raise. Property Owner

  • "The Lodge was nice, the living room and dining area were nice."

However I think the rest of the lodge needs updating badly and it needs a major deep clean. There was a lot of dust and utensils and glasses weren’t spotless. The towels were very old. But regardless it was nice but that is all. I think there should have been some welcome instructions regarding the water and heating too. The hot tub was lovely.

Thanks Jade for the valuable feedback. We have since refreshed the Lodge and replaced all cutlery/pots and pans. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "This lodge has so much potential!"

The hot tub area with the lights is lovely, it comfortably sleeps 6 and has a lovely large living room area with a kitchen and dining area. The 2 toilets is also a huge bonus too, nice decking area and garden to use. The only thing is, the lodge was a little bit dirty! It was dusty, bits all over the floor, red/orange stains on some of the bedding. Some of the utensils were broken and the oven and dishwasher were quite old to use, the glasses and pans were dirty too. We were quite happy to wipe everything down but the only thing we could use were quarter of a pack of kitchen wipes which isn’t great when we’re cooking with raw meat. Check in time is 4 and check out was 9:30 which I know is needed to clean the lodge but it really only gave us 1 day there even though we’d paid for 2 nights & 3 days. It’s a nice area and a nice lodge but there’s definitely room for some improvement.

Thanks for the feedback Sophie. We have taken everything on board and refreshed the Lodge ahead of the upcoming season. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Whilst the location was very good for walking and for access to the local beaches and close to local amenities, beds were comfy and the accommodation was generally good there were a few issues."

We found an oven tray and plates with food stuff on in the cupboard, assume this was perhaps the previous occupant but would expect the cleaning team to check this on change over. The bathroom bins had not been emptied on our arrival and we found a collection of hair on two of the pillows on separate beds, not very good if they were just made and not changed from the previous occupants. The wooden structure above the hot tub also has a severe leak in several areas making a nice addition not an enjoyable experience if it was raining. Not nice having cold rain water drip on you whilst enjoying a relaxing dip in the tub. The decking to the front of the property wasn't cleared of leaves before our arrival (there was quite a build up) making the decking area extra slippery. A few small tweaks needed, perhaps a more thorough clean during change over a little tidy up out front and the hot tub roof being fixed.

Hi Matthew, As the new owners of the property, we thank you for your constructive comments. We will look to address these as soon as possible. We hope to welcome you back in the future for another stay. Property Owner

About the location

ABERSOCH

Pwllheli 6 miles.

The attractive harbour village of Abersoch is situated on the Llyn Peninsula in a region of Wales renowned for its outstanding scenery and varied walking. The village, situated between two glorious bays, is one of the most popular sailing venues in North Wales and important sailing regattas are held there throughout the summer months. Numerous shops cater for the tourist as well as pubs, restaurants and cafes. There are also opportunities for golfers as there is a course just outside the village and horse riding facilities are also available nearby. Watersports enthusiasts are also well catered for, particularly windsurfing, water skiing and dinghy sailing, not to mention renowned surfing at Port Neigwl (Hell’s Mouth). The long, sandy Abersoch Main Beach is probably the most popular beach in the area. There is a wonderful selection of beaches in the surrounding area of the Llyn Peninsula, including the beautiful and often quiet Porth Ceriad, with it's high cliffs, and sandy Porth Oer ("Whistling Sands"). Most of the coastline is owned by the National Trust and there are many remote bays, sandy beaches and cliffs, as well as wildlife havens like Bardsey Island to explore.
